I guess when you come from a school/state where you are used to losing, its only normal to hate other schools/pro teams and players that are good. I guess I really can't say shit though since Miami stunk it up last year, but we'll be back soon.

Reggie Bush is a dynamic football player.

He is sensational around the goaline as proven by his TD's when there was nothing there.

He is able to turn no gainers into big gainers.

He is able to turn a ~15 yard play (yesterday) into a game-changing, record setting, 88 yard TD.

He is able to win games on a punt return for a TD.

He is able to draw more than the average amount of attention from the RB spot because of being a dual threat as a runner/receiver.

His yards per carry left a lot to be desired, but if you look at his numbers in the 2nd half of the season he was absolutely terrific. Assuming he's healthy he will have a long and productive career.

Mario Williams on the other hand has not proven that he has the quickness/burst to become a proven pass rusher. He didnt make many plays in the running game either. I think he will improve as he develops better technique.

However, if the players were re-drafted this offseason there is no way Mario Williams would go in the top 5 coming off of a disappointing rookie season. Maybe he improves, maybe he doesnt.

Maybe Bush improves as a runner, maybe he doesn't. Regardless he's still an effective football player ALREADY. If he improves as a runner he is an instant pro bowl level talent.

^^I agree with all of that.

I think there is still a question about whether Bush can be an every-down running back. He is very effective when he shares the backfield with a power runner like Duece or Lendale White. They cover up his deficiencies running in the middle.

What happens when he has to shoulder the load himself?

No one can tell that at this point. Durability may be an issue at his size but I see a similar skillset [and frame] to LaDanian Tomlinson. Before people jump all over me for that by comparing yardage totals from their rookie years look at the yard per carry for both. Exactly 3.6 for both in their rookie years. Reggie obviously wasn't the featured back so that is a valid question about him shouldering the load but until he does or doesn't then we can't make that judgment...

I don't know if a lot of people watched LT2 during his rookie year since no one gave a shit about SD at that time but he had a lot of negative carries and short 1-2 yard carries because he was prone to dancing like Bush is. He matured into the best back in football. Not saying Bush will do the same but I certainly don't think you can discount him completely after 1 year of a 3.6 ypc..

Then for the rest of the game, he didnt rattle off shit like it was no thing!

LT is bigger and stronger than Reggie Bush. He is 221 lbs, while Bush is only about 205.

Also, LT ran for 1200 yards and 10 TD's on the ground as a rookie, playing for one of the worst teams in the league.

I don't see the comparison.

LT2 was NOT 221 his rookie season (it remains to be seen how much muscle Bush can add after a pro offseason workout for the first time) and he carried the ball nearly 2.5 times as much as Bush. They had very similar styles running the ball and identical yards per carry. I put the disclaimer in there about his rushing total because I knew someone would compare that statistic and you did anyway.

I'm not saying he had as good a rookie year (because he didn't) or that he'll become that type of player (because he likely won't). Just saying that you shouldn't close the book on his abilities as a rusher..

[Edited on January 22, 2007 at 4:15 PM. Reason : Bush is 5'11" .. LT2 is 5'10" .. he can add muscle to his frame w/o losing speed still..]

" You guys are getting really fucking repetitive and stupid. He lines up at the RB position. He makes plays from the RB position.

Sometimes LB's line up as down linemen. Sometimes Safeties play close to the line of scrimmage.

Was Kevin Greene a DE instead of an LB? Was Ronnie Lott a LB instead of a SS?
"

Nope. Greene wasn't a very good coverage LB. Lott would've been great as a LB. Prototype for all rovers.

Quote :
"
He is lining up at RB.

It takes a different skill set to line up at RB than WR. Why would they line him up at WR when he is CLEARLY more effective at RB?

WR are designed to stretch the field by touching the ball a few times a game. RB's are playmakers who yuo want to get the ball to more frequently.

Bush lines up at RB because he's a very good RB. Could he also play WR? Probably, but he is tremendously effective at RB so he will continue to play RB.
"

When comparing him to other RB's who also line up in the backfield, he shines when he needs to catch a screen pass or when he runs a short route as Brees' last option. He's one of the best catching RB's in the league. No argument there.

But catching passes from the RB slot does not a running back make. It's only half the equation. If the ball's not being thrown or pitched to him, he can't do anything. It makes him one dimensional, a one trick pony. I'm not saying that's a bad thing either. There are plenty of good RB's that can't catch worth a lick and just run forward and be successful.

I'd compare him to Vick. He's good because he's different from everyone else. Defenses think RB and try to find ways to stuff the run. Gameplans are changed on account of him, because he's different from the norm. We, the fans, have our own opinions about the ideal running back, and they're based on guys who could run first and catch second. Bush is different and sometimes he will be cast in a negative light because he is that way.

He's a playmaker, plain and simple. He does not fit the standard RB mold (at the moment), and he doesn't have the hands and the precise route running to be an WR. Find some way to get him the ball though, and he might take it to the house. If he's in the RB position, it's the easiest way to get him the ball, and that's why he plays that position. When they need some runs, the Saints still have Deuce.

I guess in my own discombobulated way, I'm agreeing on some points and disagreeing on others. He's a good playmaker, but there's definitely room for improvement.

It's easier for a backup RB to get YPC.

Hell, Turner got over 6 YPC backing up LT, he must be even better!

Ahaha, I was thinking the same thing.

It sure did change the game, after that play, the Saints didn't do shit!

to be fair, that play did appear to shift momentum to the saints, and you cant put their chokejob/collapse solely on bush (or any one player)

but it just goes to show rally's cockslobbing bias

LT? Are you serious?

Bush has made some dynamic plays as a scat back/slot receiver. If anything he shows potential as a young Brian Westbrook.

What exactly changed in the game? The saints lost by 7 less points? Jesus you're a retard.

It's just like you juggling vick's nuts - you get all excited about his record for rushing as a QB when, in the end, it amounts to jack fucking shit.

Oh, and Bush's other 6 catches averaged out to be the 7th best on his team. An 4 rushes for 19 yards. YA-fuckin-WN.

rally:

I think Bush is average. I'm not wrong, because it's what I THINK motherfucker. He started off bad and ended well. That's average by definition.

His touchdown yesterday was awesome. I've no problem admitting that, because it briefly swung the momentum heavily in our favor. Our idiot coach decided that he didn't need to run the ball ever, and THAT cost us the game, but I won't fault Bush for that. Hell, he was even effective on the four fucking carries that idiot Payton gave him. But that's a different thread entirely.

Look man, everyone that you think is "against" you will readily admit that Bush had some good games this season. YOU, however, seem fine with pretending the bad games never happened and are carrying on like he lit the fucking league up every time he walked on the field. That makes you no different from the saintsreport.com zombies who get all fucking pantywadded and bitchwhiney whenever someone second-guesses ANYTHING about the team, whether it be coaching, personnel, execution, whatever.

This entire thread is one HUGE cycle!!

People constructively criticize bush <> People get offended and say others are hating

Bush does not suck, stop it with the lame comparisons to L.T

I don't think noone is arguing this. Focus on his RUNNING SKILLS OUT OF THE BACKFIELD. I think that's what this thread is about. Noone is saying he's garbage (maybe taking handoffs) as an overall player.

So using your logic, you just called Rivers a loser. Is that what you are trying to say? Because I don't think a lot of people on here would like that.
