This is horrible. I'm up in NYC so I wasn't aware of this but one of my friends called me an hour ago. I knew Emily. Not well, but I did. Very sad

Oh and for all those assholes in this thread:

Quote :
"because it is soooooo easy to tell if someone is drunk or not

let me get out my drunk-o-meter before I get into this persons car"

I'm very careful about who I ride with, but yes I've gotten in a car before with someone that was drunk. And I honestly had no idea she was drunk until she'd been driving about 2 miles. I made her turn around and go back to her place, but its not always easy to tell and cut and dry, as MrUniverse has been stating.

RIP Emily

Horrible.

and her friend has to live with that guilt and possibly a vehicular manslaughter conviction.

All you geniuses that blame her for riding with someone who was supposedly drunk need to realize that its kind of hard to tell if someone is drunk or not when you are drunk too. Sometimes they lie and say they aren't, then you find out later they were.

Maybe instead of talking crap about every person that dies some of you assholes could try thinking of how you would feel if that was your daughter, sister, gf, close friend, etc...........every time someone on here dies it becomes clear how really pathetic some of you are.

shut the fuck up no one is blaming duchess how can one expect an inebriated individual to think rationally

the friend shoulders the blame, maybe duchess and the friend together could have made a better overall decision (designate a RELIABLE dd...catch a cab, etc) but the friend has to live with this shit man

Bad choices and decisions were made, resulting in disastrous consequences.

I feel sorry for her, yet, at the same time, I don't. The excuse that she should be excused because she couldn't make great decisions due to intoxication isn't a good one. Legitimate or not, that was just one of the poor decisions that created this whole mess in the first place.

Death is still a sad thing and it's a shame that she had to go so young. We mourn, try not to repeat her mistakes in our own lives, and move on.

Condolences to her loved ones and her family. She will obviously be missed by those who loved and cared about her.

I pray for her and her family. I can only imagine the hard times they are going through.... thats the only speculation I have.

Screw the TWW bullshit. Everyone here could have died just as well, but yet eveyone here thinks they are invincible. I am guilty of this, but at least I try time to time.

^^ i think if i killed my best friend by making the most horribly stupid mistake anyone has ever made, and have to live the rest of my life with that would be punishment enough.

i doubt the courts can do anything that will punish her worse than that.

they should still dole out a harsh penalty, but it will probably pale in comparison for her.

i'm sure it does. but knowing she killed her best friend would be worse than missing out on jobs. like i said, they should punish her harshly, but the guilt will be much worse in magnitude.

Exactly - she should have on her record forever that she killed her friend after driving drunk and had to spend 7 years in jail afterwards.

(I can't believe I'm saying this but) if she was poor and black you know she'd be fucked and would be almost guaranfuckingteed jail time

Very sad, be interesting what the details to the story are

No one is saying the broad driving shouldnt get a huge punishment, what people are saying is she is going to know how wrong it was and she will be very sorry for just killing her friend and have to live with that her whole life, people dont need to rub it in her face and point out how bad it was, SHE KNOWS!

Trust me she doesnt need 45764576 different mothers

She used to sit and chill with us when she was working whether or not she was our waitress.
and we used to go out a lot but that didn't mean anything she knew everyone everywhere there wasn't a bar she would go to that she didn't know 20+ people there.

When i first came to the wolf web this entire place was swinging from emily and joie's nuts.
Every thread they started or even posted in went to 4+ pages.
Its really sad to see her go.

She was one of those people that no matter who you are she would still hang out with you and get to know you.

"Red Light Camera Incident Sends Woman to Hospital
Red light and speed cameras are directly involved in accidents in Texas, North Carolina and the UK.

Red light and speed cameras were directly involved in collisions in Texas, North Carolina and the UK over the past week. In Fayetteville, North Carolina a red light camera struck a woman, sending her to the hospital with critical injuries. Danielle Christina Polumbo, 20, is accused of driving drunk on Bragg Boulevard at 1:40am today. According to WRAL-TV, Polumbo swerved into a red light camera pole, sending the heavy device down onto the vehicle's roof. Emily Elizabeth May, 24, suffered critical injuries from the camera hit and was rushed to Cape Fear Valley Hospital for treatment.

In Longview, Texas, a motorist struck the red light camera on Spur 63 and Marshall Avenue in an incident representing the second time the device has been involved in an accident within weeks. A motorist had backed into the camera while exiting Jucys Hamburgers.

The city of Longview attempted to place concrete barriers around the camera to prevent damage to the malfunctioning ticketing device after it was struck the first time on April 5, but Texas Department of Transportation officials ordered the barriers removed.

"We did ask the city to remove the pillars because (concrete) won't break away safely if a vehicle hits it," a TxDOT official told the Longview News-Journal. "The state cannot allow anything on its rights of way which could cause serious injuries or fatalities."

In the town of Buxton in Derbyshire, UK a speed camera was involved in a collision last week with an imported Ford F-150 pickup truck. The 4700 pound vehicle demolished the £80,000 (US $158,000) ticketing machine, while the driver escaped with minor injuries.

Mark Simlo photographed the scene for the Manchester Evening News.

^^^you know, if its not a red light camera, its a electrical pole, or street light, or traffic light. Its nothing to do with the fact that it was a red light camera.

^i think its because they don't really know whats coming and their body is always relaxed on impact. But if Emily wasn't driving, I'd assume she was intoxicated too? Although not much you can do if something breaks your neck, drunk or sober.

^^yeah, i realize this, except in this case, a broken neck is a broken neck. The fact that it fell on the car is the deciding factor, i'm sure the impact wasn't bad enough to cause injuries if it hadn't fallen off.

You know, I really feel bad for the driver as well.

One terrible decision, and now her friend is deceased.

As people, especially young people, we are so fortunate to often times get second chances to do things over or the ability to learn from a mistake without suffering major consequences. This was one of the unfortunate times when the lesson learned will teach haunt her for the rest of her life.

That really makes me

Why hasn't anything been updated?

Seriously though guys Emily was never stuck up or snotty and if you thought she was you judged her and didn't have the balls to talk to her.

She truly was a good person and a great friend.
A lot of people thought she just wanted attention but i really believe Emily wanted to be friends with everyone.

She probably was driving a convertible, because I don't think a camera can go through a regular car roof. Either that or she has her sunroof open.

I could be wrong about this, but my impression is that red light cameras are closer to the road than light poles, thus increasing the risk that they would be hit. Also, red light cameras have room to be made less lethal when hit, unlike electric poles whose form factor is pretty much impossible to change the way we currently use them; burying the lines might do it though. Not so much for light poles, though. I'm not too familiar with traffic lights that are on poles, although I know they exist.

I'm not one of these people whose being all like "OMG ANOTHER REASON TO GET RID OF RED LIGHT CAMERAS! GODDAMN FASCISTS!"... It was really just an article that I thought would be interesting to post here and perhaps highlight the need to reevaluate placement or installation method. I'm sure that when street signs or electric poles became more prevalent this same issue arose- they've made sure that electric poles are far from the road and signs have been redesigned to do less damage. So why not the red light cameras?

the chick was drunk, she hit the camera, killed her friend, end of story.
had it not been the camera it would have been the telephone pole or mail drop box or any of other various pole-like items that sit next to the road. or she could have run off the road and hit a house or another person or a car or a tree. it doesn't matter what she hit. she was drunk and it was her fault.
