It's a pretty subtle hint. There's consensus that TD 13 will turn into a Hurricane, but all but 1 or 2 ensemble members keep it off the US coast. I'd be paying close attention in Nova Scotia however.

I lost power in SC at about 5:30 AM. Not sure how much rain since yesterday because the float on the gauge is topped out at 5 inches. It's windy, but no major loss of trees yet. A few branches down.

This is a really stupid problem littering the coastlines. When the house is condemned and literally standing in the ocean at high tides, it needs to be disassembled in an orderly way, not allowed to just teeter for months and then collapse and pollute the sea.

I’m fascinated and horrified by the “rapid intensification” that a lot of storms have experienced over the last few years, or maybe I am just taking notice. For Melissa, a Jamaican could have checked the weather on Saturday morning and seen a storm that the island has survived many times over the last few decades. When you woke up on Sunday it would have been a category 4 - oh shit! Then when you woke up on Monday it would have grown into a Cat 5 and possibly the nastiest storm to hit your island in recorded history. It took a long weekend to convert all that energy into unimaginable amounts of wind and rain.

I tried to find some IR Gifs of post-landfall contraction but couldn't locate any. I'm sure you can find some resources...i'll keep looking.
