I think a self replicating sms virus would be pretty goddamned funny. It infects the phone, SMSes itself to all your contacts and then does a remote wipe. 7/29/2009 4:29:36 PM |

Prospero All American 11662 Posts user info edit post |
^^it's called the memory effect, and it's typically in NiCd rechargeables, but other factors such as age, use, overcharging, etc. have also been referred to (but aren't the same) as the memory effect, it's somewhat of an urban legend, but helps people describe decreased capacity seen in rechargables over time. the phenomenon is common. the factors vary though.

Prospero All American 11662 Posts user info edit post |
Most modern day batteries, no.
But it's not ideal as it will reduce your battery life, it'll probably very very minimal.
The best thing you can do with your battery is with the VERY FIRST time you charge it, let it charge fully, then DRAIN the battery fully. Then recharge. Do this the very first time and it makes a huge difference. Preferably do this everytime, but it's not always the case. 7/30/2009 6:22:32 PM |

Thank you very much. When I got it yesterday it was at like 50% so I let it run until it died and then charged it all the way. I ask this because I want to add some songs and ringtones and I know it will want to charge at the same time. 7/30/2009 6:55:26 PM |

OMG you guys are freakin' amazing. That site that was mentioned a few pages back where you can upload songs and create your own ringtones is amazing. Sadly, or at least from what I've found, you can only use ringtoneish noises for alarms, so I just made a ringtone out of whatever I wanted to wake up to. Haha. This is waaaaay too cool. 7/30/2009 10:49:12 PM |

I'm pretty sure the iPhone battery is a lipo. They don't like to be drained below 25% or so and absolutely can't be drained all the way. The iPhone should have logic to prevent it from being totally discharged in its charge circuit, but the "full charge full drain" thing is from nicd days and does not apply to lipos. Lipos are happiest in the middle of their charge capacity for storage and usage. so, charging it when it gets to 40-50% or so is the correct thing to do7/30/2009 11:21:26 PM |
HockeyRoman All American 11811 Posts user info edit post |
^^Yes yes, I read that but that site does the work for me.
^Hmm. So usage only between 25%-55%? But I do greatly appreciate the assistance.

Quote : | "I Quit The iPhone Michael Arrington TechCrunch.com Friday, July 31, 2009; 1:46 AM
I have loved the iPhone, but now I am quitting the iPhone.
This is not an easy decision.
I was there in January 2007 when it was announced and I bought the first iPhone as soon as it was available. I happily bought the iPhone 3G a year later. I've proudly yelled "I Am A Member Of The Cult Of iPhone." I've been an unabashed cheerleader for the device to all who'll listen. And I've scoffed at developers who said they'd abandon the platform.
But I'm not going to upgrade to the iPhone 3GS. Instead, I'm abandoning the iPhone and AT&T. I will grudgingly pay the $175 AT&T termination fee and then I will move on to another device.
What finally put me over the edge? It wasn't the routinely dropped calls, something you can only truly understand once you have owned an iPhone (and which drove my friend Om Malik to bail). I've lived with that for two years. It's not the lack of AT&T coverage at home. I've lived with that for two years, too. It certainly isn't the lack of a physical keyboard, that has never bothered me. No, what finally put me over the edge is the Google Voice debacle. " |

It's not an outright deal break for me, but Apple would do well to reconsider their position on the Google Voice app. It's a fucking awesome service and getting it fully integrated into the iPhone would be great. If other comparable phones (like the Palm Pre) get on board with Google Voice, it's definitely something that could influence my decision to stay with the iPhone when my contract runs out. 7/31/2009 10:46:59 AM |
