^^^^^^ That's a pretty nice new Subaru for $21k. According to their website you can get it in manual. 10/24/2012 8:10:05 AM |

And you also wouldn't pay $20k+ for my S2000, but that's where the pricing is now.

How many E46 M3s are out there with only 25k on the odometer? You probably wouldn't pay $30k for a 5 year old Cayman S either 10/24/2012 10:23:20 AM |

E46 M3? Blech...it's like a fatter E36 M3 without much going for it. A bit more horsepower, but same engine basically, heavier, wider, etc. Depends on what you're going for I guess, but in terms of track I just feel like an E36 M3 is so much better of a choice. Do a search and look back at some of Ahmet's comments about E46 vs E36...he was dissapointed with E46 and he's a big fan of the E36 M3. If you sold your S2000, you could pick up a NICE E36 M3 for like 10k and still have tons of money to work on it with.
With that much trade-in on your S2000, it might be worth looking at a new or slightly used 135i instead. Or, like Duke said, go with the actually different E90/92 M3.
That is a LOT of money for an E46 that will probably need a lot of work anyways, because it's still a 7 year old BMW. You're paying a premium for low mileage, which I can't stand personally. 10/24/2012 10:29:52 AM |

Basically I would only go for this M3 to experience something new, for the short term.
I want a 3000 +/- lb sports car. Ideally a Cayman S. I don't see an M3 changing my mind. Ultimately I have no interest in owning a BMW. Too heavy, too expensive to maintain, too fragile (newer ones).
My train of thought here would be to trade for the BMW and then hopefully get more money for it when I find the Cayman S I want. Does that sound realistic? 10/24/2012 10:38:23 AM |

Yup, my same thoughts about BMW, hence why I went with an older one: Lighter, expensive to maintain but plenty left in budget for that since purchase price was dirt cheap, more durable than the newer ones
I think you should just look for a Cayman S, if that's what you want in the long run. Unless you've got some crazy Duke/Ahmet-like talents for flipping cars lol 10/24/2012 11:21:15 AM |

So yeah my point was you would be silly to turn that trade down. I can only imagine the dude would want some cash too.
Quote : | "I cannot fathom paying that kind of money for an E46 M3." |
Agreed. I was split between a $26k CPO 2006 M3, and a $25k CPO 2007 335i, and went with the latter for the newer model year and longer CPO coverage. Though I imagine the pricing on that particular M3 is only that high because of the insanely low mileage.

As far as E36s go, I think they would make a fun 2nd car, but personally I wouldn't want to daily drive a 15 year old BMW.]10/24/2012 11:48:13 AM |

I feel like the Integra is starting to border on not being safe to drive and there's so much going wrong with it that I don't have the time and money to see to it. And the expense of owning 2 cars is getting on my nerves. If the Integra goes, I'll also be selling the S2000 b/c its not practical enough.
So I might start looking at 2009+ Subaru WRX STI hatches 11/6/2012 8:54:55 AM |

Quote : | "The Motor Report is the latest outlet to crank up the rumormill over a return to Wankel power and an RX sports car for the troubled Japanese brand. According to TMR, a rotary engine could come back – and so could the RX-7 nameplate – albeit not overnight. The return of the RX-7 is said to be set for 2017, and the source quoted is none other than Mazda sports car boss Nobuhiro Yamamoto.
Speaking with the press at a local launch of the updated MX-5 Miata, Yamamoto said the future RX-7 would have a curb weight close to that of the Toyota GT 86 (about 2,600 pounds), and have a larger emphasis on the driver's involvement. Yamamoto was also the powertrain chief for the JDM-market FD3S generation (1992-2002 model) and was extremely proud of that engine. Yamamoto reportedly says he would prefer a naturally aspirated version of that engine over any kind of forced induction solution, claiming that the 16X rotary engine that has been developed would be capable of 220kW (295 hp) in that configuration. The 16X was developed in 2007 but has yet to find its way into a production vehicle.
2017 would mark the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the rotary engine. Frankly, it would be a shame if some form of the quirky and revvy powerplant was not found under the hood of a sports car anywhere in the market. " |

A pre-owned 2013 (weird I know) Subaru BRZ Limited is available at a dealership in Charlotte (they called me about it yesterday). 6 Speed manual, 3700 miles, every option, clear bra protection on front, dark gray color...$27,995.00 I have to say I'm tempted.
And coincidentally enough I have a potential buyer coming to look at the S2000 on Sunday. I currently have it listed online for $22k.
