"is that before or after transition?"
both; notice how I ended that post with [/trollstatistics]

IMO those who attempt suicide are more likely to see a need for transitioning, and post-transition the rate of attempted suicide goes down; the NTDS asked whether the respondent ever attempted suicide, while I imagine if it had also taken the usual route of asking about attempts in the past year the reported rate among those who have undergone transition would be much lower than among those who have not

also FTMs had an even lower attempted-suicide rate than the general population (0.48% vs. 0.6%), 9% of trans people who have attempted suicide are FTM even though there are about as many FTMs as MTFs, and about 3 out of 5 trans people in the sex trade have tried offing themselves, an even higher rate than those who have undergone transition (51%)

You should put the same amount of time and effort into losing weight and making yourself happy, then worry about your "identity".

this is the key part
Quote :
"or fully functional reproductively"
a hermaphrodite is an individual with functional gonads characteristic of both sexes; plants are often like this, but humans with intersex conditions are not

I'm currently hijacking a shitty connection somewhere because my own Internets are out, but I'm surprised that Keith Caputo is currently keeping her remarkably masculine given name

I mean I'm surprised she hasn't already thout up another one for going en femme

This fab fem only really fits in this thread if you take the position of the activist organizations that variance in gender expression is included per se~♥ https://www.youtube.com/user/GregoryGORGEOUS

The Operation That Can Ruin Your Life

Quote :
"In a world where equality between men and women was reality, transsexualism would not exist. The diagnosis of GD needs to be questioned and challenged. We live in a society that, on the whole, respects the human rights of others. Accepting a situation where the surgeon's knife and lifelong hormonal treatment are replacing the acceptance of difference is a scandal. Sex-change surgery is unnecessary mutilation. Using human rights laws to normalise trans-sexualism has resulted in a backward step in the feminist campaign for gender equality. Perhaps we should give up and become men."

http://www.standpointmag.co.uk/the-operation-that-can-ruin-your-life-features-november-09-julie-bindel-transsexuals?page=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0

That's just the last paragraph, but it's worth reading the whole article. It does seem like people end up going the SRS route, only to conform to the gender stereotype once the process is complete. What's the point?

that may seem true to someone as ignorant and uneducated on the subject as yourself but if you were to dig a little deeper and learn about real life trans people you would see that this statement is a joke. your perception of those people is simply what you have been presented in mainstream media. in reality trans people cover every inch of the gender spectrum of expression from the male and female side. young people especially.

I don't think you actually read the article. I don't pay much attention to mainstream media outlets, so you're wrong there.

I'm saying there's probably a solution for these individuals that doesn't involve creating a bunch of artificial organs, getting breast implants, facial reconstruction, etc. Your reaction is exactly how the author of the article said it would be, though.

That would involve changing the structures in their brains that make them sure of their gender; therapy and medication are now well-known to do jack shit and that's why WPATH recommends GCS and similar medical and surgical measures to transform the physical body to more closely correspond with the gender identity.

I wish that were the case.

I wish that people could love who they are and accept their bodies. Period.

However, I don't know how that will ever be the case, so I just embrace the diversity. And to be honest, I LOVE trannies.

i did read the article actually. it doesnt make any damn sense and there will always be an irrational response given to anything i say.

i conform to gender stereotypes im holding feminism back. i transition and dont conform to stereotypes then why cant i be happy as a man anyway? like guys... repressed homosexual. like girls... fetishist who went too far. its impossible to win. theres a stupid reason assigned to each example i just gave that was created by some cissexual person who has no idea what theyre talking about just because they were comfortable with the box they were born into.

well im not comfortable with my box and neither are a lot of other people. its not so much about conforming to a specific gender. its about breaking free from it and doing what feels comfortable. about being comfortable with my gender and my body physically because im getting closer every day and before i was not. youll probably never understand because youre content in your box.

Sometimes the brain just doesn't wire in a way that's in accordance with the rest of the body. So it's either spend a lifetime hating what you are or try to become something you can be comfortable in.

We have the technology.

I don't think anyone will know, that is an experience not many have, and obviously when it is your story it is much different. I am close to a few gay friends who had a hard time coming out, and my good friend who I knew since they were young and very confused and is a transexual who was disowned from their family and they attempted suicide once.. so I definitely feel for you and I am glad you made it!!!
