good for Russell. Who knows how the whole thing played out here with him and TOB, but he deserves an opportunity to play some meaningful football at the highest level, try to win a Big 10 or BCS championship, and get more hype to get drafted.

but yeah i'm crying emo tears tonight

i think i'll hold judgment until we... idk.. play.

let me clarify. it doesn't bother me at all that russell's doing well. it wouldn't really bother me much if he didn't either. what does bug me, is the little girl attitudes people on this site are carrying around with them as though we've already lost the entire season because one player left.

Big 10 is not the highest level. And he had the opportunity to play some meaningful football, instead, we lost to fucking Maryland.

I am rooting for him though.

Wisconsin played in the Rose Bowl last year.

They may have another BCS game this year.

Russell Wilson didn't let Torrey Smith catch 4 (FOUR!) touchdowns that day. He did however help us go up 14-0 on Maryland.

I don't know how my boy RW did it. Somehow he joined a team in the fall and he looks better than Philip Rivers. That Wisconsin coach was a fucking dumbass for waiting until the fall to decide on his starting QB, but I guess his risk evaluation paid off.

It doesn't bug me that Wilson's wearing a different shade of red. He graduated and can go wherever he wants. I wish him well and I'm glad he's getting the national hype I've felt he deserves.

I just wish we didn't have to put up with ESPN employees constantly rubbing it in all season. Doing that puts unnecessary extra pressure on Glennon.

It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about a game against UNLV. We're sitting here, and you guys are shitting bricks, and we're talking about a game against UNLV. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about UNLV, not Michigan State, not Nebraska, not Ohio State, but we're talking about UNLV. Not the game that is against elite talent that has been recruited at the highest levels of Division 1 football but we're talking about UNLV man. How silly is that? ... Now I know that Russell Wilson was supposed to lead by example by choosing team over self but he shoved that aside like it don't mean anything. He knew it's important, he honestly did but we're talking about the chance to hit .200 in single A. We're talking about UNLV man. We're talking about UNLV. We're talking about UNLV. We're not talking about the B1G. We're talking about UNLV. When you come to the arena, and you see him play, you've seen him play right, you've seen him give everything he's got (except of course commitment to his team in the offseason), but we're talking about UNLV right now. ... Hey I hear you, it's funny to me too, hey it's strange to me too but we're talking about UNLV man, we're not even talking about Oregon State or Illinois, when it actually matters, we're talking about UNLV ... How the hell can you shit bricks when it's a game against UNLV?

^^^^ he is probably the best and most recognizable player to take advantage of that transfer rule... EVER.

There was no way ESPN wasnt going to be on this like flies on shit from the start... And no matter our opinion TOBs opinion IS controversial and should be examined by the national media.

I am sorry I don't get it. Russell was good last night against UNLV who aren't exactly the cream of the crop in college football, you would think Russell Wilson single handedly beat UNLV.

I wish him the best, but ESPN is making it seem like we told him to take a hike, he decided that he wanted to be a pro baseball player never making it above AA based on what I have seen from him. They constantly harped on the fact that we sent him packing, this is going to hurt recruiting, put even more pressure on Glennon, and probably cost O'Brien his job unless he gets us to another bowl game.

^and it should cost him his job if we don't go to a bowl. i understand it was a difficult situation all around, but you don't make decisions like that unless you are confident that your remaining qb will deliver.

(if he's awesome, and the defense sucks so bad they cost us the season though, then of course tob should stay)

you do remember that when TOB made his decision, there was every possibility mr. looking-out-for-number-one was never going to come back to college football, right? he could not count on mr. myself-before-team to deliver because he couldn't count on him actually ever playing again

Good lord, why do we harp on the fact we don't have him?

Russell was told he'd have to fight for the starting gig. He didn't like that. They parted ways. DONE.

I find it refreshing having 2 teams to root for this year in college. Usually it's just state and ABC.

so much revisionist history already in the russell wilson saga that in five years it'll read:

MEAN OLD TOM O'BRIEN HIT RUSSELL WILSON IN THE FACE AND CALLED HIM RACIST THINGS. SAID HE WASN'T WELCOME DOWN HERE IN THE SOUTH. TOLD HIM HE BEST GO UP NORTH. SO WILSON DID, AND WHEN HE DID, HE BECAME A BADGER. AND MEAN OLD TOM O'BRIEN? HE WON'T NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN.

