It was one of the millennium prize problems which has a $1M payout— so basically lots of humans over the decades have attempted to solve it. But it took a few days and the equivalent of $16M dollars of compute for ai to solve it

My conspiracy theory is it's a giant psyop to keep GPUs that run LLMs unaffordable to regular folks and protect the 3 big players from open source competition. As with most Americans, I’ve been thinking about AI a lot this week, and how we got here.

The confluence of these CEO’s mixed with the current administration has been, and will be, a nightmare. Zero regulation. Zero oversight.

I feel like had we been under an Obama-esque administration, the US government would have been in on AI development on the ground floor. Instead we get this shitheel who is telling the populace that everyone’s worries are just a hoax.

If the regulation ultimately doesn't strangle open weight models and everyone isn't pissing themselves over some imagined threat (nuclear, bio, cp, whatever) then great. How does an AI "hide" a mistake? Like how would it even think to hide a mistake. Or if it knew what a mistake is, it wouldn't do it? Wouldn't someone have to tell it to "hide any mistakes i might dislike" or something? Seems kinda odd.
