I never said I'd have a problem doing 100 pushups a day, brah. I was talking about easing in to 100 pull ups a day.
I be more hard pressed to do 100 correct pushups in one set, though.
As it stands currently, after yesterday of actually doing 50 inboard grip and 50 outboard grip pullups, I think I am going to only do 50 weighted today and 100 tomorrow and 50 weighted Thursday and 100 Friday and then rest the weekend.1/18/2011 10:27:45 AM |

You probably haven't gained much muscle if your workouts are mostly cardio and/or if you have been eating at a caloric deficit. Weren't your dietary changes related to finding out you had a gluten intolerance? That would eliminate pasta, bread, etc., yes? I find that the more complex carbs like that I eat, the softer around the edges I get. I have been eating more of those things lately (same calorie range) and definitely feel a lot squishier than I did before. And my pants fit tighter, so inches have gone up too, even though my weight hasn't gone up at all.
I am trying to find the balance between eating them enough to satiate my love for them but not enough to make me look fatter. 1/18/2011 2:48:49 PM |
CassTheSass cupid 35382 Posts user info edit post |
the weight gain was a part of two things - late 2009 it was my gluten intolerance which has been under control for the last year. i went gluten free in late 2009 so nothing would have affected me different in August.
the second part is the pseudo-cushings from birth control which just changed a couple of weeks ago.
i do a lot of cardio but i have introduced weight training about 3 days a week.
and even though i have eliminated flour carbs, pastas, etc, i still occasionally purchase those items gluten free so i am still taking in some carbs.
i'm also still squishy

Finally got the home gym setup complete with the addition of the TV and power tower that finally arrived (1 week snow delay ftl). Having netflix, pandora, and an input for our iPods is definitely a huge help to working out at home; I usually detest cardio because I get so bored. I've actually been getting up 20 minutes earlier to do cardio each morning because it goes by quickly and easily with an episode of something like 30 Rock. Wakes me up too.
On top of that it is so much nicer to save the gas and 15-20 minutes of driving round-trip 3 days a week. Eliminates excuses for not wanting to drive to the gym due to crappy weather or traffic on a specific night too
Now it's time to really start on the goals:
Quote : | "-20 dead hang pullups -Run 3 miles in under 20 mins (I've always hated running but I know I need to get back into it) -Get back to 210lbs x4+ on the flat bench. Not amazingly lofty but I weigh 135lbs atm for reference. I was here last year and really dropped back a lot this past year as my workouts slacked." |
And in general I would just like to get back to how I looked at this same point last year in Costa Rica:
I'm still thin, I've just lost some muscle mass and definition.

Well done two workouts with EA Sports Active 2 with Kinect.
The amount of stats is tremendous with online tracking and interactive graphs, heart rate, calories, exercises, 'distance,' etc. It also counts reps gives you a lot of motivation/instruction with the one on one trainer.
It does have detection issues with floor exercises so it needs a lot of space, and the 'medium' intensity level does a decent job on my cardio, which is my weak point, but it doesn't really push me hard enough in the chest/core muscle groups. It's strong point is definitely cardio and the leg muscle groups. I'm going to try high intensity next workout.
However, it is the only fitness game on Kinect that has any floor exercises (pushups, plank variations, abs/leg work) and truly works every muscle group, with a tremendous variety of exercises and games to track and take you through one on one. 1/18/2011 9:54:21 PM |

1 cup skim milk 1 scoop chocolate protein powder 2-3 tbsp sugar free chocolate fudge instant pudding mix 1 tbsp stevia (i'm sure splenda would work too) 1/8-1/4 peppermint extract idk how much ice i put in. until the blender was half full

I remember when I was a little kid and first learning how to do stuff in the kitchen, and my mom had taught me how to make milkshakes. I had made a few and was feeling pretty good about it, so I decided to be adventurous and try a new recipe of my own making. I wanted to make a mint chocolate chip shake and it didn't really occur to me to question why the mint extract bottle was so small. I just shrugged, then proceeded to pour a third of the bottle into the blender--probably a tablespoon or so--and cranked it up.
I nearly choked on the first sip. It took a few minutes of coughing over the sink before I could even explain to my mom what I had done.1/19/2011 1:52:44 AM |

