I'd be willing to bet some intense calf and hamstring stretching and foam rolling would do the trick

well i don't run much. i ran 3-4 miles 3 times this week. it hurts the most when i'm going down the stairs, which i find weird. it feels best when it's straightened out. bending hurts. no creaky feeling or swelling. just like a stab of pain.

its back to being minimal discomfort as i've been trying to rest it all day.

can you localize the pain? like behind/inside/outside your knee, under your patella, etc?

yeah I definitely wouldn't put this as any type of serious knee injury. Just some muscle related grief that needs ice and rest

Foam rolling should help. I also believe that stretching and sports massage will reverse a lot of workout-related discomfort.

I just want to brag that I'm at the lowest weight I've been since I stopped teaching fitness classes full-time (in 2008)

I was 190lbs when I first posted in the other beach body thread (200 was my heaviest). Now I'm 170 and hoping to get down to 160. I haven't checked my body fat in a long time, but I'd really like to know what that's at now. I'll try to take pics later and post them.

Buuuuuuuuut unfortunately a broken rib is keeping me from doing anything that makes me breathe heavy or lift things. So I'm just trying to control my diet better for now - which is the hardest part for me because of my crazy ridiculous sweet tooth.

knocked out a round of insanity, although I think im gonna do it alternating with other stuff, there are some cardio machines at my complex, and I have dumbbells, a pullup bar, and push up things

Also since I'm fascinated with the potential of kinect workout games, I bought EA Sports Active 2, with heart monitor, for half price because it seemed to have the most stats, features, and actual intensity in it's custom workouts.

Linda I am SO happy for you! Congrats! (but boo on the broken rib)

I ran my 8 miles today for my half marathon training. 2 things - 1) I will never wearing my running shorts again for a long run - holy schafing hell. 2) I started trying out the gels to help keep me going. Love the nuun tablets you throw in your water for electrolyte replacement and I liked the honey gel I tried. I have some other gels to try out to see which I like best/what works for me.

Also - long story short (since I'm on my iPhone) but I mentioned how my endocrinologist determined I had pseudo-Cushings from my birth control. I made some calls, got my birth control switched back to the name brand for 2 months to try out and I'm happy to report I am starting to feel much better. My weight is creeping down, I'm sleeping again, and I haven't had any weird break outs lately. Yay. Fingers crossed this is it because I'm ready to not be tied down to doctor's visits for a while.

^question: how did the doctor confirm it was from the bc?
i havea friend who has cushings and she's not sure from what.
(i maintain its from her lack of sleep and just being stressed all the time)

and also. i have some pretty nifty news. well kinda
ive lost quite a bit of fat, unfortunately a little muscle went along with it.
but you know how everyone say s that the last place you lose it is your stomach/abs (at least thats what others have told me)
welll......not for me. ive lost quite a bit in my stomach and arms but my thighs and butt
they're about the same. it's a blessing and a curse really.

I had 6 tests run total over 4 months. The first four (a mixture of different saliva, blood, and urine) tests came back abnormal/positive for Cushings. At this point the endocrinologist diagnosed me with Cushings and we pushed forward with 5 day urine collection test with daily blood work while taking dexamethasone at different levels. The results came back normal for each day which surprised my doctor so he sent me onto a Cushings specialist at Duke to see what he thought. I did a night and morning urine collection and dropped it off at the lab. Those results ended up normal as well.

So I started thinking - why did the first four come back out of the park abnormal but the last two showed nothing wrong. Well I'm guessing with the fifth test, the dexamethasone was enough for my body to stop producing cortisol on it's own and let the meds balance me out. Because after I got used to the medicine, I felt great but the minute I stopped taking it I went trough very heavy withdrawal symptoms because I think my body was all out of whack and trying to create as much cortisol as possible.

So then I thought about the sixth and how I was off my birth control that. It got me to thinking about how every other test done, it was on a week I was on birth control. Both ny doctors had mentioned to me how birth control can give you pseudo-Cushings where basically your body is producing too much cortisol because of the birth control and you get the symptoms of Cushings but there is no tumor.

I also was having problems with my birth control because the one I was taking got bought out by another company and they formatted it. I became an insomniac and started to have weird breakouts.

When I went back to my endocrinologist I explained to him all of this

(sorry my phone whacked out. Continuing)

So basically I talked to my doctor and told him how I started to think back to when a lot of my wright gaining problems started because I used to never have this problem. A lot of it started when I switched from name brand to generic. My doctor suggested I call my OBGYN and talk to them about switching back to the name brand for a couple of months and see what happens.

So I did and I feel much better. Regarding your friend - did they diagnose her with Cushings that has a tumor or without? Because there's syndrome and disease.

Figuring out it was my birth control was a lot of personal research and then talking to my doctor. Now we're just hoping and waiting.

not sure. but theyre not worrying about it being a tumor so i guess its not. (im actually taking a whole semester on endocrinology so i know the difference )

but theres a lot more to her story than one day she just started gaining weight out of the blue. shes very stressed. very.

