Samsonov is the other arguable name that you mentioned, but winning rookie of the year 11 years ago DOES NOT mean that most hockey fans know him. Also many of the goals scored on Ward in the playoffs and during the regular season have as much to do with defensive lapses as they do with goaltending. It's not that I think we aren't talented it's just that we aren't particularly talented compared to the Bruins, Caps, Penguins, etc. Alot of it has to do with media attention, which we all know is tilted towards the big market teams, but you people can't honestly tell me that we are super talented and that everyone outside of NC knows who Corvo, Ruutu and Cullen are. It seems obvious to me that we are playing above our talent level rather than below it, and I don't think that's really debatable unless you are a total homer.

Also there are 119 Division 1 NCAA football teams, who don't trade players, compared with 30 NHL teams who bounce guys around all the time. I mean, any Canes fan who hasn't watched a Bruins game all year knows who Aaron Ward and Mark Recchi are. And even so, I'd say most football fans in ACC country know who Willie Young and Nate Irving are. Hell, the only team in the league where I don't know most of the players in a given season is usually Duke.

We're actually a pretty deep team who can roll all 4 lines. Also when you look a defense we're pretty stacked there too. And goaltending, well I don't even need to go there. I'm not saying we're as good as Boston, but we're damn close. Look at what happen before the seasons ended, everyone was playing at their potential (not beyond) and we just wouldn't lose. Now, if everybody would get back to that potential (Ruutu, Brindy, Samsonov, Cullen, etc.), well then Boston is going to have a really tough time with us. Our talent is easily good enough to stretch them out to 7 games. I truely think this team is as deep as the Cup winning team (which didn't really have 'all-world talent' either, the difference is not everybody brings it every night this year.
