Well, I at least feel better about my failed attempted at curling your hair for your bridal shower.

Yes, and a trial was totally necessary. I wanted something simple and sleek and none of that was working for me or with the veil, so yay crazy curly bridal updo!

In 3 weeks I will be a married girl!

left to do:
flowers

Wedding is not until May. I think we are way ahead of the game.

uh yeah you are. which is good! you'll have a lot of little stuff pop up in between but once you get the big stuff out of the way, then you're pretty much set.

So I have been engaged for a little over a week now. First on the list is one last stop into the ring shop to let her browse and make sure she gets exactly what she wants. Then I can finally show people the ring since thats what they all care about haha. I guess after that I will get to go through all this stuff although I imagine our wedding will be on the smaller scale of things and so planning doesnt seem that overwhelming at least not yet haha.

Exciting!

I have been having dreams every night about my wedding. They are ridiculous. Couldn't get the music to the DJ at my moon wedding. Married LeBron James. Had a joint wedding with my stepsister that was steam punk themed. Ugh.

So I know no one cares at this point, but the final countdown has begun and the stress has really set in. The nhl lockout ruined my wedding gift to my fiance and a bridesmaid can't make it because her husband can't get leave and she is 35 weeks pregnant and can't travel alone.

Aww that sucks Why can't she travel alone? I'm guessing that's just her personal choice? How far would she be traveling and how many weeks will she be the day of the wedding?

Yeah I could see why she wouldn't want to risk that. It's kind of weird she agreed to be a bridesmaid in the first place knowing she would be traveling that far. It's not all that unusual for women to go into labor 35+ weeks out!

When she agreed she wasn't pregnant and was hoping to be transferred to Fort Bragg. The Army is a hell of a job.

I liked both of those ideas, neither I had seen before and both were cool. Unless you are using the thumb tree to keep track of all of us for some secret govt project!

I've seen a couple "thumb print" ones...I like them. I like the rocks ones a lot...tried to sell the fiance on them and she goes..."maybe seashells." Shot down. But seashells make sense since we're getting married here in Charleston.

If you do rocks or seashells don't use the ultra fine point markers. The silver fine point worked better than the rest. And the tree looks amazing now.

If anyone needs a wedding DJ, send me a PM. I will probably be cheaper (and better) than whatever company you try to go to.

Lace looks familiar...was your gown pronovias perchance?
Beautiful details...I really love your cake. We had a similar tree & flower centerpiece. Very lovely.
And the bridesmaid shoes are killer.

^Wow you're good.. my dress was Pronovias indeed!

The cake situation was interesting.. our venue just threw it in for free and we never got to taste it nor talk to the pastry chef about what we wanted it to look like. We just had to email a photo or description of what we wanted and choose flavors off of a list. This scared me because I thought it would end up tasting like cardboard . Even if, I probably wouldn't have cared too much because it was free and if someone didn't like the cake they also had chocolate hazelnut ice cream, cheesecake, and chocolate dipped strawberries.

It turned out AMAZING though.. fluffy cake with doubly layered cannoli cream filling and chocolate hazelnut filling.

We were married in Charleston and used river rocks. Worked well for us, and I like the durability of a rock over the years. Less likely to crack

We haven't done a damn thing other than dress and venue so I finally decided to get off my ass.

I was poking around some caterers. One has an etiquette section that says "always send an invitation to your caterer"

Is that really necessary/expected? I assume if it's etiquette for the caterer the same goes for all the other pros you hire. But I have never heard of that.

I saw that once or twice but we never did it. We kept a pretty constant line of communication between all of our vendors so we didn't bother. Hopefully they aren't relying on the invitation to remember the date....

On a site note, our wedding was a little over a month ago so if anyone's interested in a review of our vendors I'm happy to let you know my experience (while they're still fairly fresh). One of these days I might do a full write-up of all of them. Here's who we used, though:

Ceremony: West Raleigh Presbyterian Church
Reception: Cobblestone Hall
Limo: Action Limousine
Photographer: Brett & Jessica Donar (http://brettjessica.com/) - they are awesome!
Videographer: Jeff Brewer - Media Brewer
DJ: Frank at Joe Bunn
Catering: Irregardless Cafe
Cake: Once In a Blue Moon
Florist: English Garden
Rehearsal Dinner: 518 West

How was Cobblestone? Not asking for a huge analysis, but we were thinking about that one. Went with All Saints though.

I've never heard of sending the caterer an invite. Their invite is the $texas you're spending to hire them lol.

We used Cobblestone - ask early, they fill up really early.

They're pretty flexible with decorations/setup - but make sure you realize that all rentals are done through them - no bringing in your own linens or silverware/plates. The only negative thing they are is very strict about how long you have the space - when you have it till 11, they mean all guests OUT by 11, not you leaving at 11. It didn't really cause any problems, but my dad was a little preturbed at how quickly they got us out of there - no lingering!

Otherwise, they are absolutely great. Kaitlin is very knowledgable, professional, and orderly. The space is however you want to make it. We did reception and ceremony.

If you wanna see pictures of the space and such, lemme know. I'll link you the photographers blog.

I suppose I need to start reading through this thread soon as we need to start at least setting up a date and venue soon as we are planning for Oct of next year currently. I know she has contacted http://www.delightfulinspirations.net/ but we havent had a chance to go take a full tour yet. Anyone have any experience with them they would like to share?
