face doesnt give a shit about rpi, and in his defense it is a pretty subpar ranking system. for some reason the selection committee does.

regardless, if brown is out for a few weeks we're NIT bound

Brown was standing and clapping the 2nd half; you fools overreact for no reason. He tweaked his ankle, and I'm sure Gott was making sure he didn't seriously fuck it up and aggravate it by putting him back in knowing full damned well we have Miami to play at home coming up. We almost had the game without him, barring some NC State shit basically...

Lewis should get more playing time as a ball handler/distributor, but Gott. should tell him never to shoot. He always takes dumb shots.

I still think Lewis should have played a little more last night. Purvis is better off the ball and Lewis is just a better game manager. UVa wasn't allowing us to run last night, so that takes away any advantage Purvis had over Lewis.

That's the one coaching mistake I think Gott made last night. Also...we might should have went zone early in the 2nd half when our defense started breaking down.

We slipped to 42% chance to beat Miami. Things sure are getting ugly fast.

It'll obviously be significantly lower than that if Zo isn't 100%.

Then Duke is going to hand us our ass next week.

Well I also blame Gott some because we came out of at least 3 timeouts and didn't score once, 3 straight bad shots or turnovers.

I got news for you. 3 conference losses or less is being assigned a 3% chance at the moment.

4 conference losses or less is about 8%

5 is 18%.

6 is 36%.

Guys it's getting late in the year. We've got to try Jevoni Robinson before it's too late. Can we organize a cheer in the student section or something to try to save the season? We could be like Angels in the Outfield here singing his heavenly praises.

Once everyone realizes we're not going to win the ACC regular season title, the losses won't hurt as much. 12-6 is likely with losses @Duke, @UNC, @FSU, or Miami this Saturday.

12-6 is going to be REALLY tough now.

I think we lose to Miami, duke and unc. Then 1-2 more of our remaining games which puts us at 11-7 or 10-8.

This just isn't a good team still. We can turn it around but it looks more unlikely every day.

When we lose to Miami on Saturday we will be five games back in the ACC so stick a fork in that. If we finish in third place I will be ecstatic at this point. Based just on how we have played so far this year we will lose five more games, finish 10-8 in the ACC, and end up on the bubble. Sure we have the potential to run the table and finish top 3 but that looks less and less likely.

he should never shoot? you must have missed that pretty catch-and-shoot 3 pointer swish last night off of a kick-out pass

I know a lot of his shots aren't falling in college, but the kid averaged 20+ in HS. I think he knows how to shoot. As a team we don't take that many dumb shots, but if I had to name someone I would say Purvis before Lewis. Lewis doesn't even attempt that many shots - no more than 3 per game. That to me says he is smart and patient, and waits for a good look.

Not trying to knock lewis, but he's a pass-first pg, he averages 9 mpg, and he's shooting 25%. I hope he doesn't take more than 3 shots a game. And I want to defend the guy, but he does take some bad shots.

(I think he'll be solid in the coming years, but it's gonna take a while. That said, if Zo is out, I'm more comfortable with Lewis running the point than Purvis)

We don't need Lewis to take shots, that's the important thing to understand. We need Lewis to distribute the ball and be a pure point. He's not Brown, and probably never will be the same PG as Brown. Play his strengths, turnover protection, speed, intelligent court management, and take the open shots that are given.

Guys seriously give it a rest.

Lewis shoots under 30% from the field, has a super low usage rate, and a 18.5 ast rate vs a 23.5 to rate.

On top of all that he's a disaster on defense. The kid can't play. Not this year anyway. If we don't have Zo we are fucked but we give ourselves the best chance to win with Lewis on the bench and Howell/Leslie running the offense.

We'll still need a goddamn point guard who can bring it up the court or we'll get pressed and turn it over every goddamn time.

haha, what a joke.

Every turnover we give up equates to points for them. Especially considering our transition defense, and defense in general.

So it's even more important to have Lewis on PG instead of CJL or Purvis, as they have shown sloppiness and bad court management. When the ball is in Lewis's hands we can lower turnovers, and actually run set plays, versus Purvis's pull up 3 with a full shot clock or CJL turnover or offensive foul.

Lewis is our second best PG for a lot of reasons, least of which being his shot percentage.

You guys are making arguments that don't exist. When we are on offense the ball isn't in Lewis hands.

He is standing in the corner while the rest of the team plays 4 on 5. Damn do you guys even watch the games? He brings almost nothing to the table.

You guys must yearn for the days of dom mejia too

It was pretty bad last night when Leslie was bringing the ball up and Lewis had to basically yell at him 2 or 3 times to pass it to him at halfcourt.

If they play to Lewis's strength, and treat him as a distributor and ball-handler, CJL, Purvis, Howell, and Warren will be making more spectacular plays with less effort.

The problem is they aren't being coached to play that way right now. When Brown got injured, Gott should have regrouped, explained the new offense to execute.

Instead it turned into whomever gets the rebound tries to fastbreak to the rim. Stupid.

He can bring the ball up the court. If pressed, who else can do that besides Zo? Have you seen Purvis try to bring the ball up while pressed, and try to run the offense?

If that becomes an issue we can worry about it.

Last night was a halfcourt game and we ran the high low game with our bigs while Tyler stood in the corner. You guys are making it sound like we are going up against rick pitino 40 minutes of hell.

We can't win with Tyler so if Zo is hurt we have to figure out how to win without him. Zo should be fine anyway.

Yes, we can win with Tyler. We just have to change the offense to fit his play-style.

Zo is a slasher/shooting guard, and Lewis isn't, but both are/can be effective with different offensive styles.

Why don't we just put vandy, staats, and two guys from carmichael out there play run & gun offense, with triangle and two defense.

We'll put the system on trial.

Enough.

So say Zo is out, and we don't play Lewis. Purvis at the point and Warren, Leslie, Howell, and Wood also starting. Do you expect all 5 of them to play 40 minutes each? If not, what's the game plan here?

Don't say Jevoni Robinson, either. I don't know how he has acquired this cult hero status having barely set foot on the court this season. FFS, he's not even a guard.

Should not respond, but I read that Lewis has 0 turnovers in ACC play. Overall 1.2 assists to 0.7 turnovers. What's with the hate? He was not the reason we lost last night. In fact against UVA and Wake we kept the lead the same while he was in.
