I've got a question about getting a NC CC license. I might be moving back to NC this summer and currently have a KS CCH. Is there any kind of minimum amount of time I must be in the state to apply for CC? And if so, is there some kind of provision that would allow someone who just moved there to continue to carry with their original CC license for a temporary amount of time until my NC CC is approved?

NC requires 30 days of residency to qualify. You may be able to carry with reciprocity on your current permit, but you will need ID to match. I would just get an NC license to establish residency, take the class in your 30 days, then go apply on day 31.

I have the opportunity to pick up a Savage Mk II-BV in .22LR for $320. It is in great shape, shot very little. what would you expect to pay for one of these? I'm going to shoot it this afternoon, will post back

I'm hesitant to drop the money on this, as I already have plans for my tax refund to go towards a XD9c, G26, M&P9c or something similar that I will use as a carry gun

Looks to be $290-310 everywhere online, so it sounds like a not-so-awesome deal, especially since it's used.

That said, I am in love with my mark ii. I got mine from dicks (normally $359, on sale for $259) and it came with an OD synth stock, accutrigger, bushnell 3-9x40, and a fluted bbl. It's super accurate and handles pretty nicely. A++, would purchase again.

yea that's about what i was able to find with a little sniffing around. There's no case with it, but the guy has a sock to go on it, and he added a longer sight rail for a target scope.

i'm going to go shoot it after work, and he's a really nice guy so i might just go ahead with it. we'll see if i can talk him down to $300

I really liked the savage mk II.. the scope he had on it was some japanese brand 36x though, i'd let him keep that if i went through with the purchase.

i'm going to a handgun silhouette match with the same guy on saturday, gonna try out a bunch of different handguns and see what I like there. will probably end up saving my $ for a carry gun

Classroom portion is held at the Camden Crossing clubhouse (Tryon/Lake Wheeler intersection) and the shooting portion is at the Wake County range in Holly Springs.

Class will run from 10am to around 7pm with a 1 hr lunch break.

Completed Rush's CCW class today. Highly recommended. However, the most noticeably part was how much fucking fun the shooting part was. I've been shooting for longer than I can remember, but doing it in a timed/stressed/vaguely competitive scenario was unbelievably fun. I don't think I'm any fantastic shot or anything (Rush: no posting pics of my target ) but I would love to try honing my skills in a more formally competitive arena.

What would you guys recommend to do just that? It sounds like ipsc is a little more hardcore than idpa, and I'm trying to do this with pretty standard equipment (like, say, my p95 and a bunch of mags), so would IDPA be a good place to start? Any organizations I'm missing? I really just like the stressed, action-oriented aspect of it, so those are my only real criteria, outside of not needing some super special $3000 1911 to be remotely competitive.

idpa is a great place to kick off. it's based on concealed carry "real world" scenarios. you have to draw from concealment ( just in case you didn't know)

My shotgun is fixed! Had some shells that wouldn't eject, but I know a guy who does rifle builds and other gun stuff and he took a look at it and showed me a nifty little butting in the ejector slot that freed it up- looks like it was a bad shell, because we put 3 more in there and they all cycled nicely!

but he did notice I need to get some sort of oil or something for it and to get the rust off (there are a couple of tiny spots- for a 35 year old shotgun, not too bad). Anyway, and one have a link to a good walk through and supply list for the good stuff?

This past weekend, my son and I went out to an Appleseed event. If you haven't heard of it, they teach rifle marksmanship and some history of the revolutionary war. It's a program that was actually started in NC. You get phenomonal teaching over 2 days for just a $70ish registration fee. Women, kids, military, and LEO's sign up for free. The teach various positions while utilizing proper use of a sling. You shoot scaled targets at 25m to simulate 100m-400m targets. And if the range is capable of it, then on the second day you actually shoot targets out to those ranges.

+ 1 for Rush's course. (i took it about 5 months ago). well worth the time and effort if you really want to dive into the basics, especially on the law side. learned a ton in a brief amount of time, and enjoyed the shooting aspect as well.

It's a pretty awesome case/bag type thing btw, it's for an AK-74 with a folding stock. Has room for a mag and some extra crap too, but lengthwise it's a glove.

I gotta get rid of this smell though. Can't be going to the range smelling like musty feet.

