Dreamers of the Ghetto have a couple of songs posted around online. I dig it, I think they'll make some waves on the XM/88.1 type scene.

Frontier Ruckus does a decent live show. Saw them at the Local 506 months back.

Hopscotch is getting some national press, even being mentioned in the USA Today:
Quote :
"Yesterday, while DJ-ing in the Pop Candy Turntable room, someone asked if I was heading to Hopscotch this year.

I had no idea what she was talking about.

It turns out the Hopscotch Music Festival is a huge reason to head down to Raleigh, N.C., in a few weeks. (And I really should, since I have relatives down there.) The massive Hopscotch lineup includes performances by the Black Lips, J Mascis, Guided by Voices (what?!), Superchunk, Vivian Girls, Toro Y Moi, The Flaming Lips and dozens of other indie bands. If you live nearby, it sounds like a not-to-miss weekend.

Hopscotch runs Sept. 8-10. Tickets are on sale now, starting at a very reasonable $32."

Does this mean that Hopscotch is too mainstream for all of the hipsters?

because a festival headlined by public enemy in its first year surely only caters to hipsters...

^^^^ Okay, the bandy he's been tweeting about non-stop for two weeks. I don't get it, but they're not any worse than Drive-By Truckers.

Yeah I mean last year the camera policy wasn't strict at all, and it probably won't be this year either.

Although I already bought a VIP wristband so I guess I'm going to sell that, I hope photo gets you everywhere VIP does

But seriously, the best I can come up with as to how people like the Drive By Truckers is their satire in lyric. They depict all these tragic (in lack of a better word) scenarios that rednecks are accustomed to, and people around this area can relate to that because of family?

If there's any other reason that people like them, you need to stop hanging out with said people...

I'm a big fan of the Truckers and I think they're a pretty seminal band. The arrangements are well-thought-out, the songs plain rock (it's harder than it sounds to write a good song that plain rocks and, make no mistake, the Truckers make it sound easy), and, most importantly, the storytelling of Mike Cooley and Pat Hood is unrivaled in music currently.

And, no, I don't really think their songs are satirical. Some of them are funny, definitely, but more of them are poignant stories of well-intentioned, good men that are overcome and generally mistreated by institutions that are bigger than they are. Men that are displaced by technological and industrial advancement. Men that are stripped of their sole purpose in life (or worse) by people and entities that they've never even seen. Cooley and Hood have distinct voices as songwriters: they're pissed-off, proud, uneducated yet intelligent southerners who write with a rebellious, populist bent, and I love that about them.

As far as the music, I don't know, you either like their brand of rock and roll or you don't. I personally love unabashed rock and roll that eschews what's currently considered cool in favor of more traditional rock, as long as it's done by talented musicians who are smart about it. In my opinion, the Truckers are definitely talented musicians and they're definitely smart about it.

I would rather see the Tomahawks at Deep South than step foot into a venue that's offering free beer while the Foreign Exchange are playing.

I was just giving settledown shit either way. Pretty sure he understands this is the Internet.

Anyway.

I'm honestly trying to think of a reason to be VIP this year, and really can't think of one. Advertise on CL and see what you get is probably going to be your best bet.
