I didn't do my max benching today (just stamina), since I didn't have a spotter because I went so late. I'm going with a couple friends tomorrow, so I'm loading up on protein to build & recover, and then shoot for a new max tomorrow. I'm mainly gonna spot them though and probably do cardio or arms. I did a little bit of arms today, but after benching, pressing, etc., my arms weren't too inclined to lift dumbbells.

EDIT (I don't include water, because that should be assumed):

Today's diet:
1 double oat and honey bagel
2 bananas
1 Greek yogurt
2 cups of coffee with skim
2 cups of skim milk
1 Nos muscle energy drink
2 protein shakes
2 cans of tuna
1 calorie free Powerade
1 protein bar
- $.99 thing of skinless almonds

...yesterday wasn't so greens-less, but it was still kinda shitty:
4 cups of skim milk
2 cups of coffee with skim
1 sugar free Red Bull (finals)
1 large garden salad with 8 oz. salmon and a wee bit of balsamic
3 ridiculously good homemade bread rolls from an Irish restaurant
1 Greek yogurt
2 bananas
1 double oat and honey bagel
- a small bowl of baked Tostitos scoops with garlic lover's hummus
- half a leftover chicken breast
- black raspberry frozen yogurt
1 protein bar

...I think that's it

sooo today was leg day.

was about to go about my normal routine, when i saw someone i knew and he was about to do squats too, but he told me he did front squats.
i had no clue and asked him to show me.

eeeeek!

i am now switching to front squats and my butt comes within mere inches of the floor!

however i have now gone from squatting 135 to 45 for now
we'll see how this goes...im hoping my butt will be in pain tomorrow!

and also...i'm deadlifting 95 now. new high for me (3 sets of 12)

I realize you're trying to gain, but if you're not giving your body the right materials you're going to end up gaining weight rather than the mass you're actually looking for.

I always felt like front squats took the strain off of my glutes and hams and placed it more on my quads.

If you' really want to make your butt sore, try doing some good mornings or deep box squats.

Today has been a bit of a recovery day for me. Two straight really weird shifts at work jacked up my sleep schedule and my diet a bit. Actually ate out all 3 meals today and didn't go to the gym at all. i think I'm going to go downstairs and grind out an hour on the elliptical machine before bed though.

On the docket for the long weekend. Do math and plan out servings and meals to match up with my lean body mass that I'll detirmine with my shiny new BMI calipers that'll be arriving via Amazon tomorrow. Then taking a look at what type of equipment my apartment gym offers and if its inadequate for the workout routine I've found I suppose I'll have to find a gym.

Other than that...enjoy my last weekend of lard-assery before starting hardcore on the 30th...

i was doing so well with my diet yesterday but then we went out for sushi with my dad and we had appetizers (shrimp and mussels) and then sashimi and rolls, then wine, them my dad thought it was a bright idea to go up to my childhood friend's house because my childhood friend and her brother were home for the week to visit so then it was more wine.

i was smart and ran more. ran to lake johnson, ran around lake johnson, and ran almost completely back before i had a decision to make: either throw up and pass out on the side of avent ferry or start walking. i chose walking.

back to the diet today.

breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs and a large iced coffee from McDonalds
snack is a banana
lunch is leftover pork roast with 3/4 a red potato
snack is 0% greek yogurt
post workout snack is a gluten free protein bar with 1/2 serving of fruit
dinner is ground turkey meatballs and a sweet potato

work out is walking around Lake Johnson. my legs are super sore today and it's supposed to be crazy hot so i figure i'll sweat more naturally due to the 3:30pm heat.

I tested my body fat this morning for the first time since my accident. I'd gone from ~23 in December to 19.9 at the end of January. I thought for sure I was going to be up above 20 again. Nope - 19.5

Lifted this morning, Insanity recovery workout and a hash run tonight.

It's by the same company, but it's more cardio-oriented.

http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/insanity.do?code=BBHOME_CONTROL_INS has brief descriptions of the workouts.

Whatever works for you.

Just remember that usually the most effective workouts tend to be the most boring. The best athletes don't adhere to novelty.

I don't think that's true at all. Are you saying Insanity/P90x/whatever aren't good workouts just because they aren't boring?

^^^ No, that's why I didn't use superlatives.

But there's a reason why personal trainers at gyms have their clients do weird compound exercises like "stand on a bosu ball with one leg while pressing a 5lb weight 20 times" instead of just "squat." It's because the first exercise is interesting and the second one is boring.

The difference is that the second exercise is a lot more effective. The problem is that the personal trainer wants the client to keep coming, so they offer them these weird novelty compound exercises to keep them entertained.

But, like I said, whatever works! If you get buff on the insanity/p90x workouts, more power to you .

-----

^^Well sports are entirely different! I was referring to training, mainly.

Honestly, some of the exercises I like the most are pretty vanilla. Deadlift, goblet squats, leg raises, planks...

^ I find running pretty boring after a certain point. 3 miles is my limit. But I will weight lift til the cows come home

It's been shown in some studies that sports provide a better workout than training, because people tend to push themselves harder in order to achieve the goals.

The high cholesterol is from all the shrimp I had at dinner.

And today I'm already at 226% of my allotted protein.

Okay so I will semi-participate in this thread, since I won't post a picture

GOAL: I need to lose 3 inches off my hips and waist (each) and my goal is to do it in under 8 weeks. Personal goal is to lose another 25 pounds (I've lost 33 since November)

Training up til this point (post accident) - No weight training :-/ Combination of Bikram Yoga, Cycling (trail and spin classes), swimming and running.

Starting tomorrow I'm doing bootcamp three days a week in the mornings, continuing yoga, swimming, cycling and running.

I need to be much better about what I eat. I'm not eating junk, but I know I be eating healthier.

Hopefully tips and what not in here will keep me motivated - especially when my alarm is going off at 5:15am

That is a crazy amount to lose in less than 2 months.... why does it HAVE to be less than 8 weeks? I feel like losing that many inches that fast is unhealthy

Well, I'm doing it so I can get into the military. I'm giving myself a goal of 8 weeks because I don't want to drag it out, at least in terms of pursuing a military track.

I'm not going to be dumb about it (ie not eating enough, over working my body, etc) but I'm hoping to be able to do it.

thanks. and no i don't want to do that at all. i know that if i starve myself or crash diet then i won't have the energy to work out. and i'm already signed up for a 63 mile bike ride at the end of june, a 5k on 4th of july weekend and a triathlon july 11th.

there will be no starvation!
