Yeah, I don't know how that's going to work. I have google voice integration enabled now, which transcribes all my VM's, and I use a gvoice app to listen to them (ala visual voicemail). Will be nice to cut those two apps out.
I'm just surprised how much better everything is. I honestly really enjoyed the phone with NoDo, but damn, Mango really is delivering. 7/12/2011 6:00:31 AM |

Posted this on a friends' wall, but it hadn't been brought up here yet: http://www.neowin.net/news/wp7?-mango-custom-ringtones-detail?ed
Also worth noting is that you can use http://audiko.net/ to create your ringtones from MP3s and/or take iPhone ringtones and use that to convert them to MP3 for WP7. 7/12/2011 9:23:43 AM |

to those with Mango builds...
can you do turn by turn voice directions and watch a movie at the same time with the new "multitasking"? I just really miss the days when my Windows Mobile phone or *sigh* Android would be able to read directions out loud while i had a netflix movie / whatever video on for a passenger in the car during road trips. 7/12/2011 9:32:41 AM |

^^ Sweet, it sounds like you'll be able to natively take a sound clip from Zune and use it as a ringtone.
Should have been in at release, but whatever. 7/12/2011 10:56:08 AM |

For now I'm still stuck with Blackberry, but eventually I'm going to be moving on to either WP7 or Android
Only things keeping me from embracing WP7 completely after I've seen what Mango can do are: 1) Lack of Swype (I saw some swype like keyboard has been released but I've read that it sucks) 2) Still no Flash 3) No NES/SNES emulators (Microsoft won't allow them) 4) Phones still pretty bland (hopefully Nokia has something cool up their sleeve) 7/13/2011 9:43:41 PM |

^Seriously. My fiance has the Evo 4G. Flash is fucking awful. Existing flash apps dont work for shit on mobile devices, and the only REAL need for flash on mobile was for youtube, which is now a moot point. 7/14/2011 5:20:23 PM |

So it seems like they're really pushing hard on the facebook integration with the contacts etc.--where does that leave those of us who don't want facebook to have anything to do with our phones? I hardly ever check my fb account and would prefer my mobile device not to be inundated with status updates and profile pictures. I'm presuming that this can be dealt with by simply not actively linking contacts to facebook--or does it attempt to do that automatically and it's something that you have turn off?
After a brief return to health, my Touch Pro 2 is in bad shape again and I'm trying to decide whether WP7 (HTC Arrive) or Android (Evo 4G or 3D) is a better choice for me. 7/15/2011 2:23:39 PM |

Yep. If you don't link to it, you don't link to it. No big deal.
If you want to get really isolated, you don't even technically have to link it to a Windows Live account either.
Quote : | "I hardly ever check my fb account and would prefer my mobile device not to be inundated with status updates and profile pictures." |
As it currently stands, unless you install the Facebook app and turn on push notifications, you'd never know someone sent you something on Facebook. What it will do, however, is try and link your phone contacts to your Facebook contacts and show the person's Facebook picture if you don't have one set for them on the phone. Also, it allows you to view their walls and your "Most Recent" feed when you go to the People hub. Not really sure what it shows if you don't link to Facebook, but probably not much of anything.
Like I said though, unless you install the Facebook app and turn on push notifications, Facebook isn't going to actively bug you about anything. It'll just be used as an additional data source for contacts.
Oh, and one more thing -- you can tell WP7 to not show people who are purely Facebook contacts in your People listing, so if that if you have me as a friend on Facebook, but not as a contact in your phone, I don't have to show up as a contact in your phone.

We have one of each in our household since we both got new phones in April. Fiance has been back to Sprint twice to get her EVO 4G reinstalled because of strange services quirks that horked the phone.
The 4G is a much more capable phone today, but it's also a LOT more fragile (in the software platform). If you're a power user and like to fiddle, go with the Android phone. If you want a phone that's drop-dead reliable, go for the Arrive.
That said, since I'm a WinPhone developer, I have the developer Mango beta on my HTC Arrive, and it frankly rivals everything that the EVO can do, and does everything with a lot more polish.
I'm not a big app power user and neither is the fiance, so I can't comment on the marketplace comparisons, but for out-of-box capabilities, the Arrive + Mango is a pretty awesome combo. I do wish like hell that Sprint offered a WP7 handset in the same form factor as the EVO. i never use the hardware keyboard on the Arrive. I do use the slider to pop the phone out of sleep though, it's a lot easier that finding the power button on top of the phone 7/15/2011 7:21:30 PM |

lol, my phone crashed and wiped the memory completely. Luckily all the contacts were sync'd to Live and the pictures loaded into Zune on my computer. Now I just need to setup my accounts again and re-download all the apps. Yay. 7/29/2011 9:23:24 AM |

If so, and if you have a Focus, try turning it off and on again. When my memory card was dying it would do that from time to time. 7/29/2011 1:44:16 PM |

works fine 95% of the time. font rendering is pretty disappointing on most sites in portrait mode, but i browse in landscape most of the time anyways and it's usually ok then.

I can't wait for Mango apps to be released that take advantage of the new "multitasking" capabilities. there's a bit to be desired still, and I understand this is still not finished, but overall, MS is doing a great job thus far giving us a phone OS that just works! 8/2/2011 8:31:46 AM |

got mine installed via this trick http://www.winrumors.com/how-to-force-official-windows-phone-7-5-mango-update-onto-your-device/
Quote : | "Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune client Click on Phone/Settings/Update. Allow the software to tell you whether an update is available. If so, skip this guide. If not continue to the next step. Click the update button again, and this time immediately disconnect your computer from the internet (some people have better luck waiting 1-2 seconds). Do this by pulling the Ethernet cable, disabling Wi-Fi and ensuring there is no Internet connection. After around 30 seconds or so you should receive a notification that an update is available. This is 7392, a post-NoDo security update. Connect your machine back to the internet and continue with the update process through the Zune client After 7392 is fully installed, you may receive a notification that another update is available. If so, install Mango now. If not, proceed to the next step. If the second update isn’t popping up on its own, repeat steps 3-5, causing the 7403 update to appear. Install 7403 After 7403 is installed, Zune should automatically start installing 7720, Mango. If it doesn’t happen automatically, force it using steps 3-5 once again Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” installed " |

Zoom in on Triangle Town Center in maps. Awesome. Speech command while phone is locked. Forward and back available without having to hit the volume button. Custom ringtones (wtf microsoft why did it take you a year) Games Hub shows you everything without having to launch that ghetto "Xbox Live Extras" app. Integrating Facebook and Messenger Chat into texts. "Multi-tasking" OneNote todo lists (awesome for grocery lists). Me hub ftw. Camera settings saved and click on screen to take picture options. Sharing videos finally. 10/5/2011 10:41:32 AM |

Yeah it is pretty neat, tried it out at lunch. At least you can just tap the screen anywhere and it will tell you what your next step is at any time. Also you can listen to music at the same time.
Guess Facebook integration needs some work still. Got a message 5 hours ago and nothing shows up in either my messaging tile or my notifications.
