^^When you lose a dramatic amount of weight, you will go down in ring sizes some as well. Also, don't weigh yourself when you're trying to lose weight. Unless you weight yourself at exactly the same time everyday it will fluctuate, and in the end it'll just annoy you. I just exercise to keep myself happy and healthy and I know what my weight is by how my clothes fit.

That's the thing though... It's not like I've lost a dramatic amount of weight but my rings won't even stay on my ring fingers anymore.

I thought it was just at certain times of the day but they never fit now.

[Edited on February 26, 2007 at 4:20 PM. Reason : I mean my size 6 rings fit on my pointer and middle fingers now.]

^Oddly enough all my fingers except my pinky fit the same ring (even the thumb). Could it be a seasonal thing? You know your fingers expand in the summer and contract in the winter.

I talked to my personal trainer and he said I could do 30 minutes of high intensity or 45 mins of low intensity. So basically 30-45 minutes a day.

I'm seeing results too! I was able to do an exercise I couldn't at the beginning of all this. Plus, my pants are hangin' loose and shiznat. I've been sticking to my diet better now. Yay!

I don't even crave fast food when I'm hungry and smell it on my drive home. It jsut smells like greasy smoke, blegh.

I do still have a sweet tooth but Ryan's mother found these sugar free mint cookies that are pretty good so when the craving hits I eat a few of those!

I'm feeling pretty good right now and really crossing my fingers that come July I'll look pretty good in a bathing suit!!

i figured i have to lose a pound a week to reach my goal by the wedding...i've been doing pretty well i think except for the freakin WEEKENDS!! its so hard to eat healthy when i'm cooking all this yummy food for my fiance like burgers & fries & rice crispie treats. I try to not do it so often and then i make myself a veggie burger & just a few oven cooked fries

I go straight to the gym after work and i'm so tired when i get home at 730, so i just reach for whatever is easiest to make...which is usually the most unhealthy. what are some good healthy and FAST dinner recipes??

and i had pizza today for lunch but only one piece so my diet isnt completely ruined for the day

So I go into work today and before my coworker even says hi he tells me what he weighs currently, as if I remembered his original weight, and then tells me he's lost 24lbs. in two weeks. He also mentions that he's been running with another coworker and she's lost ten pounds so far.

So here I am, working my mother fucking ass off, going 6 to 7 days a week, eating better for the most part, and the scale says a whopping 5lbs. drop form a month and a half ago. Little twerked that these folks are losing weight faster than me and doing it the half ass way? YES!!

Only thing that hasn't entirely made me lose hope is that in a few months when they break down they'll gain it back and then some whereas I'll still be losing and keeping it off. They're still eating fast food, just grilled chicken instead of the horrible awful stuff, still drinking beer to their hearts desire, doing the quick fix.

What could I do better to get the fat off? Is my weight training 2x a week causing issues? I do intense cardio 5 to 6 times a week.... I try to eat well and do for the most part, maybe once or twice a week I'll have a meal that's bad but I'll hop right back on, I never pig out fora whole day or eat more than two bad meals a week. aerklghqeri

Ha I don't know. I'm happy for them but I am seriously trying very hard for this and have seen it sloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwllllllllllllyyyyy showing results. These guys drop soda and lose a whole five thousand pounds.

My trainer said one day "The slow turtle wins the race." But come on!!! I feel like maybe there's something I'm not doing right, maybe I'm making myself work so hard at the gym for nothing because of this one stupid thing I'm doing, which is what!? I really don't think slipping up and eating something bad for one damn meal is gonna affect my training, esp. when people take a day off and seem to be fine.

If you are losing weight, you are doing something right already. If your weight loss plateaus, you can ramp up your workouts.

You probably already know that muscle weighs more than fat, and since you are weight lifting, you are putting on muscle at the same time as losing fat, so looking at the scale might make you think you aren't really losing as fast as you want. Maybe you should find a better way to measure your progress, like the fit of your clothes, your measurements, or your BMI.

Your coworker lost 24 lbs in 2 weeks? That's either a lie or a terrible case of food poisoning. Don't compare yourself to others, succeed on your own terms.

Are you watching your calories? (Forgive me, I only read the last page of this thread.) If you aren't watching portions -- and I mean breaking out the measuring cups -- you could be taking in a lot more food than you think. I read an article about portions recently. The author had toast with a tablespoon of peanut butter every morning for breakfast. When she actually measured it, it turns out she was putting 1/4 cup of pb on her toast.

