Miami snuck up on everybody...a bad loss early and two in a row (with one being to Arizona) kept them out of the polls up till now, but they have some solid wins and a great conference start. The also have 6 seniors in their top 7 rotation. That's a recipe for a really good season and a deep tourney run. 1/29/2013 12:53:45 PM |

They have more good wins than anyone in the country by a wide, wide margin and zero bad losses. I mean, they got their shit pushed in by Miami and they lost tot us, but losing to ranked conference foes on the road really doesn't hurt you. 1/29/2013 7:49:18 PM |

they beat Ohio State, Minnesota, and Louisville without their best player
if 3 quality wins is the best in the country, I guess its still January
and i dunno how 3 good wins is a wide, wide margin over every other team

A couple of observations:
Does anyone else think Richard would have 8 more points a game if he was not allowed the single power dribble he so loves? I'm not overtly criticizing Howell, I love the man and love how much he has improved over the last 2 seasons.
Tyler Lewis turns his back to the basket almost every time he crosses the time line when bringing the ball up. Doesn't he have the quickness and dribbles to drive past some of these clowns? Is he just lacking confidence?
For all you Vandy fans, he played .1% of the 1st half with CJL having flu like symptoms. Shows how much Gott believes in him.
Feel free to discredit and discuss 1/29/2013 7:55:24 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148442 Posts user info edit post |
I don't think Lewis has the size to always bring it over the timeline with a defender playing him tight, but he manages to get it over in time...I remember when Archie Miller was our PG we'd have to throw it 30 feet into the backcourt for him to even get open, then he'd bring it up a similar way
I think Howell's dribble helps him more than it hurts him
and yeah, I don't think Gott really believes in Vandy most of the time (or Robinson, fwiw) 1/29/2013 7:57:41 PM |
skokiaan All American 26447 Posts user info edit post |
In his .1% in there, Vandy managed to give up an offensive rebound. The guy just does not know how to play basketball.
He tries to use his arms to establish rebounding position, when anyone who has ever played basketball before uses their body weight. That's why it's easy to push him around. 1/29/2013 8:02:25 PM |

^ Why did you edit? He lost that possession on the power dribble.
^^^ Can you explain the advantage of the power dribble? In my career as a 6' 1" point guard/power forward in middle school I never utilized this move and got a lot of put back points. Honestly, I think that they think it just looks cool and has become accepted practice. 1/29/2013 8:18:58 PM |

I've been telling you guys for weeks that we are a bubble team. You guys just won't listen to reason.
If we lose four straight to fall to 4-6 we will be currently out of the mix and need to get things together just to get in.
BTW, we covered again so we actually slightly overachieved against Maryland and UVA. Wake was the bad loss, the other two were to be expected.

Yes, we are a bubble team and we've been a bubble team for the past 6 weeks. You guys have no idea what you are talking about you just kept saying WE'VE WON EIGHT GAMES IN A ROW WE'RE BLAH BLAH BLAH IN THE RPI.
and i explained over and over that the RPI wasn't factoring in our impending losses. And you guys all said we were going 15-3 or 14-4 and i TOLD YOU we were projected to go 11-7 but i had us going 12-6 becasue i couldnt believe we could continue to play so bad all year.
But you fags just cant be objective, EVER 1/29/2013 9:05:53 PM |

Kenpom doesn't account for injuries, just playing an average team on a neutral court
So I'm going to enjoy how face reacts to his projections considering they don't at all factor in Brown's ankle 1/29/2013 9:09:22 PM |

As long as Zo can get back to 100%, we'll be fine. No way we lose this game with him. UVa is a tough team at home...especially without your best playmaker and the guy that runs your offense.
No reason to jump off the ledge after this game.
I also think we were fine with Lewis running the point. He makes less mistakes. We had too many turnovers with him sitting on the bench. 1/29/2013 9:17:53 PM |

face really needs to sharpen up on his rpi skills. losing on the road doesnt hurt you that much. we're still #18 in the rpi and are project to finish the year with a sub 30 rpi if we go 22-9 (most likely imo). the only way we dont make the tournament is if brown is lost for the year and even then we probably still limp in if purvis can adjust to playing point and leslie stops turning the ball over 8 times a game 1/29/2013 9:30:22 PM |
