I haven't seen JV play either, so let's start with what we DO know:

1) He's 7-feet tall and 245 lbs
2) He's from Australia, and apparently doesn't play against "high level competition"
3) He reportedly wants to run
4) He wasn't recruited by any major schools
5) Playing time is among if not the most important factor to his decision

#1 indicates the guy has the kind size State desperately needs. You can't teach size, and beggers can't be choosers. #2 partially explains the lack of info on the kid. #3 is encouraging, b/c that's going to be State's game. #4 is NOT encouraging at all, but doesn't prove the kid can't play or develop into a solid player. What's being overlooked is #5, which is very encouraging. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't Sid leading the guy on if he didn't think he'd become a solid 4-year contributor.

Again, I understand the pessimism. None of us want this guy to State's version of Brian "I'm 7-feet tall and 7 kinds of useless" Zoubek. But hey, a little optimism isn't a bad thing. Let's see how it pans out.

as for big programs, Nevada is a decently good program, they arent bad at all, id consider them a big timer.

Shouldn't really matter that much. If he's good, teams will recruit him. Ater Majok played in Australia too and he was recruited heavily by UK, KU and UConn among others...

I hope JV, if he does commit, is able to develop in to a great player, but it's obviously no certainty...

Im also saying I havent seen him play and I credit him not having a lot of info/video as a reason why there isnt a lot of hype on him.

at the same time...I dont think he will be a JJ, but we are THINNNNN down on the post and need any help we can get, given the staff has seen this guy versus a few other higher profile players that are still left on the board and are choosing to go after him, I think that says at least SOMETHING.

ive seen about a 30 second clip of him playing on a racquetball court or something. looked like he needs to put on some weight. on the bright side, he tries to dunk everything and doesnt look goofy doing it. I think theres some potential there but our team really cant afford to be wasting roster spots on projects when we already have like 5 projects at PG

also as the counterpoint to whoever the hell nym mentioned (im going to assume its some guy who went to UConn since thats ALL HE EVER TALKS ABOUT) aj ogilvys offer list coming out of austrailia was pretty shitty too

Andrew Bogut was a 2* prospect according to Scout and only has Utah listed as offering on both sites. He became the NPOY in his Sophmore year and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft. Now I'm not saying JV will do that, but I'm saying give him a chance. Now I'm not gonna bag on the kid, but I know that most of us would be much more excited if we landed Painter, but that's also b/c we know more about him. Lets trust the coaches with whatever they decide and try to let the kid develop if he does end up coming here.

I read that while Sidney did not promise him immediate playing time like he wanted, he said he would likely be able to earn a lot more in his sophomore year.

If the kid is willing to work hard, I am sure by the time he leaves we will be happy he came.

I've heard he's surprisingly good on the defensive end. Heard he's also a much better athlete than he's given credit for ... probably the curse of being a great shooter who's white, people assume you can't run/jump/etc.
