I was just hovering at 6-0 in one of the matches, a close match throughout, but the timer was down below 30 seconds, and we were down a couple kills or something...and with about 15 seconds left I hear a claymore click, get kill #7, immediately deploy my Harrier to a random spot in the middle of the map, get a double kill, and when its all said and done, the Warriors emerged victorious 6600-6500 or something

This may sound stupid, but does anybody have any basic tips to keep me from sucking so goddamn much? My team is more likely to win if I find a secluded corner and just wait it out.

Not the most specific advice I can give, but try to learn the maps, learn what corridors and pathways people like to take on those maps, and be on the lookout for them...also simple things like planting a claymore to protect whatever area you're currently in can be a good way to keep your KD fairly even, even if you kill someone with a claymore then have his buddy follow up and kill you...I don't mind dying if I can get a kill right before I die

^yeah i'd say the same thing. Also, when you're learning/improving, be sure to keep cover behind you or on two sides. I'm not telling you to sit in a corner and wait for people to walk in front of you, but pick places and areas where you minimize your blindspots. As Tree said, use claymores and to reduce exposure.

But to be honest, it just takes a lot of time and practice so that when you see someone and bring your gun up, it's reflex and the sight is on their torso/head almost immediately instead of having to find them in your sights. You'll just get gradually better, but it can take a long time, especially if you haven't played FPS very much.
