Looked at B&D Boatworks 28'CC today, going to try and sea trail one w/ Twin 250 Verados. Fit n' finish is decent, some corners were cut and there is a decent amount of plastic on deck. Just worrying about buying a Boat from a builder that has been bankrupt 3 times already and keeping the warranty. Plus its just a big fucking boat...but good damn she is built like a brick shit house.

I'm sunburned, windburned, have beaten up shins, sore arms and a missing fingernail. BUT, I had a fucking blast the last 3 days. Winds at 20-30 the first day, 25-30 with ten ft swells and ten foot waves the second, and 15-20 with calmer seas teh 3rd. If the glasses were white, i would look like " " 4/10/2006 2:49:16 PM |

well, there are several factors. the old boats, from hull number 1 to about hull number 13214 with maybe one or two exceptions, have a skinnier bow than the newer boats, around hull number 14000 the widebow really caught on. the skinny boats tend to do better just hitting the waves head on and cutting through it. the widebow, being more bouyant, can plane quicker and tends to do better against waves. on glassy days, however, the skinny bow has an advantage as there's less wetted surface.
surfing on a fireball is freaking awesome
i have a skinny bow but i intend to make a widebow using a shop bot automated milling machine... hahaha

We had a pretty good week on the water... the Gulf is ALREADY up to 78 degrees!!! (the Nantahala wasn't as warm) We even caught some good mahi mahi... I would have thought it's way to early in the season for them, I've never caught one b/f June, The Cobia were rinning the surf. BTW, That snapper came up to a flatlined cigar minnow in 100 ft of water. I've never seen that happen b/f either and it ran and fought like a big king.
That last pic is a poor little swallow that landed on the boat 12 miles out... he was so tired I could pet him!!!

This weekend I'm driving the whitewater boats but I just found out that Dad had to call Seatow today... Apparently the plastic impeller that circulates the water in a Mercury 225 that powers the Reel Scream failed so it obviously began to overheat. I think this has happened b/f and I am certain that it happened to a Mercruiser I/O that we had, why the fuck not make that damn thing more sturdy... it must account for a number of engine failures... maybe it's just us. 5/20/2006 8:52:11 PM |

First of all, you can watch over an hour's worth of videos (a lot with me in them) over at my website: http://www.velocitysailing.com/?page_id=54 (Its safe to install the flash video player) Two weeks ago I raced from Miami to Savannah on the boat that I posted a picture of earlier. Thats 523 miles as the crow flies... quite a bit more when you're on the water and have to give canaveral a wide berth. We didn't finish due to a cannonball jellyfish breaking our steering system off our boat on the last leg.
Second, my buddies are racing in a series of races around the world on 40' cats call Volvo Extreme 40's. In this video you can get an idea of how fast these fuckers get, and what happens when you put them too hard. (Flying bodies through the air... wee I can fly!) http://www.volvoextreme40.org/vid/GPPort_day2_400.wmv 6/4/2006 9:54:11 PM |

what do you think would ride better a 30' donzi
or a 27' world cat

The Cat, you don't buy a Donzi for the ride. 7/10/2006 11:37:19 AM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
the thing is... the donzi you could stick dick around and tow a wake boarder or something...
the cat would just be awkward as a tow boat. 7/12/2006 1:01:42 AM |

cept the console is in the middle still..
i really have never been on either type of hull
i've always fished a mako or persuit so i really don't know what to expect for either
i have never ridden on a cat that didn't have atleast one blown big block and i don't really even know what i'd like
i'd like to go fast but not kill myself going out to the stream. 7/12/2006 11:27:04 PM |
Restricted All American 15537 Posts user info edit post |
Well that is the trade off. A boat that is going to ride well in heavy seas and go fast is going to be less stable at rest, where a slower boat will pound a little more (but what boat doesn't) but will be much more stable at rest and slow trolling. Contendors, Regulator, have solid rides but are less stable at rest. Boats like the Donzi or Fountain will go super fast on the water but will get airborn and you will lose your teeth. Cats are very nice riding (you have to get use to the side to side motion) but they suck at turning and are much slower. There has also been some stability issuses in certain seas. Or boat we just bought (265 Express) still pounds a little but is much heavier and is the ultimate fishing platform for a smaller boat since it has no eurotransom bullshit. 7/12/2006 11:31:37 PM |

i've found one of those in houston (harder to find the exact one)
but i think that would be a prime thing cause you'd still have the diesel clatter that would draw curious fish too + the gas consumption would be sick. 7/12/2006 11:36:47 PM |
