Thought it would be Pitt that did it but I called the zags losing in the second round. Hopefully the committee will lose their over the top mid major hardon.

Ditto. Ohio State coming out of the West was pretty common.

Sooooo... what the fuck was with the completely unexplained "violation" on Gonzaga that resulted in Wichita State getting the ball following 2 made FTs?

3/23/2013 10:57:08 PM"

FYI. I believe it wasn't an inbounding violation. I think the ball was inbounded and then the zaga player went out of bounds to re inbound the ball. It was a derpy situation.

I picked gonzaga to win this round.... gonzaga loses... I move up in the bracket pool... a lot of people must have had them going further.

it was a fucking travesty that "upset" was called by Doug Gottlieb. he is fucking awful. easily worse than the shit ESPN used to put football viewers through with craig james.

I hope to god the committee learns from their shitty ass selection this year. MWC is down to SDSU of of SIX goddamn bids after getting way overrated (SIX FUCKING BIDS are you serious???). Gonzaga was a fucking joke of a #1.

not saying no mid major should be a #1, but certainly not one with the resume of Gonzaga. ooooohhhhh you beat St fucking Mary's 3 times in 2013 you must be one of the 4 best teams in the country. but UVA lost those two bad games back in 2012 so fuck them in the earhole, right? who gives a shit if they actually had top 25 wins?

tl;dr fuck the NCAA committee

Well the big conferences are worse than they have ever been in the game of basketball. The ACC compared to a decade ago is shit. There's no comparison. The West Coast Conference not this year but the year before was legitimately a better basketball league than the Pac-12. There's no reason that should happen, but basketball has become an inferior concern off-the-court and it carried into on-the-court.

I blame two things for this:

1.) The big conferences have gotten bigger for football and it's harmed their basketball. We are no longer going to play Duke and Carolina twice a year, that's happened in every BCS conference. The teams that are being added are for their football, not their basketball. Miami this year finally produced a basketball team worth a rat's ass, but they'd done nothing the 12 years prior.

2.) The increase in one-and-dones. Those players on places they choose to play, they're going to the big schools, they're not going to Illinois-Chicago. The downside of that for the big schools is they have a team full of 19-year-olds playing a Missouri Valley team with 3 seniors and 2 juniors starting that know how to play as a team. I know who I'd pick as most able to perform on a neutral court. UK last year won the tourney and this year they lost in the first round of the NIT to Robert Morris, because sometimes those one-and-dones aren't going to be as good as they're hyped. The big schools' basketball coaches on a large scale have forgotten how to build basketball teams in contrast to just providing TV time to high school players before they jet off to the NBA. (Not all big schools are that way, I'd never say Duke and Krzyzewski are that way.)

I hear what you're saying, but let me know when someone outside of the power conferences or traditional teams win the title. It sure as shit won't be this year.

^ they have the most money

If this were the 1980s or 1990s, Butler would've never made the national title game 2 years in a row.

I'm perfectly happy with the big schools being forced to suffer the consequences of prioritizing football and treating everything else like shit including basketball actually harming their basketball programs. They deserve it. And then the one-and-done players actually harms these big programs as far as building contenders year after year because they become less consistent.

I have seen lots of bad calls all around this tournament. Games are being called too tight IMO. There seem to be a lot of anticipation whistles by the refs as well.

Yeah, the officiating in this tournament has been abysmal. I don't expect perfect consistency from game to game, but within the same game with the same refs you should have an idea of what to expect.

I can't tell you what's a block vs. a charge anymore. No clue whatsoever. It's also impressive how frequently they get it wrong on who touches the ball last before it goes out of bounds.

Power conference teams being down = mid majors must match up better is a false dichotomy. As far I can tell, and as I thought all year, the mid majors were down just as much as the majors all season. This Gonzaga team is nothing special, even in comparison to their past teams. Olynyk is the only guy on that squad who is a top level player and they've had that in the past with Morrison even. They had 3 seed talent at best.

Iowa State about to get hosed.

^typically it is tough to draw a charge moving forward, whether or not you are outside the restricted area.

Aside from the fact that he go there after the guy had left his feet and that the only reason his heel wasn't on the restricted area arc is that he was in the air?

The player was in the air the Ohio state player then slid underneath him and was on the charge/block line.

He got blocked by the other guy also.