Also, I am one of the few people I know who basically never uses an elevator in our building. I work on the 7th floor and take the stairs every day. I know it doesn't really count as a workout, but at the same time I think every little bit counts right 1/19/2011 8:59:28 AM |

Hit 110 miles today in the running challenge! So far, workout progress is going well. Back in my skinny jeans (COMFORTABLY) and feeling healthy. Trying to get more definition in my arms, so that will be a goal. It's mostly just a matter of changing my body composition ... prob eating more protein.
My boyfriend is in much better shape than me and we workout together, which really helps with motivation. For curiosity's sake, here are a couple of questions:
1) Do you find that you're healthier/more fit when you're in a relationship or when you're single? 2) If you're in a relationship, how does your relationship affect your fitness/health? 1/19/2011 9:57:29 AM |

^Depends on who you are in a relationship with.
I do know that when I'm single, I definitely am more conscious and maybe just slightly more driven to keep the killer six pack and lean muscle. When I'm dating, I do tend to eat bigger and nicer dinners (go out more, cook good meals at the house more...instead of being single with more sandwich/bowl of cereal lunch and dinners). I also tend to be a little less conscious about how I look because I'm not trying to impress anyone new.
As far as who you're dating...you're dating someone who you can work out with...something I've never done until recently. So the, "hey the weather is nice, let's go for a run", picks up the slack for "not trying to impress anyone." We also ride bikes EVERYWHERE and occasionally kayak in the warmer seasons. So even on non-workout days, we still ride bikes for at least 5 miles around downtown Charleston. Where as my past two girlfriends, one never worked out....EVER. The other's version of working out was to go for a light run/walk at the dog park.
So I think most people have the tendency to slack off a little once they get in a relationship. But that can be combated by dating someone who is also pretty active. 1/19/2011 10:12:44 AM |

1. It's a mix of both. when I was single, I had more time to devote to working out, eating healthy (what i wanted), stocking the fridge with good for me things. But I retain a lot of focus since being in a relationship for the past 17 months because I want to keep looking good for my man. I don't want to let myself go. So I continue to work out 6 days a week and buying healthy food (since I do the grocery shopping) and cooking healthy food (since I do the cooking). also it helps that I only work until 3pm and my boyfriend works until 5-6pm. It gives me those few hours to get in a really good work out, shower, and start dinner before he's even home.
2. I think I pretty much answered that ^. I will say its a lot harder living with my boyfriend and making sure I stay on track with my eating because he's got some super crazy metabolism and can eat anything and it doesn't affect him. So it's easy to be like, "oh let's get Cook Out or Taco Bell or order pizza" but now I try to make a point to have the kitchen stocked and food defrosted so I can cook something up.
We don't work out together - he doesn't work out. Have you seen my boyfriend? He's skinny. Plus, I prefer to work out alone. That's my "me" time where I can think about things and listen to music and not have to worry about someone else.

Amen to that as well. I'll go for a run with the GF...but I've always worked out alone and will probably always do so. Working out alone is very theraputic for me.

Forgot about that too. I don't have a lot of free time as it is...being in a relationship sometimes takes a little bit of that workout time out.1/19/2011 10:27:02 AM |

This is kind of funny to me. I'm the opposite. When I'm single, I tend to care less, bc nobody will see me naked. But in a relationship, I care a bit more and take care of myself more because I know I want to look good in little to no clothing.
^ I prefer working out alone if the person can't keep up with me or will interfere with my workout time. But if they can keep up with me on a run or not cut my workout short, then I enjoy working out with a non-chatty workout bud.

I'm an optimist when I'm single...knowing that at any possible moment, someone would like to have sex with me...and my body needs to be prepared in case that happens.
Plus I live at the beach. Can't let yourself go during bathingsuit weather...which is pretty much 75% of the year down here.1/19/2011 10:33:40 AM |

^^ Just keepin' it real.
Also, I suppose my dad has an influence on that mentality. My mother gained a ton of weight after my folks got married and my dad picks on her a LOT about it. He's pretty mean. I feel bad for her and would NEVER want to find myself in her shoes.
^ Try living in Florida. It's bathing suit weather year-round. Not much room for slacking.
