Question: Last week or the week before... I seem to recall Van Alden talking to his wife on the phone. She said that she had called his apartment building and the landlord told her that he didn't live there anymore. Van Alden seemed kind of surprised and said he was going to look into it but nothing else was said about it. Anyone know what the deal with that was? 11/1/2011 12:18:34 PM |

Van Alden sucks. And I am starting to hate Eli as much as I hated Tara on True Blood.
So... Jimmy immediately regretted calling the hit on Nucky. In the last scene, he walks up to Nucky in the club and whispers, " It doesn't matter if you're wrong or right... you just have to make a decision." Then gets shot 5 seconds later. Shot in the hand. Is this assassin really that bad of a shot? Or was that on purpose? And did the assassin get shot dead? And who was the dude Owen strangled in the pub bathroom? 11/7/2011 2:13:21 PM |

if you're going to assassinate someone, you don't do it in a crowded group of people. any number of things can go wrong. especially if they have a hired gun coming from Chicago, i would think it would have been planned better.
you need to wait until Nucky's entourage isn't surrounding him, and get him when he is most vulnerable.
^^ i don't think he was a bad shot, it's just that he could only get one shot off, and Nucky's hand took the bullet.
sucks to watch an episode, hear them talking about killing Nucky, and sit the whole time wondering how it will fail because you know they won't kill off Nucky, at least not in season 2 with more seasons on the way.] 11/7/2011 2:35:29 PM |

^they've said he's a loosely based character, and they won't let history write the script for the character. Capone, Lucciano, Lansky...they are not loosely based at all, so for example you know Capone will be running Chicago somewhat soon, depending on the show's timeline. 11/7/2011 2:42:58 PM |

Nucky just got hit in the hand, you can tell from the scene where's he's lying there, and all anyone is doing is wrapping up that hand.
I think Jimmy's little scene with Nucky right before the hitman shows up was a subtle way to warn Nucky of what was coming. There's no way Nucky would have been as alert to his surroundings if Jimmy hadn't done what he did. Jimmy cares too much for Nucky to really want him dead.
I'm also a little tired of Margaret. 11/8/2011 7:45:44 AM |

Agreed that the Margaret scenes in Brooklyn were annoying.
I think Lucky and Jimmy's mom have something planned. You could tell the way she was trying to convince Jimmy it was okay to put the hit on Nucky and that he didn't want to disappoint his friends. Since when does she give a shit about them.
I hope Eli dies this season. 11/8/2011 9:16:04 AM |

If Jimmy hadn't come and said something to Nucky, the assassin could have killed him. Nucky was looking at Jimmy as he walked away and as a result was looking right at the assassin when he pulled a gun which gave him a second to try and jump out of the way, so Jimmy definitely saved his life.
I'm not sure why Margaret is considered so hot in this show.
And Jeepin, good note on Jimmy's mother. They have a borderline incestuous relationship and Lucky is just about Jimmy's age. 11/8/2011 10:58:02 AM |

I like how the cold blooded killer, Richard Harrow, is the voice of reason when Eli brings up wacking Nucky as an option.
"You'd kill your own brother???"
And I think there was more to Jimmy's message than a warning of the assassin. What kind of piss poor paid contract killer are you if you can't kill someone with the first shot point blank? 11/8/2011 11:36:24 AM |

I don't think Jimmy was warning Nucky, I think he was pointing Nucky out to the assassin and also blocking Nucky's view. The wince on Jimmy's face when he hears "he's still alive!" as he leaves tells me he wanted Nucky dead. 11/12/2011 7:00:24 AM |

I knew Munya wasn't going to die because they haven't resolved the fact that he wants his $5 (thousand) lafta dollar bucks from Jimmy. Not that that makes another botched assassination any more realistic; it doesn't.
Did anyone notice in the "next week on Boardwalk Empire" thing that...
DON'T LOOK AHEAD IF YOU DIDN'T WATCH THE "NEXT WEEK ON..." FOR LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE
Munya was shooting down at someone/something inside Jimmy's house? Or at least it looked an awful lot like Jimmy's house. Hope that's just Waxey Gordon or one of his chronies, because I don't want Jimmy, Richard, or Jimmy's hot-ass wife to die yet (want more lesbian sex/threesome scenes from her before they off her). 11/21/2011 3:51:41 PM |

^I don't mean to get all nitpicky, but these distinctions are actually really important in Ireland's history: the Real IRA did not actually form until the late 90s. The IRA has undergone many changes throughout Ireland's history; since these guys are fighting against the British in the Irish War of Independence, they would be members of the original IRA. The original IRA eventually became the "anti-Treatyites" (or anti-treaty IRA), which became the provisional IRA (it was in this iteration of the IRA that Bobby Sands' famous hunger strike took place in Northern Ireland), which became the Real IRA in the late 90s.
I might have some of that mixed up somewhere, but I don't think so. I've been reading up on the IRA since seeing the movie Hunger, which is about Bobby Sands.
Still, though, all iterations of the IRA are fucking badass.
Sorry, back to Boardwalk...
^^I was wondering about that as well. Kind of a big hole in the storytelling this season.

Questions:
1) When did Jimmy make fun of Harrow? Harrow was asking him why he would make fun of him if he was his friend but I don't seem to recall that happening?
2) Why did Jimmy throw Doyle off the balcony in the previous episode?
3) Is Jimmy having Waxy kill Horowitz just to eliminate the money/alcohol debt that he owes him? 11/22/2011 8:35:55 AM |

1) I think Harrow was referring to when Jimmy promised him he would meet a nice girl and settle down, which Harrow seemed to take as a patronizing comment.
2) Jimmy has a short temper, and Doyle had it coming although I think his anger was towards the jew butcher guy at that particular time.
3) Jimmy needs to eliminate threats before what happened to nucky happens to him 11/22/2011 8:51:32 AM |

Jimmy seems to be letting the power get to his head pretty damn quickly. Not sure they handled that transition smoothly enough; I would've liked to have seen him start off as a more humble leader as opposed to him being so bratty and unscrupled a leader right off the bat. 11/23/2011 11:20:19 AM |
