^^^ I don't know. With all the publicity and attention they will probably get a very fair trial. At least as fair as could be. The DA and Orange county politicians don't want to mess up on such a grand stage. That being said, they don't have a prayer.

The report says the damage to her hand was likely a self-defense wound from holding her hand in front of her face when they shot her with a shot gun..... that little detail really brings even more impact to the whole thing, makes you really think how horrible it would be to be in that situation

I would like to point something out here, and I'm aware it's going to sound callous and off-point for me to do so. I'm going to do it anyway, because I would do it in a thread about anyone else being murdered in this fashion. It's interesting to see the number of people who are normally opposed to the death penalty who are suddenly quite in favor of it when an important, pretty white girl from an NC college is the victim.

There are people in this country murdered all the time for the same motives by the same types of people. Most of them probably don't have nearly as much promise as Ms. Carson, but if you think that makes their deaths less deserving of response, then you're an even more bitter, cynical bastard than me.

This isn't a pro-death-penalty rant. This is a pull-your-heads-out-of-your-asses rant, directed at specific individuals who have posted here and no doubt many who haven't. If you think this case represents some special situation in terms of capital punishment then you have failed colossally, both as an educated person and as a citizen -- one who might, God forbid, be called upon to be on a jury some day.

this has nothing to do with a pretty white girl from any college - it is about a what is coming out from news reports that she was a helpless victim - from what I understand she was shot through her hand and persumed she held it to try and shield herself. She had to be scared to know she was about to die. I have a friend who's sister was killed in the same manner - a random senseless crime - they wanted her car. I usually would think living in jail would be better punishment than being able to check out via the death penalty, however there are certain folks that do not deserve to live - even in prison. What, it wasn't enough that one of these SOB's shot her, the other SOB had too as well? Someone here said they were glad they both did and perhaps that's the only good thing that happened, so they both can one day get what they deserve here on earth and later on in hell. And don't forget, it appears that she was at least their 2nd victim/the Duke grad student.
