It's pretty common to get real newscasters to play those parts, just because it's an easy way to always get a professional take with wacky lines. The best one I can think of off the top of my head is John Beard on Arrested Development, who was the real Fox anchor in the OC at the time.

People just stopped discussing this show in the 5th season? Finally caught up via Netflix / Hulu.

Jerry is probably my favorite character (but then again, I liked Toby in the Office before he became creepy about that one chick). Chris Traeger's a close 2nd.

The only real negative is Amy Poehler's character is so over-the-top annoying sometimes (though I realize this drives a lot of the plot). Her decision-making and arrogance are just frustrating to watch in some episodes.

But the rest of the cast more than makes up for that.

She's just tactless and selfish.

Whereas Michael Scott was considered "annoying" because he was immature and motivated by trying to serve / entertain those around him (albeit, in wildly misguided ways), Leslie Knope is self-motivated, self-interested, and arrogant about it. She rarely steps out of her own little world. To me she's no better than that antagonistic talk show host, or the town's Morality Watchdog(s).

I just don't identify with that personality, I guess. Or know / associate with anyone who could identify with that kind of personality to the degree that she exemplifies it.

I was getting moderately burnt out (probably from marathoning the whole series ), but the show really has caught fire mid-5th season.

Bachelor(ette) Party episode was pure gold.

The show fell off a bit but I thought it was starting to come back together there toward the end of last season. I hope nbc's new Thursday night lineup doesn't tank the ratings for this show to the point where it gets canceled prematurely.
