On a different topic, does anyone know if it's possible to abandon quests (on the PC)? I don't want to join the companions on one of my characters but I'm sick of seeing the quest in my log.

I'm pretty sure the only clans you can't join are the empire / stormcloaks depending on which you join. Bards mages champions whatever are all open. 99% sure you can join them all.

How realistic is it to think that I could make a character and kill pretty much anyone I see in the game. I'm guessing taking over an entire town is next to impossible if guards still spawn randomly and infinitely. 11/14/2011 6:43:21 PM |

I'm loving this Nightingale armor. So badass.
I've got a sneaky character and have had zero trouble with dragons. Of course, my 100% fire resistance (Dunmer + 50% boots) definitely helps. The only iffy dragon fight I've had was when a unique ice lich joined the party; I had to reload that one a couple times. 11/14/2011 7:17:20 PM |

Mine is 2H. What I'm running into is that I like to sneak up on enemies and snipe with my bow, then when they get close I switch to sword and shield. If I have bow on L and sword on R, then going from bow to sword leaves me with just my sword in hand. Makes sense of course, but sometimes when you switch weapons within the menus they game will auto-equip the off hand that you typically use with it.
Right now I just have sword R and shield L. Still have to do favorites to get my bow out, but generally sword and shield are more necessary on a quick key than anything else 11/14/2011 8:26:48 PM |

For the quest A Night To Remember, when you go to Misty Grove, don't try to go back, ever. I tried to get to the chest and lockbox under the stairs after the quest but I guess that misty grove bubble extends to down there, wound up stuck. There's no exit and you can't fast travel out.

^^^^^ Don't know what's wrong, if you equip your shield then bring your bow out it should bring the shield back out when you switch to sword, that's what it does for me. 11/14/2011 10:42:09 PM |

^I've noticed that the shield started to not come back automatically after I set a spell to the favorites and assigned it to the shield arm while I was holding the sword. I don't remember whether it started swapping between the bow and the sword + magic after that. So maybe it's a matter of reassigning the shield while you have the sword out and then it will work from that point on? 11/15/2011 7:44:15 AM |

This is a question for the Smiths.
So far I've leveled my Smithing to 49 or 50, can't remember which. I can make Eleven and Dwarven Armor all of which can be improved to Exquisite. (which is awesome when you find dwarven ruins. Load up on all the dwarven ingot and metal there, smelt down what needs be smelted. make tons of armor, sell that shit or give to your follower)
Anyway, I can improve my armor to exquistie, however, my assassins guild armor I got last night, I can only improve to Superior. Do I need to add perks to smithing to be able to make this Exquisite?
Currently wearing all enchanted Elven Armor, but the perks from the assassins armor are awesome for my character build 11/15/2011 9:25:49 AM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
I'm not sure but it's possible you won't ever be able to improve that armor as high as you would crafted armor.
If you look at the perks it says something like "craft elven armor and improve them twice as much" so the perk allows you to improve elven armor more than you otherwise would based on your skill points. Since I'm assuming that the assassin's armor is unique and there's no perk for it you probably won't be able to get it as high as elven armor on the improvement scale.
You'll get it up to Exquisite but by then your normal armor will be Flawless, and by the time it's Flawless your normal armor will be Epic.

^thanks for the info. I really love the perks it gives me for backstabbing (mine is now 30x effective) and archery, but my guilded Elven armor has a rating of 98 and I can only get the Assassins armor to 72....hmmm 11/15/2011 9:46:54 AM |

Is Elven armor light? Is it worth crafting when I plan on going heavy armor all the way? I'm guessing steel -> dwarven -> ebony -> dragon or something similar, and bypassing elven and glass.
Only benefit I might see is that I could craft it and sell it and possibly get moresmithing XP than leather/steel grinding, but I imagine elven armor uses special metals and it would waste perk points in the end

Elven is a different branch entirely. You don't have to take elven crafting.
Heavy armor goes iron - steel - dwarven - orcish - ebony - daedric - dragon bone Light armor goes hide - leather - elven - scale - glass - dragon scale
Also scale is in a perk called "advanced armors" that although it's in the light armor branch lets you make Plate armor, which is steel heavy armor that looks late medieval and is between dwarven and orcish in stats. 11/15/2011 10:28:07 AM |

I just hit 100 smithing, and Daedric is actually better than Dragon Bone.
Dragon Bone is slightly easier to get since the dragons drop a few bones/scales (killed 4 dragons so far), and the Daedric armor requires the daedric hearts which are more rare.11/15/2011 10:42:56 AM |

Tonight I realized that my settings were on Master the whole time and I'm not sure why. I don't think that's default but regardless I'm rerolling from heavy 2her to pure double casting mage. Having trouble with some stuff though. A two handed hadouken blast is pretty hard to pull off on console. I'll either get it effortlessly throughout a fight or it never happens. My question for the Destruction magic user:
Fire Frost or Shock?
I get the uses of each but the tree is set up so that you can get the special tier 3 bonus at 50 60 and 70 for each but a damage bonus for any at 30 (and I'm assuming 2/2 at 50). Disintegrating my enemies sounds swell but I cant even get there till 70 destruction level. Fire sounds like the way to go for now since it hurts both stam and magica mobs equally but I don't want to get up to 70 destruction and find out how shock is the best way to go and have lingering points in Fire doing jack. Should you spend points elsewhere till you get there or would you just go with fire or ice and have two schools to work off of? Other options would be light armor and conjuration or some other school of magic. WORDS! 11/16/2011 1:21:14 AM |

I'm enjoying the magicing much more than the smash facing. I'll assume I would feel equally great about going the stealth 8x crit route but there is something about flame thrower hands and deep freezes that makes the game great for me.
One bug (maybe?) that I found or leveling Conjuration was that you can have a novice Summon Familiar (ghost wolf pet thing) and novice Summon Spectral Sword (or something) to get a magic 1 hander out. Kill your own summon wolf pet guy and you level both conjuration and 1 hander really fast. Went from 20 to 30 in both in about 15 minutes just summoning the wolf (summon familiar novice) with the left hand and killing it with the summon sword right hand. 11/16/2011 2:28:16 AM |
