^ yea i think its more like some of these huge athletes have endorsements in products across the board (outside the realm of sports) so it seems nearly impossible to have not seen them in a magazine ad, a television ad, etc even outside of sports/news. but i said nearly. so it is possible. i believe you, i'm just saying. has jose carreras been in mcdonalds and state farm and every other commercial and magazine ad over the past few months?

i think its its because his stardom has transcended athletics that its shocking that people don't know who he is. to me. and that is my opinion.

In certain social circles and areas of interest, Lebron James is no more of a celebrity than your mother. He's an athlete and if you care about athletics, I'm sure he's someone of note. I don't care about sports. I've never even watched a basketball game. Why would he be important enough to me to pay attention when his name comes up or for me to recognize him when he's in a commercial?

The same is true for someone like Jose Carreras. I think he's a celebrity. I know who he is when he's on Seinfeld or mentioned in the news, but there are a lot of people out there who don't give two flips about opera music and therefore don't take notice.
