From earlier, I just saw that St. Louis scored 7 in a half against GW last season. 20 for the game.

I think 38 might be the lowest modern-era winning score.

Today would go a long way in enhancing his credibility. We are only 2.5 point underdogs there is no reason we can't win this game and at least give ourselves a chance at a NIT bid.

I've said from Day 1 of this season that next year is NOT going to be a big improvement over this. With the guys we get in next year plus 2010, Year 5 will make or break Lowe. He makes the tourney he stays. He misses he goes.

I stick to that. My projections, should we not get Wall, for next year are 5-11 or 6-10 and a couple of games over .500 overall... same as this year.

if you say we'll be as bad as this year, fine.

but who really thinks we're gonna be worse? who do we lose?

mccauley. and we gain wood, mccauley, howell. and experience for everyone else.

if sid learns his personnel...and that's a big IF...we'll be better.

We have to replace 55-60% of our offense if we lose Costner too. I know you guys like to shit on them at every chance, but that is a big task for freshman to take on.

Wood is NOT going to be a factor next year. He is going to be a role player at best. Smith should be a stud, but he had as bad a game as anyone tonight too...

V lol, we lose 24 ppg

well i mean we don't lose anything by losing fells and costner. we gain.

^^smith played badly the last two games of the season. not 3/4 of the season like costner and fells.

How many of you guys went to the open practice earlier this year and heard Lowe talk about how they were going to "put a product on the court that we could be proud of?"

Well, I was there, and I certainly wasn't proud of anything this year.

5 FUCKING DAYS to prepare for their fucking zone. Tracy Smith became so ineffective that Lowe replaces him with 3 pt shooters bc he can't find a way to get the ball inside. Lowe got his ass handed to him tonight. Clearly, our guys can't play dead, nor play defense. FUCK LOWE. Hopefully, next year is his last. Fuckin clown jacket.

P.S. Fowler is done for hiring this clown part 2

I think that statistic looks bigger than it actually is. The problem is, that we get big production from those guys every once in a while, but they never play well at the same time, they put up big numbers randomly then lay eggs when scoring 8-10 points would have given us a win.

We got great production from the underclassmen today, and nothing from costner and fells. McCauley played ok, but he was shit down the stretch, and he was the man responsible for Neal when he hit those back to back 3's....and him helping off on on penetration on those 2 shots put 3 guys on the ball.

I think sidney has played a style that gets the most out of what we have, and you will see a completely different team next year. We may rely on half court sets a lot, but I think you will see a lot more dribble penetration with Brown and Javi as well as a much more up tempo game. This is what people were asking for....we'll see if we get it.

I think having bigs is overrated as well. Maryland doesn't have a true power forward or center on their team and they just dominated us. Duke doesn't have a big worth a shit. Thats not to say we don't need one, I just think we can make it work without them. I'm looking forward to it.

It's hard to say we are losing much when Fells, McCauley, and Costner were MIA the last 2 years. People will step up to make up for their mediocre play.

Herb destroyed the shit out of our program by leaving a team that lose 6 players, 4 seniors and 2 major contributors as sophmores....and in the process allowing us to lose 3 recruits and any momentum we had created with our 5 straight NCAA appearances.

But we don't need to discuss that. Sidney has not done a good job, but I also dont think many people could have done much better, and I'm afraid to see what another coaching search would look like especially when we lose the recruits we have coming it. You think its bad now, fire this mother fucker before year 5 and we may never recover.

i've defended lowe for a while, but i'll say this...

if sid a) ever plays degand over mays again b) can't figure out how to score against a zone when we have had an entire week to prepare for it and c) doesn't push the ball when we will have the players to play up-tempo next year...

then fire him please.

other than those minor gripes, i think sid will do great eventually. i'm looking forward to starting fresh with sid's players who, like jimmy dykes said tonight, make mistakes but at least they are going 100 mph doing it, unlike the cancerous lazy herb leftovers (minus mccauley, but he still is a choke artist).

That's positively retarded.

