^^^^^exactly. I take those stats from RH and a quality game from most everyone else with a nice W over a double double from RH and a close win or loss. And Purvis will eventually learn to finish.

crazy that rich kept doing his dumb old move of overhedging and it actually worked somehow. got a steal, knocked the ball away for would be steal, then caused and over-and-back (that the dumb ref overturned) 2/19/2013 9:33:18 PM |

Thoughts from the PNC:
I've always joked that Vandy shouldn't play, the truth is he shouldn't play AT HOME. The entire crowd at PNC literally lets out a groan when he comes on the court now; it must destroy his self-confidence. I'm not saying he should get more than a couple minutes a game when Gott decides to go big (like this one), but the only times he's been even remotely serviceable have been in away games.
With Carolina's new go small lineup of late, Purvis' minutes will be up next game and Vandy's will be zero without a doubt. TJ talked in the post-game about how we was being coached on his free throws that he was leaning back too much and now he's seen an improvement in the gym.
The refs were laughable at times with the "inadvertent whistle" on the over-and-back and CJ shoved out of bounds. The white dude was caught asleep on more than one occasion. It pisses me of so much that the more they fuckup, the more they joke around and laugh during the next tv timeout 2/19/2013 10:45:10 PM |

That was by far the best defensive game the team has played all year. Hopefully we see that more the rest of the year. Players were actually switching with each other and it was working. 2/19/2013 10:57:30 PM |

^^^ reffing wasn't half as bad as most of this year. it was a pleasant surprise honestly. there were still some misses especially with leslie getting hacked frequently, but otherwise there wasn't that much to complain about. you're always gonna have a few wtf calls/no calls... and they still suck when they happen, but they seemed to finally dial it down a notch tonight

Awesome game for State last night. Almost a complete 40 min. I say almost because Vandy got 5 minutes or whatever and we were so bad with him in the game I was telling my wife we should put in Jevoni if nothing else.
TJ Warren was Lebron-like last night in his offensive efficiency. Leslie was very good, but still made a few bone headed plays like usual. The FSU guards look like they travel everytime they start to dribble. And that dude Ojo is fucking huge, but has the basketball IQ of Vandy. 2/20/2013 8:00:25 AM |

It was NOT back-court. Howell made contact with the ball obviously and FSU had not re-established possession. Read a rule book please before bitching. That is not back-court. It was the correct call.2/20/2013 11:32:49 AM |

On the back court play, it looked like the FSU player did re-gain possession IMO. Howell hit the ball, it went to the floor, the FSU guy got it, dribbled, and then stepped over the half court line.
It does not matter at this point, but still there should be some type of review system in case a call like happens in a crucial situation. 2/20/2013 11:55:57 AM |

dont be a dick, people know the rule... the argument is entirely in the gray area, not about the rule. This "bitching" (that you so call it) is from those who thought he did re-establish possession, and I also believe he did re-establish it so... based on this "rule book" it is ok to be upset with the call at the time. In live motion though, I can see how the call could have been made either way, it was a tough one.2/20/2013 11:58:23 AM |

Officiating hasn't really been a problem for us all year, outside of a few isolated calls. We have more FTA than our opponents in almost every game, and Howell/Leslie have rarely been in foul trouble. Hell, Leslie travels as much as Hansborough ever did and gets away with it almost as often. We got nothing to complain about. 2/20/2013 11:59:50 AM |

i hate when people use this as a litmus test for how accurate the refs are. maybe it just means that in most of our games, the other team is legitimately fouling us more than we're fouling them? isn't that possible? i'm not complaining about the refs too much, it just seems that this year there have been a lot of terrible calls (or no calls) in the last seconds of a lot of ACC games (not just ours) that had a big effect on the outcome.2/20/2013 12:13:31 PM |

Yep.
By the rule book CJL walk on almost every post move and most times blatantly. He is definitely getting the Hansbrough treatment on those (but CJL does take a lot of contact at times with no calls). 2/20/2013 12:14:38 PM |

^^Well, our fan base has collectively used that as a litmus test in regards to an alleged officiating conspiracy in favor of Duke/UNC for the last 2 decades. The truth is that they just had better players than almost everyone else during that stretch, and were getting legitimately fouled a lot.

from where i was sitting it looked like he had at least one if not two dribbles before he went over the line. i think the main gripe is the ref blew the whistle and then started saying it was knocked away. no one overturned him that i saw it was just him stopping play for no real reason 2/20/2013 1:17:04 PM |

this doesn't necessarily mean that one team is getting more calls than the other. a lot of times this will be a reflection of one team driving to the basket more while the other is shooting more jump shots as the chances of drawing a foul are greater when you keep attacking the basket.2/20/2013 1:31:56 PM |

There was also a situation early in the game where they blew the whistle for no apparent reason while FSU had the ball in play and nothing happened. They just in-bounded the ball and continued play. Does anyone know what that was about? I couldn't tell at the game. 2/20/2013 2:13:39 PM |

Yeah one of the 7' centers (not the huge beast Ojo, but the other guy that hit all his FTs), he was getting chippy inside with Howell or Leslie.
Overall the refs were very good for us last night.