Joie I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Stress can definitely cause cortisol levels to spike enough to mimic Cushings. I never did the research to figure out how Cushings can start - all my endocrinologist said is that a lot of times Cushings occurs when there is a tumor on either the pituitary or adrenal gland. We were about to start searching for a tumor when my results started to flip.

I'm not an endocrinologist but I find it odd that your friend's doctor doesn't want to look for a tumor. Cushings can be fatal if not treated properly.

Also mine wasn't just weight gain out of the blue. Weight gain was defintely a big indicator but I also was so exhausted that I couldn't shower by 3pm everyday. I would sweat compulsively for no reason. I would break down into hysterics over really trivial stuff. These were all issues I didn't have prior.

Ocella. I think I'm one of those "one in 100,000" chances that some chemical didn't mesh with the body. I have a lot of friends who take Ocella with no problems.

I have a new goal to get my pull up max higher to ensure that I always get 20 on the PFT. I am going to do 100 pull ups a day in as little sets as possible. I am splitting it 50 over hand and 50 under hand.

So, basically, I plan on doing less than 10 sets per day, with max effort on each set. I think I am going to do overhand in the mornings and under hand in the evenings.

Isn't it similar to the 100 push up per day challenge?

I mean I will probably have to work up to 100 per day, every day. I might have to do two days in a row and rest a day, etc.

instead of running im deciding to do insanity and play basketball for my cardio...i just HATE running for some reason, its so boring to me.

muscles are VERY sore after the first week back from 2 months off...but its a good feeling. the worst is my elbows, where i cant bend them from the bicep workouts.

So I found this in the 2010 thread from the end of august. I just remeasured myself and must say even though my weight hasn't really changed (from everything going on) but this alone pysches me up.

Waist: were 29 now 28.5 inches
arms: were 11 now 11 inches
Hips: were 37 now 35 inches
Butt: were 40 now 37 inches
Thigh: were 23.5 now 23 inches

I'm psyched about how many inches and how many pounds I've lost since the start of the first thread, too!

June 01, 2010 --> Jan. 01, 2011

weight was 217 lbs., now 192 lbs.
chest was 45", now 44"
hips were 45", now 42"
L. Thigh was 26.25", now 25"
R. Thigh was 26.5", now 25"
waist was 42.75", now 37.25"

while this may not be where I want to be just yet, it's definitely a huge improvement from where I was heading

I can't wait to reach my goals, they are literally in sight now!

Thanks TWW!

So this morning I did intervals b/c I'm trying to increase my running speed. Holy shit that kicked my ass.

I did 4 intervals of 400m each, with a 400m jog b/n each interval.

1. 1:35
2. 1:34
3. 1:40 <-- started feeling it here lol.
4. 1:41 <-- was pushing it, but had to go around a car sitting at an entrance.

(since I couldn't find a track, had to do it on the sidewalk/road)

As far as fitness goes, I can see that I'm getting more fit, but I think it might take a while.

Oh, and forgot to mention, during my annual physical recently I informed my dr of my training schedule, he suggested that I change it to running/cardio in the am and p90x in the pm - so I have.

100 chinups a day isn't going to destroy you, if you can already do 15-20 max set. If 100 pushups a day destroys you, you've got problems, brah - unless you're a woman, then it's legit.

Saturday:

3x34 pushups, 1 min rest
3x38 situps, 1 min rest
1x16 close arm pushups
1x16 wide arm pushups
8x16 crunches, varying positions, no rest
1x28 turn and bounce
1x34 4-count flutter kicks
1x34 4-count leg spreaders
30 chin-ups, at own pace

Sunday:

Nothing special, just an upper body and arm weight lifting workout, with a 20 minute run at the end at a 6:30 pace.

Tuesday:

3 iterations, as a group of 5 (so divide everything by 5 and you get how many we did):

1/3 mile run (no division on this one)
80 box jumps
20 wall hurdles
8 monkey bar traverses, about 25m each
60 pullups
200 situps
8 rope climbs

Now, time for FTX. BRB LOL.

I never said I'd have a problem doing 100 pushups a day, brah. I was talking about easing in to 100 pull ups a day.

I be more hard pressed to do 100 correct pushups in one set, though.

As it stands currently, after yesterday of actually doing 50 inboard grip and 50 outboard grip pullups, I think I am going to only do 50 weighted today and 100 tomorrow and 50 weighted Thursday and 100 Friday and then rest the weekend.

I suppose my goal with this is to try and do 100 pullups five consecutive days in a row without injury in as little sets as possible. And to have 2 or 3 days of weighted pull ups and rest on the weekends.

This isn't to rip out my back, mind you, it is strictly PFT preparation. My goal is to be able to do 30+ USMC regulation pull ups for both grips in a single set.
