id love to see jed go, but if he doesnt its possible that if he HAD to conduct another coaching search he may go about it the right way. we all know his hand can be forced, a la firing amato

it shouldn't be too hard, the only hand he should have in finding he next coach if he is still around is selecting the right searching firm. But he'd probably fuck that up to, so it's a moot point.

Isn't it weird how all your news and insights are posted somewhere else (PackPride, SFN, whatever) before they're posted here?

You really need to talk to these folks about preemptively stealing your material!

our new coach will need to meet at least these criteria:

- needs to know the best starting lineup before 3/4 of the season have been played
- knows who our best players are, and plays them
- someone who has coached a game at the college level

Fuck people who use the "If we had just made a few more shots here and there..." argument

Its like Gordon Bombay always saying if his shot that hit the post was three inches to the right, it would have been in

but then Charlie Conway tells him if it was three inches to the left, it would have missed completely

Our new coach should have multiple NCAA championships under his belt also. This is something we would prefer, but is not necessarily the deciding factor.

oh and for any of those who still cannot see the glaring holes in Sidney Lowe's credibility, I say this: If he really has any kind of credibility then he should step down as the head coach to do what is best for this program.

That gives us a mulligan on actually firing him, so we wouldn't have fired any head basketball coach in over a decade. His resignation could potentially open up more capable coaching candidates if they know we don't fire anyone regardless of outcome.

And pass up on all that $$$ he would potentially get? yeah, that is happening...

We can argue this all year (and I like arguing it), but the fact is he gets 2 more years... no matter what.

let's look at this objectively. there's a few possibilities of what could happen in the coming years:

1) we fire lowe immediately and begin a coaching search.
2) we give lowe a couple more years to prove himself, he does not and we fire him and search for a new coach.
3) we give lowe a couple more years to prove himself, and he improves steadily getting us to a respectable level by the end of his fifth year, we keep him.
4) we give lowe a couple more years and he improves dramatically.

i'd rank these in order of likelihood to be something like 2 or 3 being most likely and 1 being least likely.

but what would each mean for our team? obviously four would be great and everyone would prefer that.

situation 3) would probably still have some people upset that we're not winning acc championships like we should.

situation 2) would put us basically in the same spot that we were in 3 years ago. hopefully before we got to that point fowler will have been fired and we'd have a little better luck getting one of our first or second picks.

situation 1) would put us arguably in a worse situation than 3 years ago because we'd have run out someone who could possibly be a good coach and possibly lose our 2009 recruits who are rated fairly highly. and forget about getting a high-dollar coach in these economic times. we'd likely get another risky new-comer and have to wait a few years while he got his acc feet wet.

This is starting to get asinine. You would think that after 20 years of being sup par to mediocre in every single sport we participate in while at the same time having one of the biggest booster clubs in the nation, we would start to set forth some actions to try and get a return on that investment? The whole athletics program has been terribly mismanaged.

sarijoul you forgot one other likely option, it could fit nicely between 2 and 3:

2.5) We give Lowe another 2/3 years, we suck. We give him 2/3 more years again, he makes it to the NCAA tourney or NIT tourney during this period as a bubble team on a down year in the ACC. Lifetime contract. We suck for the next decade+ to come.

i guess that's possible, but not probable.

of course, your definition of "suck" might slide depending on how well we actually do.

sucking for UNC is different than sucking for NCSU right now and i hope everyone realizes that.

but i don't think this fan base will keep lowe if we can't dig ourselves out of the bottom 3 of the acc in the next two years.

^ definitely different levels of suckage. At least we'd beat NJIT by double digits 99 times out of 100.

The whole point of people wanting to get rid of good ole Herb was so we could get to the next level. It ain't happening under the people running the show now, folks.

