Did anyone else get the letter that was sent to Thrasher fans?

If I can figure out how to post it in here... I will

Copy paste... wow! Good morning.

Quote :
"

May 31, 2011

Earlier today, we, along with our partners, signed an asset purchase agreement to sell the Atlanta Thrashers to True North Sports and Entertainment. If ratified by the NHL, Commissioner Bettman and the league's Board of Governors, this will result in the relocation of the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg, Canada beginning with the 2011-2012 season.

It's extremely disappointing to all of us that it became necessary after all other options were exhausted. We want to express my gratitude to you, the fans, for the years of dedication you have offered to the Atlanta Thrashers.

As many of you know, for some time we have been seeking a buyer for the team or a partner willing to join with us in continuing to fund the team. We hired an investment banking firm to seek out potential investors with the express goal of finding someone who would keep the team here in Atlanta. In recent months, we openly indicated a growing urgency to secure assistance in off-setting our operating losses in hopes that our public plea would produce investors which, to that point, had eluded us.

After extensive effort, nobody has come forward. As a result, we had no choice but to explore the investment option presented to us by the NHL in the form of True North Sports and Entertainment.

Relocation of the Thrashers is not the outcome that any of us ultimately wanted. We knew when we purchased the club in 2004, that professional sports teams are seldom, if ever, money-making investments but rather vital community assets. We believed in the overall impact that the team had on the sports landscape of Atlanta, and over the past seven years, invested a significant amount of money into what we felt was an integral piece of the greater metropolitan Atlanta area. We are truly grateful to have been a part of this city's professional hockey history, to have made an indelible impact on the community through our players' outreach, our organization's activities and our foundation's donations, and most of all, to have been a part of paying tribute to you, our fans, each and every time our team stepped on the ice.

Thank you for the opportunity to be entertained, thrilled and inspired alongside you by Atlanta Thrashers hockey. None of this would have been possible without your support.

Sincerely,

Bruce Levenson and Michael Gearon

I keep up with a bunch of the tweeters.. i.e. Bobby Mac... and he has never mentioned this? Seems so sudden... and is Brendan the best candidate? I mean, seems the league is trying to go soft. Brendan is not soft.

I got home during the 2nd intermission. Game was already at 4-0. But damn it has been fun to watch.

That Game misconduct on Boston a little while ago was bullshit.

WTF is the Flyers GM doing?

Jeff Carter is traded to Columbus for a 1st, 3rd and Jakub Voracek...

then an hour later:

Mike Richards traded to LA for Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds

This might be why they just trade Richards AND Carter. Who is Stamkos to play with if he goes to Philly, Giroux and Briere or ?????

I was expecting Carter to move, but the Richards thing was kind of a blindside. However, he's never been a good fit as a captain in Philly, and if they're going after Stamkos shit could get real.

And must be hanging out with milbury.

Also, attn: GGMon

I would like you to review the schedule and point out how many home-home back to backs Winnipeg and Carolina play against each other (none). then look at the travel structure, such as playing in min and wpg on consecutive nights, and then tell me with a straight face that this is the identical schedule they would have released if the thrashers were in Atlanta.

There were two schedules being built. Derp.

fuck all these front loaded deals. the next CBA needs to stop them

I'm actually OK with the front loaded deal structure... there's mutual benefit to the contract... the tough thing is the longevity. It could screw a team. I also like that possibility, so long as it's not mine

This is a shit ton of confidence they must have in Giroux, Bryzgalov, and JVR. I don't know if this just gutted the team or saved it.

They would be insane to keep the old logo as everyone in Winnipeg has merchandise - the need it to change to make $$$.

I'm not an top insider with league ties like you einstein's, I post what I read.

Winnipeg's returning NHL team will be called the Jets, sources say

By CHRIS JOHNSTON The Canadian Press
Fri, Jun 24 - 2:45 PM
MINNEAPOLIS — The Winnipeg Jets are back.

The second NHL team to call Manitoba home will carry the same name as the first one, multiple league sources confirmed to The Canadian Press.

A formal announcement about the name is expected just before the franchise makes the seventh overall pick at the draft Friday night.

A source indicated the team will use a new logo. But it looks like fans won't get to see the new sweater at the draft at the Xcel Energy Center. Instead, a generic jersey will be given to the team's first prospect.

``We'll be presenting the National Hockey League colours in black and grey,'' assistant general manager Craig Heisinger said Thursday.

"Dramatic realignment coming to NHL next season

ST. PAUL, MINN. -- For one season, the Winnipeg Jets will play in the Southeast Division. But their return to the NHL means serious realignment is coming to the league next season.

“There will be. I can guarantee you. It will be more dramatic,” an NHL executive told Sporting News on Saturday. “It will be realignment of the whole league. It will be a different format. I think it’ll please a lot of people.”

There are currently three Western Conference teams -- Detroit, Nashville and Columbus -- that would like to move East, and a restructuring of the NHL may satisfy that demand.

“The fact remains that there are three teams that should be in the East that are in the West,” the executive said. “The only way you can make everybody happy is by restructuring the whole thing. That’s what they’re working on.”

Detroit and Columbus play in cities located in the Eastern time zone and Nashville in the Central, so a move would theoretically increase TV ratings, as well help build geographic rivalries and cut down on travel costs.

The leading plan calls for the league to be divided into four divisions -- two with eight teams and two with seven teams. The NHL currently has six divisions -- the Northeast, Atlantic, Southeast, Central, Northwest and Pacific.

The plan is expected to be finalized during December's Board of Governors meeting.

“I’m just happy we’re discussing it. Maybe there’s a way for Detroit and Columbus to get in the East,” said Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson. “I’m glad we’re all open to it. We’ll see where it all goes.”

Howson said the Blue Jackets plan a proposal that would place Columbus in the Eastern Conference. He said he hopes the league would be open to the idea of 16 teams in one conference and 14 in the other.

“We’re going to work something up over the summer and see if it has any legs,” Howson said.

Carolina GM Jim Rutherford, who will have to travel to Winnipeg to play the new division-rival Jets, said it’s a good time for realignment.

“There’s some tinkering that could help realignment,” he said, before adding, “I’d like to play in a division with the weakest teams.”"
