Alpert meets Locke for the first time in 1954, Locke tells him when he was born, gives him the compass, then Alpert goes to see him when he is born, which fits in perfectly with what we saw last season or whenever that was, then lays out the objects, including the compass, for Locke to pick out.

You guys are throwing out a lot of scenarios about the past and just assuming that they "didn't happen". Why not? The science crew met Albert et. al. in 1954. So?

Locke killed a guy in the past. So? Did you ever see that guy in the future? The guy that Locke killed in 1954 was always killed in 1954 by Locke. There is no paradox.

The only sticky situations are when we know that a particular course of action occured in the future (or in 2004) that the time-travellers specifically try to stop or get in the way of - apparently this cannot happen.

My only reference for the rules of time travel is the BttF trilogy

I guess if you think of it using Faraday's explanation of time as a string, it makes sense. There is only one absolute timeline and that's the one we're seeing from the perspective of the time skippers.

Still confusing, but less so.

I mean, none of it is going to contradict cannon, i just feel that its less compelling of a story and don't really care to know about it. I believe the show writers have a better grasp on controlling the flow of knowledge than whoever does the experience.

I appreciate your upfrontness. Based on the evidence of nosebleeds in all other people, the tentative explanation of it being due to the time shifting, and charlotte stating that her dad was alive when she left the island I think it is safe to say the man killed was either her father nor grandfather.

One thing i took away from that episode was that I don't believe Ben knew the lady was Faraday's mother. He looked rather surprised when Desmond mentioned that fact. Perhaps Ben was merely shocked that Desmond knew that bit of information, however, i suspect it was the former.

I expect next weeks episode to be a good one with a lot of answers. This week's episode was a lot of questions and what seemed to be even more commercials. We saw clips of Jack going to the island so we can assume we'll get to see all of that transpire next week.

doubtful we'll see much of sawyer and company next week since they island has now moved and they should all be safe from further nose bleeds and death.

does anyone think that ben knew it was locke who was supposed to move the island? I liked how Christian stated "when has listening to him ever gotten you anywhere?" and we all know ben's actions are usually intentional.

i thought thats exactly what the christian quote meant. ben knew locke had to move the island and the best way to tell him that was to get him to think he was going to be the leader, the rest would happen naturally. Also i took that as meaning that Ben didn't know that it was faraday's mother.

Perhaps since the wheel was turned, the losties are stuck in a particular place back in time. They HAVE to explain faraday being at the orchid some how.
