i love the hold steady....new single is pretty good but sounds like 'jesse's girl'

There are several things in it that seem to refer to "Jesse's Girl"--beyond both songs being about a Jesse, the muted guitar riff leading into the explosive chorus definitely remind of "Jesse's Girl." I think it's more of an indirect reference than a direct one, though.

With the constant references Finn makes to various 80s bands, I have to think it's intentional on some level.

did MGMT forget that their new album was supposed to have some hooks on it? 43 minutes of nothing interesting

I like the new MGMT a lot. They are streaming it on their website. It sounds lush and thick and has great vocal and drum treatments all over it. total studio album.

Siberian Break is my fav track from my first listen. I'll be buying this on LP.

and while i think that funky image is interesting it is not album art worthy.

from what i understand they may have done it intentionally. i've heard they kind of pulled an eddie vedder and sort of resented the level of fame that OS brought them and deliberately didn't make an easily accessible record. they even turned down the chance to open for some pretty high profile acts because they're "not that kind of band," or some shit.

OH. WE. BACK.

Quote :
"In an interview with IFC about the movie, Brownstein dropped a couple of bombshells. One was that Sleater-Kinney might resume sometime in the not-too-distant future: "I think we will come back and revisit it. And hopefully that record will be sometime in the next five years." And the other was that she'd been working on a new music project with Sleater-Kinney/Quasi drummer Janet Weiss."

Haha...That new Roky Erickson with Okkervil River record is on what. Haven't heard it yet, but should be pretty cool. Maybe.

Those guys must've had a blast just hanging out with Erickson in the studio.

^, ^^ that's so damn weird, because I just came to post about that Roky Erickson/Okkervil River record. I cannot wait to check it out. Some of Erickson's stuff is genius...... some is shit.

The new Erykah Badu and Bill Callahan's live record are also out there.

I have a link for the Dr. Dog, but it's on some terrible site that won't download. If anyone has seen one on mediafire, if you could IM me, I would appreciate it.

I like that Roky Erickson with Okkervil Record the first time through.

It sounds like Howlin' Wolf singing lead for The Band and Phil Spector produced it.

May will be an insane month for new releases. Not that I like all these bands, but there's new albums come out from Broken Social Scene, LCD Soundsystem, The Hold Steady, The National, The Black Keys, Band of Horses, The New Pornographers, and The Dead Weather. In the same month!
