i'd compare soccer much more to hockey than basketball in terms of play style and strategy - both sports have offsides - it keeps all players in action instead of having an offender/defender camped out near the goal

more boring to play imo. I honestly like lower scoring close games, and I really enjoy the strategy involved in offside traps/beating the offside call. There is a lot of strategy and on-your-toes thinking/playing that is involved in knowing how the other team's defense treats their offside line and conversely there is a lot of teamwork involved amongst defenders in keeping the offside line. One person slacking can cause a goal by keeping someone onside on the other side of the field etc. It also makes timing of passes and runs much more important.
