I haven't noticed anything like that. I've noticed a couple of places just east of Siler City where I can't get any data services to work..even though it says I have coverage. Is it in the same place or just random?

Just randomly, and in places where I have had service before in the past....

Once I reload, staying stationary, it sometimes comes back on and works without any problems for a while... I was wondering if it was due to loading up a tethering profile on my iphone ... but then I deleted that, and its still not helping.

So, my roommate is getting an iPhone, what should I offer for his 16GB 2nd gen iTouch[sic] (kek)? I scooped his replaced Costas from him for flashing 3.0 on the touch and throwing Win7 RC1 on his completely fucked desktop, so...

I guess I could check completed ebay listings too...

^that's not a problem with 3.0, thats a problem with the iPhone and AT&T in general... fewest dropped calls my ass.

FWIW, I've had extremely few dropped calls on my 3G. I've got more than enough bones to pick with AT&T, but that's for another [blog]. My battery hasn't seemed the greatest but that's mostly when I'm running 3G/wireless constantly and leaving Maps open. It definitely doesn't do well at my desk at work where I have virtually no reception (no one does, the building eats cell signals). I guess the constant searching for service drives it into the ground.

is it still considered a drop call if you're still connected but can't hear a god damn thing the other person is saying so you hang up? i think not

that's probably how they got that title, lol

I still have yet to find out what a dropped call on AT&T is. Don't think i've ever gotten one. I've had a call been dropped on the highway when the reception cut out but never when i have more than one bar.

I've had Bellsouth/Cingular/AT&T/whatever since 2001, and I'd say I get 3-4 dropped calls a week. If I had to guess I'd say 20-30% of my calls get dropped. That's been fairly consistent across all the phones I've ever had.

I just thought that was normal.

I haven't lived in Raleigh for over a year now, but there used to be that one spot on 40 where Wade ave splits off where the call would drop every single time. It got to the point to where I would tell the person on the other end that the call was about to drop and I was never wrong.

^^me either. I've had cingular/AT&T for almost 9 years and have never had the dropped calls that people complain about. Now granted, I may not use my cellphone near as much during the week as some people but almost every call that has ever been dropped has had a good reason behind it (in the mountains, in OBX, in the deadzone in my office, etc). Never while anywhere with reasonable service.

but to digress back to the iPhone...has that glitch with the incoming calls not ringing been fixed?

and the battery % meter, that is only available on the 3GS right? not just 3.0?

Found this to enable those emoji icons for free and no jailbreak required

1. Install Spell Number from the iTunes App Store (it's free)
2. Launch the app
3. Type 91929394.59
4. Press the Home button
5. Go to Settings > General > Keyboards
6. Select Emoji under Japanese
7. Delete the app (if you want) because the emoji icons will still be there

i highly doubt they'd put one on verizon on verizon's current network considering almost the entire world is gsm.

i've read that there is a way to use a sim card from whatever verizon's GSM network in europe is called in the iphone and it'll roam in the states and still work correctly. do some googling on it for the details

I've been using Cingular since 2002, and I could make calls from just about anywhere that isnt an elevator or a mountain tunnel. It's only in the past two years that I've been having problems with my carrier. Since 2008 I've been getting a couple dropped calls a month.

Thats not a big deal though. My beef with AT&T is my lack of any bars inside any building. "More bars in more places" is the biggest crock of shit ever. I have absolutely 0 data connection inside my office and inside my apartment. I don't work in a bomb shelter either - my cube is near the outer wall on the top floor and my apartment is in one of the top corners of the building.

^^^i was told by one customer service rep at our corporate store that they were getting iphones in 2010 (she was trying to convince our business to stay), but 2 others at the same store later told me not to put a whole lotta stock in that. i do not have high hopes.

The Tomtom app is finally out. But only in the New Zealand store. Weird. It's $85, which I guess is to be expected. But still ridiculous.

im about to sell my 3G on ebay...whats everybody getting for theirs.

i definitely don't want to ship international (i know, where the $ is), and I haven't decided if I wanna go through the trouble of jailbreaking/unlocking...how easy is that to do for 3.0.1?

oh and secondly, why doesn't the facebook app show that bubble on your home screen with a number on it...like the number of notifications you have or something?

that would be annoying. and since it can't run in the background and doesn't support push notifications it couldn't update anyways.

The new version of the Facebook app just got submitted for approval today actually. I'm not sure if it does the update bubble on the home page, but it does support push.

^^Jailbreaking and unlocking on 3.0.1 is super easy. Just update to 3.0.1 and use Redsn0w with the 3.0 file to JB it. Then unlock it like normal.

Tomtom app is in the US store.

One hundred fucking dollars.

What a joke. You can buy an actual Tomtom for that. Yeah, I know the whole idea is the convenience of it being integrated into one device, but that's a ridiculous amount of money to pay for convenience.

I sold mine as buy it now for 250 ... after going through 2 iterations of fraudulent purchases where the bidders went over 300 bucks ... It sold to someone in the US for 250, so I was happy to just get it legitimately sold at that point.
