I wouldn't hate on Purvis too much either. Has he been a dominant freshman, no, but he's had some pretty big games. It's tough to adjust to being a 3rd or 4th option on a team when you're used to being the man. I like his aggressiveness, though he could work on being in control more. His spot up three is solid, though his off-the-dribble jumper needs work. He's still damn talented, just inconsistent.

But that's pretty much our whole team. Obviously our regular season goals are screwed, but we put it all together at the end of last season. I'm still holding out hope for an ACC tourney and NCAA run.

In all fairness, there is still a ton to be pissed about. Our effort, especially with what this game meant, was embarrassing. Leslie is still too inconsistent - he had several opportunities to kick it out for open shots yet took it against 2-3 defenders. Wood saved our ass at the end, but his defense gave up some easy points. Gottfried made some bad decisions. Howell/Zo gave it their all. Lewis played well, but is still a liability defensively.

All in all, I'm happy for the win. But our road issues are concerning. Need to take some time and rest some bodies and start with a W against VT on Saturday.

ALSO - I'll ALWAYS take any win, and even moreso at this point. But the fact that we did it with ZERO points from Warren AND Purvis is amazing.

going for the three by far gives you the highest percentage chance to win there...

it's pretty easy to get a 30-35% look from three.

If you go for two unless you can get a legitimate layup you are only getting ~50% look and that ties the game and leaves you with only a ~50% chance to win even if you make it.

Not to mention sometimes you end up with a worse than 50% shot because refs don't call fouls at the end.

Lewis is 'scrappy' on defense. He gets beat on drives but he's pretty quick and stays in their face otherwise.

His biggest issue is strength/size. 90% of ACC guards could take him to the hole or post him up every time. Rod Hall took complete advantage of that on two very important possessions that could've cost us the game. Rod Hall is probably the 10th best offensive PG in this league.

Clemson is pretty tough at home. They smacked UVA down there. We're not a good road team (no team in the ACC seems to be).

So considering everything, a win against a decent ACC team on the road in pretty nice ... especially when we looked done in the last minute.

Not arguing with you -- Lewis definitely has to get stronger. But he's a heck of a lot better on defense than he gets credit for. Sometimes I think you guys just assume things instead of actually watching the game.

And FYI, Purvis was guarding Hall on his final layup. Not Lewis.

I think he is plenty strong for his size

he just isnt nearly fast enough on defense to be able to defend ACC point guards.

Lewis has become one of the better perimeter defenders. He looked lost a lot earlier in the year but has improved quite a bit. But he can't do much when teams get in the lane.

As for the Hall layup, I meant the two consecutive plays where Hall got the layup, then posted Lewis up on the next possession, leading to a foul and Hall hitting both free throws to extend the lead. It took place with about 2 mins to go. Purvis' defense on that last layup was pretty bad too, though.

Just getting in from the game. For about 39:59, I was miserable there, listening to their fans repeatedly spell Clemson, having to watch jorts guy square dance, & watching people get excited for fries from Wendy's. But seeing their reactions when that 3 went in, plus me jumping out of my seat & yelling, was one of the best things I've experienced in a while. I almost felt bad for them, mainly b/c I think I scared the little kid about 3 seats down. Damn that was great.