Last night was painful, but it's really pretty simple: One year of maybe having RW < Two years of definitely having MG.

I just pray Glennon doesn't let all the pressure get to him. Seems like a heady guy, but man ... it's going to be rough if Wiscy is rolling and we're struggling.

Really? Because I always cheer for our former players when I see them on TV. Rivers, Cotchery, Williams, etc.

I'll cheer for Wisconsin as long as they have Wilson in a starting role.

I refuse to be bitter towards a player who got his degree and decided to split.

Wilson skipped out on spring ball to be all about him. when he sucked, he asked to come back. TOB told him sure, you can come as the backup. Wilson didn't understand how someone wasn't kowtowing to him. so he quit a second time

same thing. wilson was told he wouldn't start. But cmon. If he came back and sat the bench, TOB would be fired if state didn't make the ACC championship. That and no QBs would ever want to come here again.

It just didn't work out, no harm in calling the guy names. He seems like a driven guy who had an unresolved passion for football.

I'd have transferred too. Good for him. I still appreciate what he did while here, he played hard and moved on. I'm not going out of my way to cheer for Wisc. but I hope he does well. If it turns out that Glennon gives us 2 very solid years then it was the right move. If Glennon is a bust this is going to be a long year because it will be non stop about how great Wilson is doing and how he could have been here and that will just get old fast.

Any press is good press?

Hopefully when Wisconsin get into the more difficult part of their schedule (and maybe picks up some losses?) and there are 20+ other important games to talk about each week then the ESPN echo will die down a little bit.

Isn't there some sort of idiom that mirrors your comment. A bird in hand is worth two... something something bush.

Quote :
"That and no QBs would ever want to come here again."

As opposed to our current situation. Here's the pitch. Come be a QB at NCSU. Who knows, if you beast it up we just might replace you with your unproven backup and you can go on to play for a real football program somewhere else.

Also: these comments are made in jest, lest someone take them seriously.

You might be able to get on his case for leaving his teammates, but not the school.

He graduated, that's why they're here in the first place. Whatever he decides to do after that is his own decision.

i'll explain this as many times as it takes: if a guy isn't even committed to playing football at all, he cannot be the #1 quarterback on your depth chart at any point in the offseason, that's just bad coaching.

One of the many articles discussing RW's success last night and bright prospects with Wisconsin:

I only link it, because I thought this passage was pretty clever:

^^^ yes. But when said QB does commit to playing again there's no law saying you can't give him the nod. No one with a brain thought he'd suck because of the time off.

It was a bold move by TOB and one that will be inextricably linked to the rest of his tenure here. Some people are acting like RW committed a personal affront and that it is insane to even consider allowing RW to return as the starter.

I agree to an extent, but TOB's entire tenure? Wilson only had one year left. Assuming Glennon bolts when told RW *might* come back, Brocious would have been our starter in 2012 ... maybe even this year if RW didn't come back.

While RW might be >> Glennon this year, I'm pretty sure an experienced Glennon >>>>>> Brocious in 2012.

Nobody did anything wrong in this situation.

Wilson was looking out for his own future when he decided to play spring baseball. When that didn't work out like he hoped he gave Football one more shot. Instead of coming as the backup he wanted to impress scouts as much as possible so he chose a great team playing a pro style offense with plenty of weapons.

Glennon wants a shot to play in the NFL one day, to do that he needs to play football. I don't know what he was told when being recruited but I'm sure it wasn't "You'll have to be here 5 years and only get one year as a starter." He would have transferred if he wasn't the starter.

TOB is looking out for the team both now and in the future. There was a good chance that Wilson wasn't coming back at all, and if he didn't name Glennon the starter he would have transfered. Then if Wilson ended up playing baseball instead of college football we would be left with nobody but Brosius. "One in the hand is better than two in the bush" isn't a relevant quote because Wilson wasn't "in the hand" at the time the decision was made.

The press will probably misinterpret the situation to make us look bad, but what else is new right?
