yeah, it kind of does. for example, you can probably guess that the al east has been beating the shit out of their crappy teams (their bad teams-namely baltimore-are BAD). the NL east seems pretty evenly matched. to say it "tells nothing" is kind of dickish

Madman All American 3412 Posts user info edit post |
fair enough.
AL EAST = +31 AL CENTRAL = -6 AL WEST = -9 NL EAST = +13 NL CENTRAL = -44 NL WEST = +15
RANKINGS ACCORDING TO DR. MADMAN: 1) AL EAST 2) NL WEST 3) NL EAST 4) AL CENTRAL 5) AL WEST 6) NL CENTRAL
the al east is as good as the nl central is bad. and the nl central is probably more bad than the al east is good. and I know how much I sound like tim mccarver right now

Basically the Yankees and Rays are really good, the ALCS is the World Series, I don't trust the Padres or Giants, most everyone else is average, the AL Central has three really really bad teams, and fuck the Mets 8/3/2010 5:29:27 PM |

I was skeptical of them for awhile too...but after awhile you just have to realize that they are a great team, or at least they are great at winning and have arguably the best pen in the bigs...you can only go off past performance for so long when it comes to current evaulations
I mean, the only team I really have faith in to win it all is the Yankees, but San Diego is legit this year
also dude at Citi in the Twins hat looks kinda like saps

I wouldn't call the Tigers "really really bad"
They are however, a really really bad road team

I'd actually take the Braves to come out of the NL over San Diego
But the Padres are still playing their best ball in probably the last decade, maybe even longer than that
I can't really explain it...their only stud is Adrian Gonzalez...none of their starting pitchers made the AS game...yet they have the best record in the NL...its weird] 8/3/2010 6:00:38 PM |

if stl or cincinatti went on a 6 or 7 game tear they could probably lock up the division. they keep dicking around with each other.

Other than Gonzalez, they have two guys batting over .270, one guy with an OBP over .330 and two guys slugging over .400
Latos is having one of the best seasons in the league and Garland, LeBlanc and Richard are all pitching like #2s. They also haven't had anyone miss a single start.
I want to say they can't keep it up, but who knows. They'll probably win the west, but I don't like them against anyone in a seven game series.

top of the 9th in the phils/marlins game
h. ramirez throwing error leads to man on base, then a single puts men on 1st and 2nd, damn near hr double off the wall, only one score. single to left, another score, tie game. ground ball, ibanez out in a pickle between 3rd and home, in a terrible attempt. werth tries to steal 3rd, nunez turned for the pickoff. dom brown caught stealing on a pitch out.
during this, allegedly the same fan caught two back to back fly balls.
horrid pitching, horrid defense, horrid baserunning, but yet, blown lead.
baseball.

Speaking of the Marlins/Phils call, anyone watch MLB tonight's analysis of it?
Millar and Reynolds were hilarious
and Ernie, Crosley Field may be the direct inspiration, but Fenway had an incline as well
Quote : | "From 1912 to 1933, there was a 10-foot (3.0 m)-high mound that formed an incline in front of the Green Monster, extending from the left-field foul pole to the center field flag pole. This earthwork formed a "terrace", a common feature of ballparks of the day, whose purpose was to make up the difference in grade between street level and field level, as with Cincinnati's Crosley Field. And likewise, to double as a seating area to handle overflow crowds, another common practice of that era.
As a result of the terrace, a left fielder in Fenway Park had to play the territory running uphill. Boston's first star left fielder, Duffy Lewis, mastered the skill so well that the area became known as Duffy's Cliff. In contrast, rotund outfielder Bob Fothergill, known by the indelicate nicknames of "Fats" or "Fatty", reportedly once chased a ball up the terrace, slipped and fell, and literally rolled downhill.
In 1934, Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey arranged to flatten the ground in left field so that Duffy's Cliff no longer existed and became part of the lore of Fenway Park." |
