"Is a Power Bug Hampering the Launch of the Motorola Droid Bionic and Atrix 4G?
by Kevin Krause on January 26th, 2011 at 11:43 am

Both the Motorola DROID BIONIC and Motorola Atrix 4G are poised to launch sometime between February and May, but word is trickling out that a pretty major bug has been detected in the power management unit used in the handsets that causes “severe” overheating, which creates a negative impact on call reception, phone booting, and wrecks battery life.
One source reporting on the bug, a trusted insider and contributor to HowardForums, said that the flaw was unfixable by simple means, and that it could be present in some launch devices. That is if the launch isn’t forced back by some indefinite amount of time while a stable power management system can be assembled and new hardware manufactured.
Keep in mind Motorola has not offered any comment on the matter, so it could be a very limited problem or no problem at all. We’ll stay skeptical for now, if only because we don’t want to wait any longer to get our hands on these awesome devices."

better not be.

i <3 this aria, but the battery drains SO quickly with the screen on. stock on my backflip I could leave the screen on for ~6 hours straight without it dieing. with the last ROM I was running it was probably closer to 8. I think I can get 4-4.5 hours out of the aria, but it could probably last 3 days if I didn't really use the screen.

looks like the Thunderbolt may have simultaneous voice and data over 3G but "may not be consistent with their brand" so it won't be heavily marketed as such.

Can anyone comment on either this app, or any other wireless tethering apps for a D2G?

^^Nice looking. Not a huge fan of the back of the device, but could live with it. Have gotten used to the bump on the X, anyway.

autobrightness is wonky in general. I usually just keep it on minimum brightness unless I'm outside and then I have a widget on the home screen to turn the brightness up

^^^that actually makes me want to forget all of the bullshit issues I've had with my DX & give Motorola another try (if/when it comes to Verizon). Have the prices on the laptop dock leaked yet?

Believe ~$150 is the speculated price for the docks. Nothing has been mentioned on if anything similar will be offered for the Bionic on Verizon but it only has half the RAM as the Atrix so I'd be surprised if it did.

for one it's cheaper to get it than a phone and a netbook.

then it's easier to work on things on the go if you can work on it on your phone and seamlessly to the laptop or whatever they call it.

this D2G is pretty sweet

I'm using Google Apps Migration for MS Outlook to transfer my contacts and calendar

Wonder how long it would take to transfer all my emails on the exchange server? Probably forever...I have a little over 45,000 of them dating back to Aug/05

well assuming the dock is $150, its only $50 cheaper.

and easier to work on stuff? work on what? you can't even run excel or word on android.

decent netbooks are like 300-400.

i'm also 90% sure that within a month someone will port openoffice to it. in the mean time google apps can view and edit both of those documents

how long should a system update take? i've had the red droid animated screen up for like 15 minutes after the restart

not the OS which is 2.2, but the system software or whatever, which is some upgrade from like 2.3.xx.xx to 2.3.xx.xx+1

I dont know what sprint or samsung is doing, but I know for sure when my contract is up I wont buy another samsung phone.

Moto and HTC seem to be much better at providing updates for their lines.

yeah, it's a shame that Samsung can't seem to figure out how to get phones updated in the US since all of the other countries have had Froyo for a while now. They make the best hardware but their software support is crap.

I've heard sometimes the root won't take[with that method] and you have to reboot and try again.

dunno about an X, but on my Global:

- download z4root
- install z4root
- reboot
- run z4root

if you don't reboot between installing and running the program, it seems to hang on the spinning circle screen...i think because SuperUser needs to get the most recent update before it will root

i did it on two different Globals earlier and it worked fine...version 1.3 of z4root http://handheld.softpedia.com/progDownload/z4root-Download-110178.html

http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/01/29/yet-another-android-data-stealing-vulnerability-uncovered-affects-all-versions-of-the-os/

Quote :
"Last year, we reported on a serious vulnerability in all versions of Android, found by a security researcher Thomas Cannon. It allowed a remote attacker to download files off a user’s SD card upon visiting a webpage with malicious JavaScript code embedded in it. Google’s response was swift, and the fix was rolled out in the public release of Gingerbread at the end of 2010.
A new report from eWeek came out today stating that another researcher, Xuxian Jiang, this time from North Carolina State University, stepped forward with a tweak to the very same vulnerability Google reportedly patched. The new method circumvents protection put in place and allows an attacker, yet again, to access a user’s SD card as well as the /system directory and directories that are open for reading in the Android sandbox. As before, an attacker has to know file and directory names in advance, but considering common naming techniques employed by many applications (including your camera), it’s easy to imagine a scenario with lots of personal information getting stolen.

Note that because the /data directory is not available within the Android sandbox (try and visit this directory with a file manager like ASTRO), no application settings and sensitive logins can be stolen as a result of this vulnerability. I don’t mean to belittle how serious the issue is, but I don’t want to blow it out of proportion either.

"What I can say at this point is that the previous patch indeed fixes the previously reported exploit," Jiang told eWEEK. "However, there are other ways to exploit the same (or similar—depending on how you view the problem) flaw. As I pointed out earlier, the ultimate fix will require changing some essential components in the Android framework itself."

Google is reportedly aware of the new issue and is already testing a fix, which will be rolled out as an update to the next Gingerbread revision. Many Android phones are likely never going to see this fix due to ongoing complexities with releasing Android updates and will probably stay vulnerable forever.
"

can anyone recommend a good free Flickr app? Just one to be able to quickly upload a photo you take to your Flickr gallery.

I did a search in the Market for 'Flickr' and got 300 results, so I'm wondering whats one of the better ones.
