Half the team didn't get vaxxed right?

But do you actually believe that?
Also there were gaps aplenty in that schedule where they could get vaxxed without affecting their on the field performance.6/28/2021 1:48:16 PM |

Get the shot on Monday. Miss the midweek game if needed. And have plenty of time to be good to go for the weekend series. There was also weeks in the season with no midweek game
Also, sounds like they were trying to get the J&J shot and then it was shelved. But it’s pretty easy to get the moderna or Pfizer too. It’s not like J&J was the only option. 6/28/2021 1:55:31 PM |

^True, but these kids are also positioning themselves for the MLB Draft. There has to be a part of them worried that the vaccine might affect their performance, timing, strength, etc -- even if it's just temporary.
Plus, baseball players are unreasonably superstitious. IIRC, the players weren't eligible to get vaccinated until early April (Group 4-5). And that's right around the time our season turned around.
Yeah it's a stretch, but who knows. Prob just kids assuming they can't get sick and don't need the vax. But superstition is real. There was a guy on the Indians who used to pray to a voodoo god Jobu to help him hit curveballs. True story

The players have no reason to be afraid of the virus or to need the vaccination, apart from the social good deed of increasing vaccination rates and slowing social spread.
But for them personally, there is nothing to be gained from it.

Yes, and other players got hit by trucks. But the players who didn't get hit by trucks don't need to worry about trucks any more than before. That's because getting hit by a truck isn't a meaningful threat.
Numbers matter, and covid is not a meaningful threat that should even occupy an inch of their mind, except for their responsibility to the public regarding vaccination.

One of the worst parts of this situation, imo, is the lack of transparency by the NCAA. It seems like everything we have heard come out has been second or third hand reports from our team and others. It seems the NCAA made their decision on Saturday at 1am and just shut down their offices for the week. They could hold a press conference and answer some questions if they really stood by their decisions. We don't know the reason they denied Elliot a chance at a doubleheader on Saturday. Is it really punishing Vandy if they had won and got less rest for the finals? We deserved to be more rested by coming from the winner's bracket. 6/28/2021 3:09:23 PM |

The players are telling a much different story than this Kendall Rogers guy, who seems like he's carrying lots of water for the NCAA
Then you have this weird-ass tweet from our 1b Austin Murr.

Not sure. I know the players' parents are putting out some details, but things start to get messy when piecing it all together. Who knows if the truth ever gets out.
FWIW, the Nebraska governor is on our side

Yeah any politician chiming in should be viewed skeptically for sure.
Also, I’m not gonna call Murr a liar. But how the hell does it make sense that the NCAA would just be looking to “find a reason” to kick State out of the tourney? That kinda conspiracy BS doesn’t even hold water. It would be in the NCAAs best interest not to send a team home. The NCAA doesn’t benefit from sending State home. 6/28/2021 4:33:14 PM |
Maverick1024 All American 4866 Posts user info edit post |
I mean, I don't think it's crazy to think we were sacrificed for "the greater good" in the NCAA eyes.
If they let our negative tested players play Friday and we won, then we would have been subject to constant testing up until the start of the championship series (and beyond). If a few more positive tests occurred (esp pitcher), then we likely don't have enough bodies to field a team. This means no championship game for the NCAA, Omaha, ESPN, etc. 6/28/2021 4:52:46 PM |
dmspack oh we back 25500 Posts user info edit post |
i feel like that would be a much more clear cut case where the final series could be reasonably postponed.
the ncaa has taken way more shit and negativity for sending State home than they would have for letting State continue to play despite some players quarantining and/or testing positive. 6/28/2021 5:16:20 PM |

Several posts up but regarding the Austin Murr tweet, I'd assume the most likely reason he video'd is to easily get names and players who were tested/etc. Not that it makes it any more legal
But I do agree the conspiracy theories are dumb. More than anything, this is just another case of the NCAA sucking at what it's made to do. I really agree with a lot of what Kickstand said.

while it's pretty funny that no State player made the all CWS team (and it's a fun thing to get mad about)...not sure we had any great candidates aside from Highfill and Butler. Devonte Brown made some nice plays in the field but only batted 3/12 for the 3 games. we were facing great pitchers, but we only scored 2 runs after the Stanford game...so offensive stats weren't great.
Butler was 5/11 batting, HR, 5 RBI...but all 5 RBI came in the Stanford game.
Highfill would have a good case too, but only pitched in one game and only 2 pitchers even make the all CWS team and they don't have a utility spot where his batting might have helped his case. 7/1/2021 12:01:01 PM |

Quote : | "Pack finishes 23rd in final Director's Cup, but worth noting baseball only received 5 points rather than its large haul for being in Final 4. Per GoPack release: "Any NCAA team that qualified but was unable to compete in any portion of the postseason was given five points." If the Pack had been awarded the same amount of points as Texas, who also made it to Final Four before being eliminated, NC State would have been 18th in final standings." |
