So am I missing something, or is it that hard to restrain yourself and just not boo? You guys are acting like you can't control yourself. [OMG, I'm so unhappy... must... make... booing... noises...] The best way, IMO, to show your disappointment is to be silent. Think about it. Whenever you're watching a game (any sport) on TV, what do the commentators say about a quiet stadium/arena/etc.? "Wow, that play took the fans out of this game." It's not necessary to boo. We are all frustrated by our recent play, but booing solves nothing. The coaches know when plays are busted. It's not like they sit around watching tape and think, "Damn, I thought that play went well... but the crowd booed, so I guess it needs to be changed." Give me a break.
It's not about us and how we feel, it's how we get perceived by the public, recruits, the media, etc. If it were a closed-doors, private game, fine. But it's not. The world (potentially) is watching, so show some damn class and pride. That's like if you were to argue with your SO and call them names to show your anger. Behind closed doors, no one is the wiser... but if you behaved that way in public- you are now an asshole that has an anger problem. It's all about perception, people. As fans at a public outing, we represent more than our individual selves. Act like it.
And GUNZZ, your argument is retarded. That would be like not firing and reporting your lying, cheating, embezzling accountant because you can't do any better. Just dumb.

Quote : | "great job state fans. making us look pathetic every year for something different. " |
The athletic teams we field each year take care of this way before the fans ever get their chance. Whether it be the players, coaches, or AD. We suck all all sports.
All the coaches should be pleased that we fill up CF every home game. With our record for the past several years they're lucky to have the turnout they do. I'd expect attendance to fall off. With the teams NCSU fields the only cheering you'll be likely to hear is from the fans of the opposing team that made the trip (like that ECU game in Chuck's last season).
I didn't boo, but it sure is one disappointment after another with State. I've found that my high hopes operate on an ever sliding scale. If we could win 8 games this season, 6 games, 4 games , 2? It's just terrible to have a whole season that is obviously 'shot' on the first day of college football. Next year. Next year. The NCSU mantra.
You get emotionally vested in the team and you find yourself set up for great disappointment in the first game, then you just stop caring because you pretty much know how the rest of the season will play out after the first game. So you watch the rest of the games out of something that can be best described as a passing interest waiting for the reboot that occurs next fall. Sometimes even waiting to see how many losses can be racked up in the secret hope that this will be the year the program sinks as low as it possibly can go, just so there's nowhere to go but up and to maybe motivate more change.
It's nice if you can have hopes of a bowl game after a dismal start like last year, but let's face it. This is NCSU. Hopes are only built up to be crushed and spectacularly so. The precise moment of the embarrassment must occur while hope is at its highest. This is NCSU, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

hey gunzz, when you pick your car up from the shop and it's not fixed do you say 'bless him for trying, i couldn't do any better.'?

i often look at programs like southern cal and wonder if it gets boring dominating football like they do.

I agree with everything else you said... but I'd much rather have us be good at sports on a consistent basis than have our hopes be constantly crushed.9/11/2008 11:19:07 PM |

^^That was more of a facetious statement. It's something I have to convince myself is true so I don't have to go on meds this time of year. 9/12/2008 7:14:40 AM |

They need to start putting football games closer together. All of this waiting time lets me read all these articles about how Russell Wilson "may not suck" and how our offensive line is "starting to block better" and I get filled with such false hope just to get crushed every saturday. 9/12/2008 8:14:00 AM |

thats a little bit different than booing your own schools athletes. if you want to argue, at least compare apples to apples and not oranges.
when you can do that. i will respond. until then. all of you people who booed our team should fucking surrender your tickets9/12/2008 11:31:59 AM |

Yeah, I actually started looking for tickets to the CLemson game this morning, and then I came to my sense and realized it was a long way to drive to see us get beat.
For any of y'all who do want to go down there, tickets are pretty damn cheap. Saw 50 yard line, lower levers for $25 each. Very temping if it weren't 5 hours from me.9/12/2008 11:34:51 AM |

it's pretty similar. i pay for tickets as well as donate to the wolfpack club to watch football, and instead i get this kid who plays like he's not even trying and gets ZERO results. why would i encourage this?
and secondly, i don't personally boo, but if i wanted to, in that situation, i'd be fully justified. qb play has been nothing short of terrible for the past three years.
and just who, exactly, am i going to surrender these tickets to? the only people who'd want them are ecu fans for their one game. people aren't exactly dying to watch nc state play football (or basketball) these days. we still go, and we get through it, but they're not exactly a hot item.9/12/2008 11:56:23 AM |

Looks like NCSU fans aren't the only ones getting called out for booing their team. Here's an email sent out to Auburn students:
Quote : | "Dear Auburn Student, I wanted to remind each of you about the importance of your support for our team and displaying character this weekend when L.S.U. fans and other guests arrive this weekend. First, please join me by agreeing to demonstrate your support for, and not criticism of, our football team. That means no booing! Remember, the team isn't trying to lose the game--the players work hard all spring and during fall camp to be ready to compete in the S.E.C. Let's show our appreciation for their hard work by encouraging them with loads of enthusiasm! Secondly, help me show the world what I get to experience everyday: that Auburn men and women are special, dedicated, loyal, fun loving, bleed orange and blue, are compassionate, and demonstrate good will to others, even our competitors.
ESPN Game Day will be in town this weekend and we need everyone to come out and show them how much we support our team. Let's show Chris Fowler, Kirk Hebstreit, Lee Corso and Desmond Howard true fan support and loyalty for Auburn!
The nation will be watching the next two weeks (ESPN, CBS next week), and lets remember to have a great time, enjoy the weekend's activities, watch our language and behavior, and display class, taste, and character in everything we do. I have every confidence you will.
War Eagle!! Dr. Johnny Green, '85 Office of the Dean of Students Suite 3248 Auburn University Student Center Auburn Univ., AL 36849 Phone: 334-844-1304 greenjr@auburn.edu" |
Apparently their team isn't trying to lose the game, so maybe there is some difference.