In any case, you should be proud of yourself for working so hard. You are going about this in a good way, and setting yourself up for long term results. Keep up the good work, and congrats on your weight loss!

Any reason why I get hungry like every two hours? Starving type hungry? Does that mean my metabolism has gone up or I'm not eating enough of [whatever that nutrient is] that fills people up?

Fiber?
Protein? I eat as much of that as I can.

Cool thx.

it'll come and go in phases

notice how if you skip breakfast (at least in my case), you arent even that hungry when lunchtime comes around. But if you eat breakfast, it gets the metabolism going and I'm usually very hungry by lunchtime

are you eating a lot of processed carbohydrates like rice cakes or granola bars? are you eating foods with almost no fat content? proteins and fats tend to make you feel satiated for longer, since they take longer to digest.

you arent eating enough. you would be better off with healthier, larger meals. have a large salad with lowcal dressing. anyone can make a salad. a whole can of tomato soup is only like 200 calories and a lot of food. a veggie sub without cheese is only like 350 calories. a pound of tofu is only 400 calories. you have to eat larger meals of better food.

Perogies? Like those pasta things with potatos/cheese in the center? I like those........

Salads are good and will get lots of veggies into my meals. I have cottage cheese too, yet to dig into that.

This diet thing sure is taking some time for me to dive into...:/

Cool, I burned a meal off today at the gym. If I eat too little will I start losing muscle even if I continue to work out? I don't want that to happen!

if you eat too little you will not only sacrafice muscle but your body will get used to it so whenever you eat a normal ammount you will put weight back on. One of your biggest problems are those uncrustables....so much refined sugar.

WELL PEWP.

Last night I bought lots of emats so I force myself to cook some damn shit. A diet is a lot fucking harder than I thought it would be. I'm getting different information form everyone on what to focus on. I'm trying to find the ebst of everything and apparently doing a shitty job of that! I'm seriously considering a nutritionist who can sit me down and make a grocery list and say "Ok have these meals and that would include all the nutrients you need." Thank God I take a multi vitamin or I'd be dead or something.

Do nutritionists exists and how would I go about finding one? How much would a consultation type deal be? I have no problem sticking to a diet with a nice variety of foods to pick from if I jsut knew what to look for!

ertykrletr

Other than that the workouts are goin great!

i'd say a nutritionist would be a good idea. different things work for different people. for me, skipping lunch has helped me lose almost 30 lbs, but most people say that that should make people blow up like a balloon.

if losing weight is really a goal for you, then I'd speak w/ someone who can individualize it for you. it's probably the best step. more expensive, but it'll pay off in the long run.

I'm going to see a nutritionist Tuesday at school. It don't cost anything, and maybe she can point me in the right direction. Keep up the good work.

My Daddy went shopping for me and got me all kinds of low calorie, low fat foods. And I am working all week on portion control, eating less overall, and making healthier food choices. It's been kinda rough the past couple of days, but today was better, and I think tomorrow will be good too.

Sure, will do! I just wonder what its all about. Last week I had to have my "yearly" and I was nervous as shit, because of what happened last time; plus the girl that was supposed to buy my car didnt buy it, I had 2 big tests, a big paper, and was just stressed. And she was concerned about my BP. I've always had awesome BP, and I am not that over weight. About 15 lbs. and I'll be fine! But she made a big deal out of it. Kinda pissed me off.

Anyway, yeah, I'll let you know.

MY review on Skinny Bitch written by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin.

I read the first chapter in Barnes and Noble to get a feel for what it would be like. It's advertised as a "tough love way to guide you on your weight loss adventure". I liked how the paragraphs were written, things were being told to me like "Stop fucking smoking, it changes the chemicals in your body....." to "If you eat shit you are shit so stop eating crap." to "Water will make you poop, it helps clean out the toxins." Basically raunchy, real, interesting to me.

