^ Yeah, the key to this manuever is that since you are out of your opponent's sights he can't tell that you are slowing down. By the time he completes his loop and sees you, it will be too late for him to react and lower his thrusters to match yours. So almost everytime they will pass you.

I used Alcohol 120% and made a image and I dont need the disc to start the game.

Funniest things that have happened to me or I've seen happen so far:

- Barrel roll off a cliff into a river in a FAV. I managed to live through it somehow.

- Two shock paddle kills in a row. Both of them saw me coming and tried to shoot me but I shocked them first.

- Repeated C4 kills on the same guy who was trying to defend his flag. I was on the roof of a nearby building and would toss down a C4 near the flag. He would come running at me shooting and I'd blow him up. This happened about 3 times in a row.

I'm sure there are more, that's all I can remember right now though...

I've found that flying low is actally your best defense against missiles.

The run into buildings that you can fly between. That crane in the port map is my best missile sponge.

Oh yeah the mountains help too

Well thats true.


You have to unistall the program and reinstall and choose the expert option on the re-install.

Durring the re-install you are shown the drive numbers or something like that, anyway, the numbers are one on top of the other. Just change the first 3 digits on both to 120.

Once you do that you can make an image and mount that. I have teh DVD disc and it works great for me.

Best defence vs stinger is to climb up into the clouds (if you can call them that, that white foggish layer) and the stinger will lose lock on you. Flying low works, but you are visible to other jets above you and other stinger sites.

Here's an interesting question for y'all. Would anyone be willing to let me see what BF2 looks like on your PC and see how the framerate and latency are holding up so that I could compare it to mine? Ok, this problem has been ongoing for to long for me to not ask about it.


After the map has loaded and I click "join game", I see the minimap in the corner, I see the kills happening in the corner, but I do not get a spawn screen at all. I pound my spawn screen key, no dice. Hit esc, "Menu Loading" comes up but doesn't appear. I can bring up the console, where of course Punkbuster is complaining about "skipnotify" or some shit. If I stick around long enough I finally get a spawn screen, but it takes up to 5 to 10 minutes to join. Its very very annoying, and I can't seem to find other people that have the same problem. Firewall isn't a problem.

DON'T modify your init.con file.

Also, Jon, the demo is downloadable from several places, fileplanet being one of them. It took all of 10 minutes for me to download my copy the day the demo was released. It shouldn't be taking 16hrs to download a demo, unless you're not trying to download the demo....

If I'm pinned down as a squad leader and want to be hardcore, I'll call down arty on my own position to take out tanks and such. If it kills me I don't punish.

The most fun I've had in this game was yesterday. I was on Zatar Wetlands 16 player map. I got in a FAV and drove to the middle base which the MEC was holding. I proceeded to drive full speed laps around the base and would cut through the middle every time. I got 6 kills by running people over that way.

^^ Yeah that was cool that you happened to come into the same server I was in. It got old hearing a jet and turning around to see those big ass bombs falling on my head, so I got on top of the oil tanks and sniped. I hate that map, it is by far my least favorite. I like the smaller city maps like Mashtuur and Karkand.

BTW you should get xfire so we can get on the same server together.

I'm pretty sure they've fixed it. I leave it running for days on end and never have any problems. I remember when it was an issue but I think they fixed that months ago. They just added BF2 support a couple days ago, so you can join the server that someone is in. I'm opstand on xfire as well.

The times I've used xfire it causes the game to crash at the end of a game but I suppose that could be due to the aforementioned memory leak

that's been a major gripe lately is that everyone is in some kind of vehicle which takes away from the infantry aspect of it. i dont like it either. but if u decide to stay away from vehicles, i'd go special forces or sniper. with those take long routes around instead of direct routes. take ur time and use the cover. tanks and aircraft watch where the bulk of the people are. they're not gonna be lookin for 1 person scattered somewhere on the map. i did that in BFV and it worked well for me, takin back roads and trails that werent heavily traveled.

voip not sure how it works since i havent used it or tried it at all.

voip is pretty straight forward, just set up the keys in the options and set up your mic to work right.

If I am in a squad, I usually go medic and let my teammates kill tanks and vehicles. That way if they die I can revive them or take their kit and take out the tank. If I am going alone I always go Spec Ops or sniper. Spec Ops you can take out tanks easily w/ 2 C4 and Sniper I just hide and pick people off.

Even if you are infantry, if you are near a base almost every control point has a TOW station. Just hop in it and take out the tank. I've gotten a lot of kills with that thing, and you can guide it to some degree in case the tank moves. Aim for the back or tracks, not the front.

Also about Xfire I have had it up and running for days now and it is currently taking up less than 4MB of system resources. Whatever memory leak there was has definitely been fixed.

Jon: You really have to pick a role and decide to get good at that one role before you move onto another. For instance, since I was AF in 21cw in Desert Combat, I decided to just got ahead and get good at the jets and let the ground pounders be the bullet sponges.

First, play lots of single player if you're not experienced in FPS's. That will get you your best practice. Start on Easy difficulty, the bots aren't completely stupid, but they just can't hit the broadside of a barn, litterally. This will give you time to think about the best way about accomplishing your goal.

When it comes down to it, all BF2 and other games that integrate vehicles, infantry and a mild amount of strategery are about being most effective with the available resources. In BF2, squads are the most effective tool because they have the most resources. However, if you're not into the squad thing (like me) then just focus on what your kit is good at. Really snipers and spec ops are the only classes that function well by themselves.

Practice in single player.
