Running out of the back or side of the end zone is the same as taking a knee. Teams can down kickoffs like that if they want.

no, if the ball starts in your possession inbounds (outside the endzone though) then it would be a safety, but possession by either team wasn't gained until the ball was in the endzone...similarly the same thing as if a kickoff was to go to the endzone

hmmm, I thought the ball could go out the back or the sides, but I didnt think that a player could catch it and then just run out the back of the end zone... if a player catches a punt/int in the end zone and is trying to run it out and get tackled that is a safety, what would keep a player who is trying to run it out and is about to get tackled from just running out of bounds... seems gay to me
