Rumor is that Ponikarovsky traded to Pittsburgh for prospect Luca Caputi. If it's true, not sure I like it. I really liked the speed Caputi brought to the Pens when he has been called up. Defensive depth is something they really needed though. Coming into tonight's game, they were ranked 24th in team defense.

It's also being reported that Pittsburgh needs to clear cap space to make this happen, so look for either a third team to come on board as part of the trade or for the Pens to waive Martin Skoula.

Ryan Miller got a bigger ovation in Pittsburgh tonight than Crosby. Pretty cool.

^^^ i mainly liked luca caputi for his awesome name. skoula, who cares. as you pointed out, they need defense, and you can substitute any pro dman for skoula.

btw, i found a sidgasm that annoys even me. . . on the front page of nhl.com there's a link to last night's game "Is there anything this kid can't do? Watch as Sidney Crosby stickhandles from his knees."

what happened is sid brought the puck into the zone, dropped to his knees, stickhandled for a bit without being challenged, then passed it into a defender's leg, leading to a breakout the other way. oooookay.

based on that trade, a bag of practice pucks is a realistic return on GVAWard.

Anyone surprised that Washington hasn't gone after any defensemen yet? I guess they have plenty of confidence in their Norris trophy candidate backforward Mike Green.

Seriously though, their huge offensive output hides a lot of weaknesses on that team.

Well Jeff Schultz is a +37 and has shown that he can cover for Mike Green's complete lack of attempt to play defense. It is a pretty good pairing.