Football: 7-8 wins a year average with bowls 2/3 of the time, the occasional 9-10 win year and flirting with an ACC Championship/BCS bid once every 5-6 years

Basketball: .500 or slightly better conference record, 4-6 ACC Tourney seed, NCAA berth 2/3 years, sweet 16 or further runs every 5/6 years

THATS ALL I ASK

you have no idea if that's true. and we're a lot LESS likely to get to the next level if we get rid of our coach every three years. if we give him five and he still is in the place we are now, then i say get rid of him. but to get rid of him after three is just asking for a spiral down to further irrelevance.

it is, but not really. we and unc both want to be at the same place, or at least in the same conversation. unc has earned the right to demand better results, but we should not settle for continually being mediocre.

that's the problem w/ all the people who miss herb sendek. we were decent, and that's nice, but that's not really where we want to be, so we try someone else. lowe might not work out, and that's not a tragedy, we'll try someone else. there's no shame in that. w/ something as unimportant as college basketball, there's no reason not to try.

I disagree. In fact, to get a new coach who has coached at the college level and already has built in recruiting ties, I'd say we'd be a year or two ahead of the inevitable. And we are already extremely irrelevant.

you're right wolfAApack, I'm sure that you've calculated the chance that Lowe will take us to the higher levels that we wanted to be but weren't under Sendek, and it is over 50%. That's the kind of odds you must believe in to think that keeping Lowe is the right thing for our program.

Leitao resigns after 4 seasons and a 63-60 record.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3986162

Something to think about since Lowe is 51-46 (correct me if I'm wrong) in 3 seasons.

Here's the difference between me and you, wolfAApack/GenghisJohn/Bullet/others. When I sit down to watch our games, I want to expect to win. I do NOT want to hope to win. I want to KNOW without a doubt that before the season starts we will be in the NCAA tournament. I want our expectations to be above and beyond a typical D1 school. I do not think it is a stretch to expect these things when you compare our results on the court with the amount of money our athletics department is raking in. Basically, what you are not realizing is that the administration is cashing your checks and spitting in your face, and you are vehemently content defending this mockery of the entire NCSU fan base.

Lowe has Robinson to do worse then so he'll need at least two more years of the current trend.

i wish some of you people would kill yourselves.

^^^I didn't even write that post genius.

And you're assuming I think Lowe has proven that he's a great basketball coach...when in reality, I'd just rather take my chances with a guy like as a basketball coach and a representative of the university....who we already have in place bringing in a different type of player than we've seen in the past 20 years.

In addition, he's doing things the right way...most notably....he's not playing to the faggot clifton brothers, otherwise we'd already have the best point guard in the 09 class.

But by all means, lets burn all the bridges we've built over the last 3 years with high school players and coaches. Lets take our chances with some unknown hack who turned a mid-major into conference champs one season...clearly he'd be a better option than Sidney

you should stop acting like a retard. I think most of the people posting are on the same page here but every once in a while someone comes out and claims that we're blindly supporting the coach when its been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that we're not. Damnit I hate feeding the troll

And who said we don't want to expect to win? First off...this is fucking NC State, where nobody should expect to win, ever. Second....that should have no impact on the fact that we were picked last to start the season...we were not supposed to win more than one or 2 games in conference, and people said we wouldn't even be competitive. But since your expectations are unrealistic along with a significant other retarded portion of our fanbase, you now want to fire a coach who actually overachieved this season because you're mad that we didnt win more. I'd say the fact that we were more competitive this year says a lot about his coaching ability, not the other way around. You should seriously take a second to read what your'e posting...its absolutely insane.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM I'M TALKING ABOUT!!! You are accepting the mentality that we shouldn't expect to win. We should and we have every fucking right to expect to win with the amount of money being raked in by our athletics department and the tremendous FAN support (you and me!!!) we have for our programs. We were #18 in the nation in basketball attendance just last year with our shit performance, if you can believe it. It's not unheard of to expect to be great. See UNC, UCLA, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, etc, etc, etc

We have everything in place right now to be out FUCKING standing with our history and our state of the art facililies (time to move on now to results, Fowler), and we are pissing it away.
