i totally agree with you guys. we've got help now with hanson learning on the job, and heyward should be ML bound within the next year or year and a half. medlen has been better (relative to his SP role) recently... if schafer hits stride and shakes his funk, we could see him being a contributor at a corner OF spot (crossing my fingers here)
although, i will say making trades like the mclouth deal will still prove beneficial. nate is under team control for 4 more years or so, is young and a definite improvement over our current options. similar deals could be made for a corner OF spot and 2b, so long as none of our top guys get moved. 6/16/2009 7:30:02 AM |

McLouth trade was okay assuming last year was not a fluke. He is looking more and more like a Mark Kotsay type player with slightly more power (i.e. great defender, 260 hitter, 15-20 Hrs, 15-20 SBs).
I still hate to lose potential like Gorkys, but he was struggling this year so maybe he was not all that he was hyped up to be afterall.
As for the rest of this season, I would not mind us becoming sellers and moving guys like Lowe, Kawakami, Vazquez, Moylan, Diaz, Frenchy, Garrett, Kelly Johnson for AA or AAA prospects. It has been good this year having some solid SP again, but with no hope for postseason anytime soon, it makes no sense to keep these older pitchers or underperforming hitters especially if we can get something in return.
Being 80-82 or whatever is no better than being 50-112 in the grand scheme of things (except maybe attendance). 6/16/2009 8:50:57 AM |

Looks like you may get your wish. After 3 L's in a row, we are now 4th in the division. The good news, we are better (win percentage) than 10 teams. 6/17/2009 2:08:31 PM |

The Braves have a very difficult stretch of games coming up and are coming off a very easy stretch of games where they have played like shit (Pirates, Baltimore, and the Reds). Once the tough stretch is over, I expect Atlanta to be 7-8 games under 500 and firmly into sell mode. 6/17/2009 3:01:24 PM |

^^^I wouldn't mind getting rid of anybody you listed except Lowe. I like him and I know he's old, but it'd be nice to keep a front-line starter to let the younger guys mature for a year or two. I know we'll still have Hudson, and Jurrjens looks like he'll keep being very good, but I would love just having those 3 and Medlen/Hanson for our starting rotation. I don't know why any teams would give anything up to get our shitty players unless we gave them like... all of them for one decent prospect. 6/17/2009 5:50:32 PM |

I feel like the Braves have always won because of the farm system, but once the players get successful, they are to cheap to pay for them. Worse than that is the trading off good prospects/newer players for a more well-known name who only plays a year or two. I just feel like the Braves are the way they are now because they mortgaged the present for the last couple years, which were shit as well. 6/17/2009 6:39:37 PM |

Honestly the Braves need to throw in the damn towel this year and realize they do not have enough hitting. Plus there are not likely to be any real difference making hitters available this season.
I never thought the trade for Tex was a good idea and I'd hate to see us do something like that again. I wish we would have kept Andrus because he could be our SS or 2B by now and Kelly Johnson could be on the bench where he belongs.
If we do trade some vets, obviously we are not going to get blue chip prospects, but if we can get good AA type guys, then that is fine by me. Or even draft picks. Lately with the emphasis on college players, the stud first rounders are in the league within 1-2 years. Make sure we lock up Jurrjens and McCann long term and let them be the nucleus of a team that is ready to compete in 2011.

there is a sweet deal at a bar here in town for Sunday's game against the Sox.
$50 get you beer, jager, food, at the bar, transportation to/from the game in a shuttle (more drinking), a shirt, and a ticket for the game... not bad 6/24/2009 12:08:46 AM |
