google voice is a very interesting concept. I dont think it would have much benefit for me as I do not have a home phone and I keep my work and personal contacts very seperate. But for those with multiple lines and a large contact base I could see this being helpful. 7/31/2009 10:57:43 AM |

^^Hah, oops, I meant to put a snarky smile or something following "prominent bloggers", their delusions of grandeur and popularity make me chuckle
More seriously though, I believe Apple/AT&T is making a grave mistake and should allow Google Voice. I also don't approve of their "approval" process for the app store at all. But then, I also intentionally do not own an iPhone.
I do own a Pre, and life is good. 7/31/2009 11:23:17 AM |

I think it'd be one thing if google voice used the data network only to make calls and was some kind of true VOIP solution..but since it basically just makes google voice call your phone then google calls the person you're trying to contact and connects you to them.. you still end up using minutes. so, that really doesn't have much way of hurting at&t at this point.
although i guess the free SMS thing could def hurt them a bit. 7/31/2009 11:35:29 AM |

Someone asked a couple of pages ago if it was possible to tether to multiple computers from one phone. While I don't think it's directly possible, I did find out something today that is rather interesting. On a mac (and probably windows too, but I don't have the means to check it out) you can share an internet connection when the source is a bluetooth tether. So today, I tethered an internet connection to my mac mini, then shared that connection across ethernet to a wireless router, which I then connected to several other computers through both wired and wireless connections. I think at final count, I had 7 different devices sharing the connection being provided by the iphone.

My iphone fell out of my pocket (there was a hole) as I was getting in my car. I realized it was gone about 10 minutes out and turned around to get it. So it ended up spending 20 minutes sitting in the parking lot enjoying the rain. I turned it off, opened it up and dried it out. Its working now but has a few problems. The rain caused part of the LCD to display brighter than the other parts. Also the ear piece doesn't work. The loud speaker and mic work fine. idk what im gonna do with it. I doubt the warranty covers rain.

^^I've seen Engadget or Gizmodo posts where they talk about the fact that there's a strip which detects exposure to water. I've found them to be pretty cool in the store, so you might as well go in. Otherwise, go to http://www.ifixit.com. They have guides with tons of pics on how to repair different parts, which they sell as well.
Or, sell your phone on eBay and get another one, depending on whether you can get a new one subsidized. I've seen non-functioning phones where people have no idea what's wrong with it go for ~$100 on there. 8/1/2009 8:20:36 AM |

Assuming it sitting in the rain somehow didn't trip the water sensors and void your warranty, I'm pretty sure opening it up does void it. I hope it works out man My warranty got voided due to water sensors too8/1/2009 8:39:34 PM |

i once blew up an RC car lipo from over discharging it. i left it plugged into the car in storage and the load fully drained the battery. the battery puffed up super huge until it burst.
I'm not saying this will happen, it shouldnt since the iPhone should have smarter charge/discharge logic than that, but lipos have no memory and do not need to be 'exercised' like the old NiCds and NiMhs did. It was critical to totally drain and peak charge them repeatedly. NiCds didnt even come to life for a few charge/discharge cycles. 8/2/2009 6:04:57 PM |

Quote : | "Standard Maintenance For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month. Need a reminder? Add an event to your desktop’s iCal." |

Also has anyone's iPhone 3gs been crashing? It only happens maybe like once a week, but all of a sudden it'll crash and the screen with go all horizontal line distortion on me. Then I'll have to reset it and it takes an abnormally long time to start back up. Might be an issue with an app. Crashes more than my old WM phone. I guess i do use it a lot more though. 8/3/2009 10:58:53 AM |

apple store. i doubt at&t can do much of anything.
question: is there anyway or any program that makes it possible to turn the screen off while videos are playing? i've been watching some videos in the mornings for work and playing them over the radio in my car.. obviously most of the time i'm just listening and would like to be able to turn the screen off but it stops playing if yo do
any ideas? 8/3/2009 9:02:15 PM |

uh, no. for a while (well, while 3.0 was in beta basically) you could not jailbreak 3.0 but as soon as the regular release came out a way to jailbreak was also released.
what i'd do to be really sure though is make a backup then restore it back to factory settings at 2.2 or whatever you said you were at. then let itunes upgrade to 3.0.1, then jailbreak again. 8/9/2009 9:25:52 AM |