Why should have Herb continued to recruit Wright, Werner, et al after he left the program? I guess he also should have convinced Brackman and Simmons to stay, too...

I'm being pretty lenient with Sid obviously withholding judgment until Year 5, but the Herb blame for our current situation is absurd...

^^I'm saying that we lost those recruits because he left, not that he should have told them to stay or something. I'm not that stupid. Plus, its just a comment to counter the idea that its sidney's fault that we suck. Its part on him, and part on the situation he was delt, which, is partially on Herb for the shitty timing of his departure. Is that retarded?

If that were the case, we'd still be playing the Princeton offense.

Not trying to run an uptempo offense, watching it suck, and going "welp, we've got no point guard!"

I'm watching and I know it has slowed down, which is the only reason we've had the modicrum of "success" that we've had this year. End of the day, we're still running an offense that has a reliance on a part we don't have which is beyond dumb.

NO, Lee Fowler not contacting them even once while the coaching search was going on was why we lost those recruits. He had no choice but to grant them a release from their LOI.

Hahahahaha. I wish. "Macguyvering" this team would have meant that we could have overcome our deficiencies...which we most certainly did not.

I've been kinda quiet recently because we've looked somewhat decent over the 2nd half of the ACC season (although we've still laid some eggs)...but HOLY SHIT HOW COULD WE HAVE HAD THIS MUCH TIME TO PREPARE AND NOT BE ABLE TO DO SHIT AGAINST THAT 3-2 ZONE? I mean fuck! That was frustrating to watch.

I was starting to feel a little better recently...but it's gone back down to being very pessimistic.

http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=North%20Carolina%20St. number next to the final score

for a short period of time in the ACC when the team was playing better (right around when we went back to Javi at point) we ran a little bit but for 90% of the year it's been low 60s possessions/game

ASU averages 60.6 possessions a game
UNC averages 75

Not sure why anyone would think we're doing otherwise. The team is slow as fuck. We had Brandon Costner at the 3, we take 8-9 seconds to get past half court after every basket, we spend 20 seconds of every possession passing the ball around the 3 point line, etc

more than getting players to look like they give a shit, Lowe needs to learn how to coach defense. Or rather, hire an assistant that does. We've been getting murdered by screens since the Florida loss and never adjusted to it

- The "fake" average points that people say we are losing is 37.6 points.
- The slightly less fake ACC average is 33.2 points.
- The 3 averaged 37.8 points in wins, which only happened 6 times.
- The 3 averaged 30 points in losses, which happened 11 times.
- You would expect 3 upperclassmen starters to score > 50% of our points every game. In fact, they only did that in 6 ACC games.
- That percentage went down over the year.
- Their scoring went down over the year.

Between Javi, Mays, CJ, Tracy, and Horner (?) getting better, more PT and between Howell and Brown coming in, we can account for 33.2 points.

(We really need 37 points to win -- that, or we play better defense. All three of those seniors sucked it up on defense/rebounding throughout the year. Fells was only good against a certain type of player)

And to repeat a few intelligent posts above:

^^ sounds about right.

Without a doubt defense and rebounding was our problem. Our offense had to score every time down the court in order to keep up with our poor defense. Shit rebounding let other teams get too many fast break points.

That's why we lost all those close games like tonight. Down the stretch, we could never get a stop. We missed on basket, and the lead ballooned from 4 to unwinnable.

Yeah, after looking like a basketball team for a few weeks, we really faded down the stretch. The turnovers, rebounding issues, and scoring droughts all came back. Some of our offensive possessions are embarrassing, guys just look lost out there.

As a program, we haven't approved one bit since Lowe took over and there is no reason to think it's going to change next year. UNC, Duke, and now even Wake are on a completely different level then we are. This Lowe experiment has been a complete failure and we need to put an end to it asap.

come on now, plenty of schools with way worse programs have turned things around much quicker than the 5 years everyone seems to think we need to give Lowe before firing him...it's just a matter of whether we are willing to settle for mediocrity or worse (and I think we all know Fowler is willing to settle for worse).
