Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Concept

What the Panamera should have looked like to begin with. It has a lovely back end, as opposed to the hideous back on the Panamera. They should just go ahead and release as the next gen Panamera.

lol... yeah it sucks... but they do make more money of exploiting the name then the cars that created it so of course the bean counters are going to do this.

^^ Agreed, but my point is if they HAD to make a car like that, this concept is way better than the production Panamera.

Anyway, loosen up, times are changing. It is a lot more difficult for such niche car companies to exist they have in the past. The only way they can exist comfortably now is if they get absorbed into bigger more pedestrian car companies, or if they expand their product line to appeal to more than just niche buyers. Also, mandatory mileage requirements for the future makes it necessary for them to offer a bigger variety of cars.

Don't be an idiot. Without stuff like this there would be no more 911s.

I can grudgingly accept the Panamera with the rear end restyled to look like the pictures above. The Cayenne is just unforgivable.

Shit, the 911 is family-friendly enough for many families if they're realistic about how much space they need...hell, most families if they have a 2nd car that's a sedan.

So where does the cayenne fall in to this? jk. I'd rock the diesel version if I had blow money. I'd pull my porsche with a porsche so I could race while I race.

At least there's a racing/rally league that the Cayenne can compete in. While most people will utilize it as a street SUV, it has proven itself in the offroad/adventure world.

Think that the new 918 Spyder is overly complex and gayed up with heavy hybrid shit? Well here's the cure:

Quote :
"Porsche 960 could come with quad-turbo flat-eight engine

Getting a bead on the target that is the so-called Porsche 960 is not easy, as the target keeps moving. First labeled the 960, then the 961, and now back to being called the 960, it is Porsche's take on a supercar specifically aimed at Ferrari – the latest report in Automobile says that Porsche's internal moniker for it is "FeFi," which stands for "Ferrari Fighter." Because it is expected to cost as much as the top-tier V12 Ferrari, Porsche wants the engine solution to justify the price tag. That means, according to author Georg Kacher, a 3.9-liter, quad-turbo flat-eight engine with 650 horsepower.

Last summer, the engine was mooted to be a twin-turbo flat six. A few months later, the rumor was that it would use the 4.6-liter V8 from the 918 and have about 570 horsepower. This new mid-engine configuration would be quite the leap, giving the 960 more power than the 918 Spyder (pictured) and 911 GT2 RS, and utilize other tech features like four adjustable camshafts and "a complex multistage intake manifold." In this scenario, power would be run through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

Build materials are still slated to be a hodgepodge of materials including aluminum, steel, carbon fiber, titanium and magnesium. The boosted flat-eight, all-wheel drive and a 3,000-pound weight could get the 960 from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. Since it is looking squarely at Ferrari, the idea that the 960 will be a "four-door coupe" can probably be put to rest. For now. "

I love it, though if the new Ferrari "F70" is going to have around a combined 900hp I'm not sure how this Porsche will keep up.

I don't understand where the 960 will fall in the Porsche range...?

I thought the 918 was going to be 'F70' fighter? It will come with similar power (795 hp) and price (price has been confirmed to be $845,000).

So where does the 960 fit among the GT2 RS and the 918? Yes, the 918 is a plug-in hybrid, and is heavy (3,750 lbs), but its performance (whatever is known) is still amazing and at the very top:

0-60: < 3 sec
top speed: 200+ mph
nurburgring: 7 min 14 sec

Talking of the 918, this is a very good (and long read) read, with all sorts of technical details and driving impressions:

The 960 will be Porsche's top performing supercar, and it will cost less than the 918 by a fair amount. The 918 is their "technological showcase".

And as amazing as you think the 918 is the 2010 Viper ACR is faster than it around the Nurburgring.

RIP manual transmission.

Production version of the 918 finally debuts.

And it also shatters the standard production car world record for lapping the Nurburgring! Quite an achievement considering it is significantly heavier than the recent previous record holder... but yeah 887 hp is no joke.

http://www.worldcarfans.com/113091062745/porsche-918-spyder-rocks-the-nurburgring-in-657---lap

The gauntlet has been thrown. Remains to be seen what the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari can do... IMO they will both break the 918's record, especially the Ferrari should annihilate it handily.

Impressive to get below 7 seconds. Still, the previous record holder is the Viper ACR, which costs about 15% of the 918's cost. Put that way not overly impressive

^ true. but i just want to quote something here:

Quote :
"What really amazes me here is that Porsche has created a car that blows away all others around the Nurburgring...and yet it uses less fuel than a Prius - and that is not a false claim. In the real world of city driving and some highway, in most situations, you will get amazing fuel economy. I still think people are not fully appreciative of this: Porsche has just done something earth shattering."

as for price, first of all, it is a european supercar, not an american or a japanese one.

second, that's how much 800-1,000 hp european supercars cost these days it costs around 50-60% of its direct competitors from Ferrari, McLaren, Pagani, and Koenigsegg, and still returns 78 mpg.

^I have no doubt it's slower around a track than the F70 or P1. Also, after 7-8 minutes of flogging the 918 on the track there's no more juice in the batteries and it mostly becomes dead weight. You can see that by watching the 'Ring video.

And I'd still prefer owning a Carrera GT

I went.

I think the argument that "in a state with the sixth-highest unemployment rate in the country, this opportunity to worship the toys of the rich seems the worst kind of socioeconomic taunting," is pretty ridiculous but agree with basically everything else in the Indy article. It should have been much better curated, and I was really expecting to see more exhibits about design. All it is is just a automotive museum, if you have ever been to any automotive museum it will look familiar.

Its still worth it if you are at all interested in Porsches, but beyond that the Indy piece is accurate.

I have not been, and might not disagree with the way it is presented, as I would be very interested in the deign and backstory on the cars. I was specifically attacking the class warfare aspect of his piece and how cars aren't art, just toys. Meanwhile, much of the greatest art in the world serves no purpose or utility and is patronized almost exclusively by the ultra wealthy. Porsche sells some hyper expensive cars, but also sells cars that can be purchased by the common man. This isn't a exhibit about just super cars that are out of many folks earnings in their entire lifetime. The writer went into more detail about his pretentiousness (not to mention blaming the NCMA for pandering to the conservatives in the NCGA by putting this redneck trash in "our" museum)and detailed how many people would not have gone hungry if the money spent developing these cars went to feeding the homeless and how little he would be paid to write the article trashing the exhibit.since I have not sent he exhibit myself, I obviously cannot comment on the setup of the exhibit, but I think I will still go.
