Ok so I have a question, or some questions rather. I know what Champion's League is. The best teams from all around Europe and diff leagues (La Liga, Eng Prem, Serie A, etc) come together and play for the European Cup blah blah blah.

My question is when are the teams playing in the Champions League determined, and by what means? The Wikipedia article sort of made my head hurt.

I am especially confused because the Champion's League seems to be played along side all of the other national leagues (August-May?).

In my mind it would make sense for these leagues to determine the best teams, and then those teams move on to the Champion's League there after.

Sorry for the dumb questions, don't have a TV package that really lets me keep up and further comprehend.

you get into the next season's Champions League based on your current performance in your domestic league (i.e. - when Liverpool wins the English Premier League 2010-2011 season, they will be in the 2011-2012 Champions League )

the amount of teams from each domestic league to CL is based on some coefficient that factors that league's performance in CL in the past somehow, not sure on those - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient


Champions League is spread out over the entire year and games are during the week instead of the weekend when the domestic games are played

That run was fucking amazing. Not the highest level of skill. Just the determination and stamina were incredible though. He ran from his own half with the ball past 3 Inter defenders.