Has anyone on here used Gunbroker before? I have a few guns that I'd like to sell and am trying to see what the best option is (tww classifieds hasn't gotten any good hits). It looks like the fees are surprisingly reasonable compared to consignment fees at local stores and you would advertise to a larger population. I'm just trying to figure out what type of luck I would have selling on there without any feedback.

trust me... buy as big of a safe as you can afford or have room for. i'm regretting buying one that was "big enough" at the time. what ever you buy you will usually fill (if you're affected by the same addiction as me) so buy something that will take you some time to fill.

i've shot Deep River Sporting Clays, Drake Landing, both are pretty good courses. Drake seems to be a little better.

i just shot 100 rounds Kidd's off of 42 for the 1st time today. there pricing is great compared to the others, and the owner Tom is a great guy. but be warned, it's a challenging course!

Someone was mentioning USPSA earlier.... but I shot my second match yesterday... I think I did a lot better last month, but had a blast none the less.

Total gun n00b here. Only fired a gun at a range with a friend once.

My grandfather just gave me this gun. It has been sitting in his basement for decades. He has never even shot it himself. He says his father used it to hunt rabbits. By my estimates, that puts the gun's age at around 80-90 years old.

I wanted to see if it is worth getting restored. I'd love to get it back into shooting condition and try it myself.






I have no idea what the make/model of it is. It looks to be a 12 gauge, single shot, break-action shotgun. These are the only markings I could find on it.

The numbers in the pic are 695485.






There's quite a bit of rust on it. On the inside of the barrel and the outside. The stock and trigger section seem to be in great shape though.

A friend who is no expert, but knows more about guns than I do told me it may not be worth trying to restore and I should just use the money to get a new shotgun.

I'd eventually like to get into duck hunting or clay pigeon shooting with it.






Does anyone here happen to know anything at all about this gun? OR be able to point me in the right direction? Could it be worth any money? Is it even worth my time trying to restore it?

Depends on what you mean by restore. It is probably shootable with very, very little work. If it were be, I'd soak the barrel in something to soften up that rust, then scrub the shit out of the bore with a soft wire brush. If the exterior of the barrel is bad, you can just use 0000 steel wool and lots of oil to bring it down to bare metal. If there's no major pitting, you can degrease then reblue it yourself.

Frankly, the thing is a smooth bore, meaning that, if it's structurally sound, a few hulls full of #8 shot would probably polish that bore right up. Just to be on the safe side I'd try to get most of the rust out beforehand though.

^^looks kind of like a Long Tom to me...they were sold between the 1880s and about 1920 at Sears and Montgomery Wards...I had a 16 gauge Long Tom back in the day that looked very similar, except mine had an 18 1/8" barrel

Just needs some cleaning, don't bother trying to refinish anything at this point. The metal finish is still smooth and intact so there's no use in ruining it by stripping it down.

Soak it in WD-40, Naval Jelly, anything to loosen up the external rust, then just clean, clean, clean it with CLP and keep it well oiled in the future. Soak the inside of the barrel with a mop and Hoppe's #9, let soak for a while, brass brush, repeat. Once you have the big stuff knocked out of the inside, you can just shoot it some and clean it to keep it polished.

If you want to do something with the wood you can just oil that too assuming there's little or no varnish left. Gun oil, motor oil, anything will help it. It's probably a little dry but it looks quite good considering its age. Whoever used it took pretty good care of it.

Definitely worth keeping. I wouldn't even think of parting with a family heirloom like that.

I have one as well, older store brand 12ga. It was found in a house we remodeled between the walls, so I repainted it with Krylon and used it for a wallhanger. I occassionaly use it for the random crow.

Yeah, if it was your grandfathers, keep it. DONT sell it. It likely isnt worth over $80 or so anyway, but the centemenal value is far far greater. It looks to be in good shape anyway.

Try some #0000 steel wool and oil on the metal, and some #0000 steel wool and Howards Feed N Wax (both found at Home Depot) on the wood. You'd be surprised how well it would clean it up.

If you dont want to try it yourself, bring it to my house and I'd be happy to clean it up for you. I've done it to dozens of guns, they always turn out great.

I didn't realize there were other sporting clay courses in the area. I've only been to Deep River so far. How's Kidd's compare?