I got home and read the entire thing last night, I was not expecting the turn they took midway through. They explained that the only way to become a "Skinny Bitch" was to drop all animal products. They went into the cruelty of the animals in the slaughterhouse but mainly spoke about all the growth hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides thrown into our meat and delivered to us without our knowledge. Went into a lot about how the USDA, FDA and another organization are shady and not to be trusted wth some examples. They mentioned that even milk is bad which made me weep a little. According to them we are the only species that drinks milk into our adult lives, that's there's no such thing as non fat milk, milk was created by nature to fatten babies up, to help them grow, adults just get fat off of it. They then claimed that the milk campaigning is done because all large food industries have their foot in the USDA's door. That we shouldn't believe doctors orders either, not because they're trying to get us to buy the meat but because they only go through typically three months of nutritional training and are duped like the rest of us.

They're claim to veganism is led by simple facts, if we were to catch our meat without the use of handmade tools that the gift of intelligence has given us we would be the ones eaten. Our teeth are dull, our nails are worthless, and our speed cannot compare. Our digestive tracts are too long, our saliva isn't acidic enough to break down meat properly, we just aren't made to be carnivores, maybe at one point in our history but since we evolved times have changed. They even go on to mention that fake sweeteners are bad, that fruit has a natural sweetener that doesn't spike our blood glucose levels. They explain how preservatives are used, the downfalls to things like splenda, aspartame, and other additives altered by scientists to increase preservation of a product. That true organic foods are the way to go. They do give alternatives to meat, veggies burgers, tofu for egss, soy milk, and some form of bacon that actually tastes like bacon. They also lists some junk food that has natural sweeteners in it to curb the craving. A chapter that lists all the ingredients you might not know about categorizing them into good ingredients and bad helps when you're out shopping and reading the ingredients. An entire month of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners is laid out for you in what seems like a manageable diet. All their arguements also come with their own unique ways of enjoying food and feeling better about it. They ask you not to count carbs, calories, fat because once you eat the organic natural fruits and vegetables you will feel better, lighter, purer. They're only suggestions are to stop eating when full and make sure to eat plenty of different fruits and vegetables to get the nutrients needed.

It was an interesting read and powerfully eye opening at two in the morning. Some things that made me step back from it were their ideas of fasting. They say it helps cleanse the body from toxins, decaying cells, and a variety of others bad things floating around. During a fast the digestive cells can refocus on cleansing the body instead of breaking down food, accoridng to these gals. Another moment of questioning came when they recommended taking a supplement with Vitamin B-12 since it only exists in meat. My question is why would we need this vitamin if we're not supposed to eat meat and therefore how can we not eat meat if thisvitamin is integral to our health?

Out of 229 facts and references listed in the back of the book nine of them came from Peta.org. One very extreme group that is jsut as bad as those USDA crimes they talked about in the book. I haven't done much research into this novel yet to see what facts should be taken into account and which ones ignored. I also do not know how many of those references are strongly affiliated with Peta but I'm guessing a few. Their ideas on dropping meat that has so many harmful ailments sounds like a good idea. The motivation this novel brought to my attention was to contact my local government and even my Senate representative and discuss the horrible conditions our meat is being processed in. Of course animal cruelty is not ok, I myself do not want to be eating meat that has had several toxins shoved through it's system. Other than that I'm not sure how bad eating meat for you would be, if the meat industy was perfect and fulfilled all the health rules and more set out for them. They claim it's a rotting dead carcass that is putrifying and losing nutrients quickly, that the value of it is little. I'd like to do more research on that before deciding.

So my question is, thoughts, ideas? I know blasphemour is a vegetarian, do you agree with the ideas of these ladies? I think I'll take what I can from this book and apply what I feel is fact into my life, however other ideas are welcome.

haha I researched that book before I decided to buy... I knew it was about dropping animal products and since a ton of what i eat has animal products, I decided it wasn't the book for me.

In any case, good luck w/ it if you decide to go their route, but I suggest you read some reviews about the book that are online.

In other news... If my scale is correct, which I'm not sure it is... I am down 10.5 lbs. If that's true.... only 11 more to go.

Yay!

Yeah I'll definitely be researching this. Towards the end they asked us to ignore all the negative comments people make about vegans/vegetarians, that they come from companies driven by the animal food market.

Seems kinda hypocritical to me!

I agree, there are better ways to lose weight. I guess it's about using your own head and deciding what's best for you not what you've been hand fed to believe.

I think what I'll take form this book is to eat more natural foods, maybe try some organic items. But that's an idea that isn't new, jsut reinforced.
