So, thumbing through the Baseball America Prospect Handbook, I see that 6 of our top 20 prospects from 2007 are now in the Rangers system. Hope we find 100 million to re-sign Teixeira!

Yeah, but Schafer definitely wasn't the top prospect last year, I doubt he was even in the top 20. Hampton's contract is up this year, so there's $12.5 mil. There's a team option for 2009, though!

And what's Kotsay's contract? was that just 1 year left too? Like 4 of the Braves top 5 prospects are OF's right, and I think one SS? If they can get rid of Hampton and Kotsay's money, plus Glavine's gotta retire soon... I think there's no reason they couldn't keep Teixeira if they really wanted too, but I would imagine the Yanks and probably Mets are gonna go through the roof. Sucks that they don't have any 1B prospects that are high.. Salty..

Kotsay's contract is up this year too, the A's are paying $5m of his $7m, though. And yeah, the cupboard is pretty bare as far as first baseman in the farm system go. Chipper or McCann could maybe slide over. Lillibridge will definitely be ready next year if not earlier, Escobar would be a good fit at third.

How do you figure? With the money they saved by not resigning Andruw, and Hamptons $15mil coming off, they should be able to offer him $15-20mil a year easily.

I think at least part of Hampton's is still being paid by the Rockies

I would be SHOCKED if he didn't end up a Yankee. They have Giambi (plus a TON more) coming off the books, NEED a first baseman and Hank is already pissed off about not getting Santana... CC Sabathia and Tex will be Yanks... and they'll still lose in the first round.

Honestly, I hope he stays in ATL... I think there is something to be said for competitive balance. No one in the NL completely blows away teams in terms of payroll. The Mets certainly upped it this year but in years past they were equal and even less than some teams (mets were third in NL last year)

I guess the Braves are paying all $15M of Hampton's contract, but are only paying $2M of Kotsay's. Glavine's making $8M this year, and if he comes back I would guess at a reduced rate. They have a lot of young players that are going to need new contracts next year it looks like, Francoeur, McCann, Johnson, Diaz, Escobar, and most of the backups. Plus Chipper will be needing a new contract. I think, if I read all this right and its accurate.

Tex is better than all those guys and is still young. Signing him should be a priority over any of those guys.

Chipper will be priority numero uno, no matter what anyone says because of what he's meant to the Braves organization. Tex should be 2, but both should get a bulk of the money.

Like I said above, we're paying $12.5m of Hampton's salary. Chipper has a 2009 option that vests at 450 PA and McCann is locked up through 2012. Francoeur should be arbitration eligible this offseason, he'll probably get a long term deal in the $3m/year range. KJ and Escobar are still years from being eligible for arbitration and I doubt they'll get anything more than what Francoeur got this season. If Chipper plays the next six months anywhere close to the way he's playing now, he deserves big money. Remember, he restructured his deal when we got Hudson.

I'd like to see Teixeira sign a long term deal and stay. We need power in the middle of the lineup, we need a first baseman, and he's still young. If there's anyone we should go after in the offseason it's him. But there's no way we'll put up the $20m+ he'll get from the Yankees or Mets. There just isn't enough coming off the books.

How do you figure? Andruw was what? 13mil a year, and if we dont resign Glavin, there is another 8 for a total of $21mil. And if Hampton is done after this year, there is another $15mil.

Andruw is already gone. Our payroll is $15m higher this year than it was last year.

It's not that we couldn't scrounge up $20 million for one year: Teixeira isn't signing a one year deal. It'll be 5 or 6 years and at least $100 million. We have never invested in players like that and I don't think it's going to change.

Like I said, I'd love to have the guy back, but not for 20 or 25 million per.

Wait, is ^ MacGyver? An unnatural hatred for Joey Devine, the inability to understand the most simple concepts, retarded GM advice... it's all adding up.

Well...just missing clutch hits here and there. Not to mention Boyer is essentially tossing it up there underhanded.

Why the fuck do you asshats always have to throw Smoltz and Hudson in EVERY SINGLE FUCKING SEREIS you play the Mets? No wonder you blow ass against the rest of the league... your two best pitchers always burn themselves out shutting out the Mets.

Pelfrey, Maine and Figueroa versus Jurrjens, Smoltz and Hudson

Perez was mediocre? Oh...

Some NL ranks

Wins: 15 - t7
ERA: 3.56 - 9
H/9: 7.78 - 3
K/9: 8.85 - 2

Those numbers are better than I remembered. Maybe he'll do even better this year and you guys can make it to the playoffs.

As long as we're talking about league leaders, allow me to fellate Smoltz for a moment:

W: 3 - 4
ERA: .78 - 1
ERA+: 507 - 1
WHIP: .913 - 4
H/9: 5.87 - 5
K/9: 12.13 - 1
K: 31 - 2

We're 2nd, 4th, and 5th in AVG/OBP/SLG, 4th in RS, 3rd in RA, and 2nd in ERA... why the hell are we 10-11?

^ 1-run losses and blowout wins. Don't worry. RS/RA has a way of working itself out over 162 games.

Chipper goes 3-3, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 solo homer and he's batting .442.

And the Mets (and NyM410's BFF Ollie Perez) got rocked by the Nats.
