Think it's just because ABC only committed to the Sat/Sun afternoon games. Don't worry, we'll be on ABC on July 13.6/12/2014 9:24:36 AM |

^^Yeah, I mean we know about these games and times plenty far in advance to push back original programming for a week like is done for all kinds of professional sports playoffs. It just seems silly that the US games can't be on a network. I know I'm asking a lot, but it's still lame.

We fight to a draw with the black stars, we beat portugal 1-0 on a poor pitch, and advance with 4 points.
Then we lose to Belgium, but I believe that we can win. 6/12/2014 10:17:46 AM |

After seeing the way things have gone with some of the more recent World Cups and Olympics, what other nations can actually host major sporting events without major problems outside of USA, South Korea, Japan, some of Western Europe, Australia, and Canada? 6/12/2014 9:17:51 PM |

China, South Africa, Greece, Norway, Yugoslavia, Spain, France, Italy Russia the first time, Sweden, Austria, Mexico, Germany, England
So basically only every single country that has ever hosted one except Russia's SECOND attempt at the Olympics and Brazil's SECOND attempt at the World Cup
in other words, shut up
"can anyone other than white people and MAYBE some Asians be competent???"

^Mexico backed out of a bid because of the cost, Austria is kind of small. They co-hosted Euro Cup with Switzerland. Norway, and Sweden? I guess they maybe could, but it would probably take a lot of upgrading that wouldn't be required in other nations. Greece isn't the most financially stable country either. Maybe they could down the road though. South Africa had its problems too. You pretty much said what I did, Western Europe, USA, and a few others. It will be interesting to see if Russia has running water in 2018, or if there will be construction problems like at the Olympics.
I think it would be cool to have a World Cup in Australia. I would have been cool with them getting it over us. 6/12/2014 10:52:43 PM |

Wasn't the US hosted World Cup in 1994 the most financially successful World Cup ever? And we literally have NOTHING that needs upgrading from a Stadium perspective (thanks NFL!). I can see AT&T Arena in Dallas hosting the opening/final game, with other venues including MetLife Stadium, Lucas Oil, San Francisco's new stadium, Atlanta's new stadium if it's done by then, etc etc.
Well almost nothing? Will FIFA let World Cup games be played on artificial turf? Serious question, I don't know the answer.. 6/16/2014 8:29:52 AM |

94 was the highest attended World Cup overall and per match. It had 8 less games than the current format.
The World Cup can't be played on artificial turf, but that's not a problem. The Georgia Dome and Jerry's World have put down real grass for soccer games and it worked great. 6/16/2014 8:33:02 AM |

IF Qatar is (rightly) revoked and the US gets it, I will be happy as long as Washington DC is a venue. Might have to make a trip up to Seattle too if the US plays there. Also I really hope match's aren't played in indoor stadiums, that kills it. 6/16/2014 9:25:00 AM |

^^ Well I am an American now and if there is one thing no one can accuse me of is not having passion for my team. England is still obviously my first choice but I am excited about the USMNT. It feels good to be part of a small minority of fans. We may be small but we are vocal for sure.
If the US somehow manages to get out of this group I can see some positive interest for the sport. The US women's world cup run comes to mind too. The US in my opinion is the next big market for football. There is a lot of potential here and I would love to see it grow.
How awesome would it be if we were 60-65 years old and saw the US make it to a semi-final, final, win the World cup?
